I might be wrong but I seem to remember some rule that on a red flag, the field is reset based on the end of the previous lap. Which in this case would be the original start position? Can someone let me know if that rule exists?

i think it’s probably correct. hard to say exactly who was where when the red flag was waved. le clerc v hamilton for example.

I think usually the placements before the lap that was red flagged are used

The most unsafe thing about that crash was probably it hitting the fence.. The barrier is there to cushion the blow.. the car just went through it and hit the fence at speed..
