Westminster Politics

imagine if Labour push for a VONC and the tories, scared of a general election actually dont vote for it and then what. Boris is back! theres no way hes going to slip off quitely into the distance over the summer. its going to be the Boris show and if he burns the toriy party, i think in his head, they deserve it.

Any ideas how I can get my dad to stop reading and instantly believing all the shite written by squakbox? It's pretty annoying. Whenever I go and see him, like right now, he tells about about why Starmer is the devil and must be replaced.

Is there any chance that one of these leadership candidates actually offers Johnson a cabinet position upon reaching No. 10 themselves?

I think you have to go back to Douglas-Home fifty plus years ago for the last time that happened. I think the smart money is on Johnson stepping down as an MP at the next election.

You should always listen to your dad, he knows best...;)

There's a documentary called "The brainwashing of my dad" that might be worth a watch.

That’s the one with the Democrat turned rabid Republican, isn’t it?

I think so, he became obsessed with anti-obama type email subscriptions. She managed to turn him back by subtley exposing him to other news sources, if i remember right.

Politics is at an all time low when someone like Boris resigns and you have the shit that's left to pick from. Some of these wouldn't get a job on the tills at Londis!

Polling amongst conservative members previously seems to suggest Ben Wallace is likely the leading candidate for next PM. I don’t know much about him, anyone have a summary?

We’ve all met the kind of people that think that logical ‘language wins’ make them look smart.

“I said I have decided to do X….. I never said when”

The types that think they’re out-thinking others when really they’re just acting like 12 year olds. “I didn’t steal anything. I was just borrowing it and was going to give it back”.

We have that guy in charge of the country. This guy is going nowhere. He is already being ‘praised’ as a guy that ‘Never knows when he’s beaten’.

It’s all so low rent. He will stay. He will see going past Chamberlain and May in time served as successes. He will tick into the next pension bracket. He will continue to get paid by us all.

He is a shameless cnut and people enable him.

You admire Boris Johnson for defending someone he knew was a sexual predator?
Please don’t take it out of context. I was talking about the overall pattern of defending people in your team. I mentioned the people he defended were worse than him and that’s the scary part. I really don’t understand why you’re twisting my point.

The title by of the fred needs correcting, he hasn’t resigned as PM at all. In fact, knowing the narcissistic incompetent buffoon, he’ll try and stay on as PM even if it means tearing the Tory party apart. And he’ll do this by lying to each & everyone, like he has done all his life.
And all of it is all so predictable..

Odd take.

Personally, I think hes a power hungry compulsive liar who appeared to be both lazy and outrageously incompetent to boot. The most shambolic prime minister I've seen in my lifetime, and a walking disaster many of us saw coming.

He does speak quite well and certainly knows how to play to his base. He's a populist afterall. He stands for nothing I suspect, in reality.

I can't see anything to admire about the man, or any reason he should deserve our sympathy. But each to their own of course.

I only hope they boot him out of #10 sharpish. Being in a position of that much power with nothing to lose doesn't sound like a good combination to me.
Definitely agree he is lazy and a lier. I didn’t mean I admire him. Just that the “trait” of not throwing teammates/colleagues/partners etc under the bus is usually one that’s admired. And he’s done that either out of loyalty, or not caring or naivety etc even when he could have turned on so many and secured his own position and popularity.

My overall point is that there are a lot worse than him who survived simply because he defended them in the past and now they turned on him and they will be back. So it’s not a win for the U.K.

Until I see a poll suggesting major inroads for both LD and Labour I'm remaining sceptical.

The Tories need their votes chipped away at by both parties to really cause an impact. If it's winning back votes from one rather than both, then their messaging is easier. If they're trying to appease two sides of their party, it's harder.

Also, as said previously, Labour/SNP is a non-starter of a coalition without major concessions from the SNP.

That’s the first time I have ever seen Boris Johnson associated with the concept of “loyalty”. Another way of looking at the last 3 years is that he has deliberately appointed and then retained various inadequates at Cabinet or other senior level in order to prevent any potential rivals emerging. To be fair, it has worked (for him, not the country) apart from his underestimation of Sunak’s ambitions.

They’re all inept cnuts. One trustable adult is all we need.

Scotland is done. Gone. I support their bud for independence and it will happen. So offer them a 10 year deal that sees them largely free governing with a referendum at the end that’s fully scoped and understood. Use Brexit as a warning signal.

Bring the Lib Dems in. Offer something that they need in exchange for a committed decade long election pact that abolishes FPTP.

Free market capitalist Tories are toast. Forever.

All bets off after a decade. It needs trust. Trust needs a trustable leader.

Traditional old school Tories are basically Lib Dems in all but name. If we just marginalise the thick racists and gutter press vandals we will drag everyone to a better future.
