60 goals in the last two seasons - leading scorer in Serie A followed by 3rd highest in PL. All for a player 'past his best and in decline' - all because that prime involved getting 50/60 goals per season. He's clearly still good enough to be playing regularly in the PL and CL with goal tallies like that.
I can go along with the new manager, new system, time to think long term points. But the argument he's past it, and only good enough as an impact sub or for lesser leagues is crazy after 60 goals in the last 2 seasons in two of the best leagues in the world.

Either would be quite good additions. Depending on the formation and style ETH wishes to play then he may prefer one to the other. But both have good ability and could perform well at this level if used correctly.

At his age it is a bit dangerous to quote what he has done 2 years ago and in another league. Last season he had 15 non-penalty league goals in 2,500 minutes.
Because there's only about a handful of clubs who could afford it, and who he'd consider moving away from us for, and they're doing very well with their current group, and signings made prior to Ronaldo's decision to leave, so don't need a big wage signing like Ronaldo. Same as they're not currently in the market for other top talent - such as de Jong. Doesn't mean he's not a quality player.
Only Bayern out of those really need a #9 and they don't have a history of signing late 30's players on huge wages. The fact that Ronaldo only wants to move away from us to a certain size club - of very limited numbers - is what's reducing his chances of moving. If it was just 'I'll go anywhere' he'd have no shortage of options. Which is why I disagreed about no one wanting him. It's just none of the handful of CL clubs he'd consider leaving us for.

I’m sure you can cherry pick the numbers you want to paint your hero in a good light. The numbers I prefer are the ones that say 10 of his 18 league goals came in 4 matches, less goals and assists combined than Pukki in 2022, scored 3 goals in 13 games spanning a period of nearly 3 months, and from mid December to mid April scored in just 4 games in all competitions for club and country.
So we're excluding goals scored more than 12 months ago, and excluding penalities. And even by doing that he still scored 15 PL goals last season. Where does that place him on the list of PL scorers last season - excluding everyone else's penalties from the list as well, of course? He's still joint 6th with 15, even if you only take away his penalties but no-one else's.
Least he might get some better delivery from our new signings. Look at that one from Tyrell to Marcus yesterday, also we know Lisandro & Christian can both put in quality balls as well.

It was me countering your „he scored 60 goals in the last two seasons combined“ narrative. He scored a goal every 170 minutes in the league last year while being the focal point of United’s attack. That isn‘t good for neither 500k pw nor 200k pw.

Yes, you can find the data on WhoScored. His goalscoring was inconsistent and patchy beyond belief. Some stat padding at the end of the season when we barely had anything to play for can fool people who are blind but any objective viewer can see he was rubbish.

That's not quite the point, is it? A striker can be 'top scorer' of a poor team with, say, 4 goals. Ronaldo was top scorer in Serie A two seasons ago, and 3rd top scorer in the PL last season. That's not the same as saying he was just 'our' top scorer. A person achieving that clearly isn't bad. He's still good.

Think the stat I saw was that across 12 games of that December to April run you mention he scored 2 non-penalty goals from 40 shots. Along with 10 shots and no goals in our FA cup defeat to Middlesborough.
Given Ronaldo is 37 years old, two seasons was a lifetime ago. And I don’t think it’s very impressive being the top scorer in Serie A. Immobile was the top scorer last season and I don’t think you’d find anyone mentioning him in a conversation about the best attackers in the world. As for the PL, he scored 15 non penalty goals which is hardly an amazing achievement. It was matched by Vardy in far fewer minutes and it was a low scoring season for most forwards anyway, if you go back a year players like Bamford and Calvert-Lewin matched or bettered Ronaldo’s tally of 15 non penalty goals in much worse teams.
Also didn’t have a single shot on target in 2 legs vs Atletico.
