If we have to wait for De Jong, or the "right" player, so be it.
It'd be lunacy just to get a slightly better player in that needs upgrading in a year or so. Like with Darmian etc.
Would be a temp solution as well since we’d most likely go back for FDJ next year. He may be more amenable to coming once he’s seen an improvement and us returning to CL. Not a given of course. Question is whether ETH is willing to work with McFref and the addition of Eriksen and keeping Garner and Hannibal.

They don't want to. Having the cash in your book is better. They either want FdJ to forgo that 17m, or loan them that amount.

Let say you owe the bank 500k in mortgage. What is more affordable between paying off in one go interest free, or you pay them over the years interest or not?
Very basic accounting, when you want your revenue as high as possible regardless how much net positive you end up with. Because higher revenue, cashflow would help future loan. Lowering the fee for them is less attractive than having FdJ loan them the money they owe him.
There will be tax implications which vary from country to country, it’s an absolute mess that will be more prevalent with all the clubs that offered deferred wages to players on 4 or 5 year contracts, there could be a whole new European type bosman.
For example player A is owed €20M by Club B who value him with 2 years on his contract at €40m to Club C who want to buy Player A. European law Rules that Club C must pay €20M to Player A and €15M to Club B due to a fixed €5M penalty payment for overstating their annual accounts by declaring lower wages outgoings than contractually obliged paid to the European Courts and Uefa.
What's that got to do with anything? They want him to go and they owe him the money. They've just signed Raphina and Lewandowski ffs.

They want him to go on certain terms. They owe him money, but they want to restructure the payment rather paying it off. For example, if they can pay this 17mil off in 10 years instalments, it would be straightforward.
They pull those levers to wrap up those key signings, so they can afford to play poker.

The point being it is how the payment is structure can be significant different in business world. Barcelona clearly want to bump that number in the revenue column. That's why they did a fishy deal with Juventus on Pjanic-Arthur deal, which both club registered a high value sale for these players on the book.
Everytime someone comes up with some counter-argument, it just makes it even more baffling as to why United are still chasing after this fecker.
Football reason for us. FdJ is potential transformative signing for our midfield and XI. For the same money involved, there is really no alternative.
Barcelona being a dick, but their financial situation does look like it make this kind of transfer worth it value wise.
Edit: With Martinez and Eriksen signings, we have already had an alternative midfield options, so we can relax. FdJ is just an ultimate midfield for EtH vision for the quoted fee. Now it's poker time to see we blink first.

Based on what? You have zero access to the player or anyone connected, you're making this assumption on your ability to interpret some tweets.
I would be stunned if the club is still pursuing this without an understanding he wants to come.
He obviously can't come out and say it in public. We can't say it in public. It's clear we've spoken to him, most probably at length and on many occasions.
The fact it seems Ten Hag has gone as far as to be prepared to start the season without him being complete is a good indicator that he has some reason for being willing to wait.
Do people think we're waiting to speak to him for the first time or something? There may be complications that mean the deal doesn't get done but I highly doubt that it will be as simple as 'Frenkie doesn't want to go'.

FDJ isn't a bank, he's an employee who has a contract, there would be no need for him to offer a multi billion valued company a 17m loan.
It wouldn't make any sense for him either unless he attaches an applicable interest rate as money today is worth more than money tomorrow and considering inflation is crazy right now, that coupled with Barcas seemingly precarious position and the lack of ability to take on more loans, 10-15% interest wouldn't be crazy to suggest.
So that would be between £51.7m - £72.7m over 30 years (mortgage comparison you made) from a £17m loan - even then FDJ would be stupid to offer a business thats selling off their future revenue for short term gain a loan.
He's on a legal higher ground, he extended enough goodwill to his employer by differing his wages in the first place, and if the law were to get involved he'd have an easy win with the evidence of Barca splashing the cash on new signing.
If you owned a business and had a clear paper trail of buying expensive homes, cars and holidays yet consistently failed to pay your debt you'd be rightfully thrown in jail (well, a normal joe would declare bankruptcy, but Barca obviously wouldn't do that).

The good news is the club seem to be getting the players ETH wants. If we can sign De Jong and maybe a right winger or striker if Ronaldo leaves at least it gives him a decent chance to put together a good team. We still have some players we need to remove from the previous regime but it would be a step in the right direction
Good transfer window so far. De Jong and a right winger will take it to a brilliant one.
