Oh it is definitely crazy but he is talking as if he is someone who performed brilliantly for us and then got treated unfairly.

Also no matter what any manager says, if any player ever thinks they are a guaranteed starter they are a bit thick.

If a manager says to a player that he be starting if he is good enough do manager make a promise? Isn’t it that players think to high of themselfs that are problem? Henderson is nowhere near DeGea and have nothing to complain. It is like you travelIng to Paris as a tourist and complain that Messi is playing and not you.
 
The comments don't reflect particularly well on him. But to look at it with a little more balance, it really does depend on those discussions and exactly what expectation of game time they set. If you're told you'll definitely get matches and then play 3, you will rightfully feel pretty annoyed. But who knows what was said.

He was silly taking his word for it but it's also reasonable enough that he (and others) thought Ole would keep his word. It's poor man management and I think one of the multiple issues Ole created as he'd had have been better off being blunt and decisive with players rather than telling them what they want to hear. Henderson clearly in the more vocal camp which isn't all that unexpected.

I just hope he can do well at Forrest and if the club decides to sell next summer we can get good money for him.

I was defending his comments till I heard this one. If he felt so strongly, why didn't he push for a permanent move? Not sure how we're getting these players who have the accomplishments of a Taibi but attitude of a Schmeichel.

Look this is not a misunderstanding between Henderson and Ole. Many other players said pretty much the same thing. They were promised a fair share of the whip that never happened. The reality is that we had a manager who was clearly out of depth and couldn't handle the pressure of having to manage EPL players. This was quite obvious not only during this case and many other cases of the same ilk (Lingard, Matic, Mata etc) but also when he decided to feck off on a holiday to Norway during one of the worst periods the club have had during the past 30 years. Can you imagine SAF doing that?

He does come across as very arrogant. I have a feeling that he thinks he's far more intelligent and 'deserving' than he actually is. There's certain things you say in the media and certain things you keep private and away from the public eye. From his recent comments, he seems to lack a certain amount of professionalism. You can have grumbles and disappointment with the club, but you don't air everything in public, especially when you are still employed by that club.

The more I think of it, the more I think this side of things matters just as much as what he actually does as a player. I can't recall many cases where De Gea or van der Sar ever went public with comments such as this.

I do find it very odd we gave him a 6 year contract, and at the time when De Gea was having a bad spell and a lot on here wanted him out, and after signing he was still left to sit on the bench (the whole "because he wasn't good enough" doesn't buy because we wouldn't have given him a new contract). There must have been a reason to give him a contract for that long and promises of him being the no. 1 probably were made.

The same can be said for Cavani wanting to leave last summer only to be convinced to stay another year by OGS - only for us to sign Ronaldo and Cavani giving up his shirt. Another broken promise about him leading the lines. Maybe he has the right to stick two fingers up at us, no???

It's not the same.

Henderson lost the his place to his teammate. He was going to be our starting keeper if not for COVID, he got COVID, De Gea started playing well and that's it.
If Henderson was promised a starting spot only for us to sign Neuer at the end of a transfer window and bench Henderson for a bigger name, it would've been an oversight on the manager's side and Henderson would've been right to complain.

De Gea had Real fecking Madrid coming off a CL win ready to make him their no.1 and had it end last minute yet still never once badmouthed the club but Sheffield great Dean Henderson thinks he's big daddy bollocks at Nottingham slating the club paying him £100k a week...

Textbook example of being too big for your breeches

That bit made my jaw drop. Goalkeepers do seem to have big egos, apart from ours who must be the quietest goalie on the planet.
 
The real problem is we haven't had any authoritative figure in the last couple of years to put this kind of entitled pricks to their places and had a smiling & pampering players' mate instead. They needed a good reality check about their level but we didn't have anyone to remind them that.

It's worse when the moaning bitches are actually not good enough & midtable at best quality players like Henderson, Lingard, Lukaku etc. I could understand the frustration if they were actually going to top clubs but if you're supposedly good enough to be in the first team at Manchester United, what are you doing at a club that's recently promoted to the PL? Maybe you're not as good as you think?

We lost the perfect No2 in Romero for nothing & also gave up on some good money we'd have got if we had sold him after that loan period with Sheffield United. But no, give him a new 5 year contract with hefty wages and let the better player leave. Thanks Ole. Yet another awful decision in terms of planning & squad building.

Great example there with De Gea. Actually, that's remarkable that we never heard a peep from after that.

Yeah, I'm leaning more towards letting Henderson go permanently. If this is what he's saying in public, what exactly is he saying in the dressing room, or via WhatsApp, or in team meetings. There's a lot to be said for a harmonious and likeable squad.

Ole probably planned for Henderson to start the season, but keeping his spot was always going to depend on form. Once he got Covid, and de gea did well, there was no way de gea would be dropped. He's a professional and he should know that. He comes out a bitter entitled twat in the interview to be honest.
 
Average GK with an inflated sense of self for no apparent reason. Confidence is a good thing but if this kid watched DeGea last season and thought he deserved his place back he is a lunatic.

Exactly. DDG was off form the season before and was replaced by Henderson, DDG instead came back to pre season to fight for his place.

Remember how Henderson got ahead of DDG in the first place? He had a baby and Henderson came in and was PL keeper end of that campaign.

Henderson got covid, DDG came in and made some fantastic saves.

He just comes across very immature, some of these players need to man up, it is unfortunate he got covid but thats life.
 
He's always come across as a guy with a huge ego but lacking the ability to back it up. Shame we couldn't have sold him this summer. Never once looked like he could be number one here.
 
Surely he would have known that this is the end of his career at United if he said those things. It also makes future clubs wary of hiring such a disruptive influence. He seems an incredibly thick person on the face of it.

If he doesn't like it, hand in a transfer request. But you won't do that, will you Dean, because you want to get a load of money for the next four years?

Person not happy in work as companies manager made promises that he didn’t keep. Person seconded to another company being paid the same contact that was offered to him. Person not happy about what was happening, not too dissimilar to other employees and importantly the customers also knew from the state of the product, the company was a shit show….
 
Really the issue isn't Henderson not getting back into the team when he thought he'd be first choice (because that happens in football) but rather the stupid position we put ourselves in with both goalkeepers in the first place. There was no way some sort of problem wasn't going to arise with both De Gea and Henderson at the club competing with each other for two seasons straight. That was the club's mistake.

But Henderson's not really complaining about that aspect of it. And no wonder, as that dynamic resulted in him getting a far bigger contract from us than he would have anywhere else.

If he wants he can still be pissed off (especially at not getting a loan in January, I think) but he would be better off accepting that he willingly entered into a lucrative competition for the #1 spot and ultimately lost out to someone we know is at best very flawed. The moral of the story should be that he needs work harder and improve, because he clearly isn't as good as he thinks he is.

And rather than mouth off in the media, he should maybe look at the already-existing rumours of him leaking to the media, the incident where he flounced out of training in a huff and the longstanding suggestion that he was perhaps somewhat arrogant and ask whether any of these things contributed to him ultimately not ousting De Gea.
 
The worst thing is Forest now have us bent over in terms of negotiating a fee if he's any good.

If he's shit they'll just send back an unhappy player. Win win.
 
Last year we were still on covid, so that's why we kept him..
De Gea turned it around and looked good, so can't blame anybody...
Why is he bad mouthing? I doubt he will get into United or England lineup now with that interview..
 
just who does he think he is? calling out our clear and abject shitness for the whole world to see. he’s single-handedly undone a decade’s worth of great work by the club and now everyone thinks we’ve been run like dicks for the best part of a generation.

Quite smart when that's clearly what he wants. However, the problem for him is he should've waited to perform this season, as a terrible season at Forrest will see him in the United reserves in 12 months time. OK maybe not so smart then.
 
Just shows why managers didn't play him, United can not have such an immature keeper as first choice.

He won his place into the first 11 the same way he lost it. DDG got a baby and Henderson won his place and lost it by getting COVID.

Accept it, not like he put any performance to say he should be first choice.
 
I'm sure the "promise" was that he was told he was considered the first keeper, then he got sick and DDG played well and got his spot back (didn't he get POTY too?).
Simple as that... I'm not a fan of MIlls or what's his name, but he got it spot on, you can never be guaranteed to keep your spot in football on the highest level.
Got his chance, got sick, lost his spot, end of...

What I see is that this is just another thing you are throwing on Solskjaer. Rangnick didn’t play him either. This is not on any manager. It is on Henderson and his ability. He isn’t as good as DeGea and should accept that. Nobody has been promised to play without being asset on the pitch. If you are good enough and perform you’ll play. No manager tells a player that he is going to play regardless of how he performs.

We can talk about Solskjaer and his coaching ability but lets not make up stuff to make players good and managers bad. We know what kind of players We have / had and I’ happy that some of them are gone. They are best transfers this summer. They have thrown to many managers under the bus with their behaviour, attitude and so on.

Totally understand his point of view. Footballers have short career and it is normal to want to play as first choice GK if you are confident and ambitious enough. Good for him. Although a public interview so early could have been avoided but I guess sometimes you want to get that out of your system.

I understand how he feels and how he has been treated but this is not the way to speak about a club you are still employed in. I feel he has burned a bridge here and won’t play for us again.
 
Would love for ETH to be asked about him and say he doesn’t know who he is.

He’s not that talented to be so brazen.

Its evident that you're not following all my posts on the matter. That's not an issue at all and I'll explain my line of thought here.

I never really bought the hype around Henderson. I think that he was half decent with Sheffield United but that doesn't justify replacing DDG especially when on form. Even if he somehow managed to go toe to toe with DDG then there was club politics to take into account. DDG is a senior player, an EPL winner and the highest paid goalkeeper in the world. It would be very difficult for any manager to put such a goalkeeper on the bench as it would make the very people who gave the Spaniard that salary look silly. Even if Ole was willing to take the risk its up to the player and his agent to analyse the manager and judge whether what he's promising will be achieved. Ole was a cautious manager by nature. He loved experience and hated squad rotation. That's bad news for Hendo. So Henderson was naïve in believing such promises and he was stupid in signing such long contract

However Dean Henderson was NOT the only player who was promised 1st team football which means that what happened with him was not a misunderstanding. Which leads us to Ole.

A- Its stupid to promise players at this level regular first team football. The competition for places is just too high and trophies are won and lost on very far margins. As a treble winner you'll expect Ole of all people to understand that. After all we won the treble because SAF had the balls to pull Yorke and Cole out and put two nearly equal players in thus changing the game. Its easy to judge football now when the dye had been cast but for all we knew back then Ole-Sheringham goals could have lead to a radical change at United and Ole-Sheringham could have ended up our first team strikers. So yes Yorke and Cole had plenty to lose back then.

B- Lying or misleading players lead to toxicity. Players hate being lied to and that's exactly what Ole did.

To conclude I wonder if Hendo is burning bridges because in doing so he expects the club to let him go on free/cheap or/and to subsidize most of his salary. Its becoming quite fashionable for players to shit on our club and get what they want.
 
Just be happy that the dressing room should be much better without the toxic trio of Henderson, Pogba and Lingard. Once we got rid of the biggest toxic of all in Ronaldo, we are good to go for the season.
