Just asking, is it common practice for resigning MPs resignation letters to be made public? Or is this something co-ordinated?
The last 24 hours reminded me of the thick of it as well. Just the avalanche of resignations to undermine someone, the politics within politics etc. You can imagine them all behind the scenes frantically trying to make sure they come out of it better off.
you have to give it to the conservative party, they are ruthless when it comes situations like this. they didnt give a monkeys about Boris's indiscretions until the it became clear he would lose them the next election, and then bang. All the different factions within the party coming together to boot him out.

this is their problem, the party is more divided than its ever been, it was only boris's boosterism and vote winning that kept it together, the party is an election winning machine, but now that the next GE looks like a lost cause, could see some fundamental splits in the party and civil war, with the ERG and the One-nation and the Remainer elements at each others throats. there isnt a candidate who wouldnt royally upset at least one if not two of those factions. Karma.
How does he begin to fill these positions? You're dredging up some serious dross by that point. Sounds like the newly appointed Chancellor is already turning against him.

Gave that talk radio, or whatever its called now, a listen today. You won't be shocked to hear, they electorate as still phoning in and backing Boris. Talking a lot of shit about how hard the job is and that he "got Brexit done". Unbelievably, he still has a backing out there in the land of Blighty. And worse, Ive heard more than a few bring up Abortion, which was alarming. Could BoJo pull at that thread as a last ditch effort to save his arse?
Personally, I hope he calls an election. Just to try and take the whole party down with him while all this nonsense is still fresh in everyones heads.

After hearing his mother of all car crashes interview this morning on R4 today, him calling for Boris to go is top bants.
They are all shite, that is the issue. You probably have to put Hunt, Sunak and Truss near the top from a Party point of view but it’s despressing.

i think he'd win it too. so not sure. i do know that labour's polling lead would evaporate as soon as proper campaigning began. do think the country needs a ge though.
it's pretty obvious that he'll either resign or call an election. the election option promises greatness. johnson running against a dozen prominent tories in deselection mode. if he doesn't call a ge i would actually prefer him to just hang about and tell the party to get fecked.

i think that's not right in this isolated case. trump lost an election and tried to pretend he didn't. johnson is playing a power game as elected pm against discontented ministers and backbenchers. this is the most sensational case in recent history because it's been coordinated for effect but it's fairly common in british politics if you go back just a few decades. he's basically saying "you won't thatcher me" and daring them to force him into calling an election. pretty entertaining stuff.
Boris is heading for the buffers and seemingly he is willing to take his party with him, his mind set is probably 'I won us the 80 seat majority by getting many people who in a million years would never have voted for the Tories, except for Brexit. So I will leave it to the public to turf me out in a GE, its up to you (Tory Party) to back me or sack me before the public gets to decided'.
The Tory Grandee's are now going to have their mettle tested!
