No. He might have had a chance but wasn't willing to risk it again. He wanted to give himself the best chance of playing.
 
I don’t get people putting blame on Solskjaer. I guess it is just another thing to blame managers for when we know by now our players and how they behaved last couple of years.

I agree with that. I think Solskjaer is responsible for a lot of the crap that happened in our squad - but not this. He promoted Henderson to number 1, intended to keep him that way, but he got Covid and De Gea was suddenly back in top form.

Most managers would have stuck with De Gea.

Lets agree to disagree then. I think that not talking to the manager is stupid especially considering the long term contract Henderson has got with the club. Outing such a thing with media is even worse. He probably managed to piss both the manager and most of the fans off
 
Terminate his loan and let him rot in the reserves playing no games : P

Hope we sell him after this loan period

Ole was wrong in promising everything to everyone. The players were even more stupid in believing him. Ultimately this hot mess is down to one thing. We had a spine and in some ways we still do that is clearly out of depth.
 
Wouldn't surprise me if he was the leak by the way.

Man is so generic looking he'd blend into the background no problem. He's really missed his true calling as a spy.
 
Probably going to get slaughtered for this but I'm sitting on the fence on this one. I agree, no one should ever take their place for granted but it does sound like the club promised something to him and hence he has the right to feel agrieved.

I do find it very odd we gave him a 6 year contract, and at the time when De Gea was having a bad spell and a lot on here wanted him out, and after signing he was still left to sit on the bench (the whole "because he wasn't good enough" doesn't buy because we wouldn't have given him a new contract). There must have been a reason to give him a contract for that long and promises of him being the no. 1 probably were made.

The same can be said for Cavani wanting to leave last summer only to be convinced to stay another year by OGS - only for us to sign Ronaldo and Cavani giving up his shirt. Another broken promise about him leading the lines. Maybe he has the right to stick two fingers up at us, no???

Perhaps, when you hear about locker room anger etc can be tied back to what many say was a lack of direction in training and tactics on pitch from OGS and the other coaches.

Either way, I agree he shouldn't be slagging off his current employees in public like he has done

Edit: and I'm shocked he didn't want to play in front of ETH and the club should have fined him for that one - just like they should have done for Ronaldo for his 3 week extra holiday
 
Typical of the English players in recent seasons. Most are just nothing but a bunch of untalented, overpaid troublemakers. Best to ship them out and replace them with foreign players.

I'm not bothered about this. If you were told you were going to play first team football and then went on to, pretty much, never play for the next 12 months you would be frustrated and annoyed. If, as seems to be insinuated, he was also not allowed to leave in January to play football, that would just makes things worse. On top of that, there is the regret that he turned down good loans in the summer to play about 2 games over 12 months, instead of gaining experience and developing.

Imagine if you took a training position in a job and then they never gave you the experience you were promised, wouldn't you be annoyed about that and want to move? Of course you would; it only makes sense to do so. I don't think the problem is that he actually didn't end up being first team; I think the issue is that he never actually played or got opportunities this season. That is a complete flip on the position he thought he was going to be in.

In the end, he is a player who clearly does not want to cash in on being a professional bench warmer. He wants to actually play football. And is he really that arrogant? In the end, he took a loan to Nottingham Forrest, who are a newly promoted team. I think that is someone who just wants to play football and is not showing an unrealistic level of belief in themselves. Otherwise, surely he would be expecting bigger clubs to come in for him instead of accepting this one?
 
If Ole promised him the #1 spot, it just confirms how poor his man management actually was. He was basically pandering to all, delaying/not taking the tough decisions and it's no surprise it all came crashing down.
 
All these paragraphs on why he might have a point are lovely and everything but ultimately he should have kept his gob shut, it's not rocket science.
 
Isn't he on 100k/wk also for a "backup" Gk? Just poor management all around.

He was pretty good when he played, imho. I'd give him no. 1 if I were the manager. DDG cowardice just doesn't sit well with me, and he doesn't show any improvement on that.

It's a daft term, which I never really use, but the term 'douche bag' seems quite fitting for this lad. Glad to be rid of him and his ego.

It's mad people think this guy wasn't one of the players who were leaking. The guy is clearly incredibly outspoken and has an axe to grind, is very friendly with the British media and inexplicably seems to get regular PR pieces written about him by those same journos who were delivering the leaked news.

Never take up a career as a detective lads.

These are not bad reasons for being aggrieved. But all the good reasons are completely negated by they way he savages the club that is currently employing him and gave him a 6 year deal!

Which is clearly what he wants, so maybe it is smart to make it untenable to keep him. Remember that we do have a tendency to hold onto players even if they want to leave: Darmian, Rojo, Lingard etc.

The Anglophobia from our online fanbase is xenophobic nonsense, but rife online sadly.

There is no correlation between whether or players are talented or not, or whether they are dicks, and their nationality. Henderson seems like a twat yes, but this doesn't automatically make all the other English players idiots in the same way Ronaldo's conduct bears no reflection on Bruno or Dalot.
 
A mate of mine works at the Lowry hotel and he says Henderson is the biggest twat out of all the United players.
Rude, arrogant and unfriendly.

I think we're almost there now, (maybe 1 or 2 more to show the door to ) but after seeing that interview Henderson is a grade A Numpty. He's obviously not the brightest star in the sky
 
Also "got in the team, did really well".

He wasn't bad when he played but absolutely bang average.

If any keeper we have had in the last few years had the right to grumble it was Romero as he was absolutely brilliant at times but he never said a bad word and if I remember he went out of his way to save us money when he wasn't needed.

Been hearing stuff like this about his character behind the scenes for years tbh, its why I always suspected he was one of the moles in the dressing room these last few years.

All those fluff pieces from journos don't simply come from nowhere...
 
I get why he's frustrated if he was told he'd be number 1 then turned down good opportunities to play.

Going about it this way though is not going to end well for him. He better hope he has a stormer at Forest and they sign him permanently.

Makes all the noise about him being a disturbance and one of the leaks ring true doesn't it? good riddance.

But if it was an important footballer who they care about looks after himself (not necessarily talking about ronaldo, it's always been this way hasn't it) and wants to make choices away from the club he is branded disloyal and a disgrace. Football is just business, in 99.9% of the cases clubs won't bat an eyelid to dismiss footballers who have served their purpose and are not up to it anymore. But when a footballer decides that a club is not up to HIS standards anymore he may not do anything or ELSE...

They do not realize their hypocrisy.
 
Don't really have an issue with anything he's said to be honest. Henderson has always been full of confidence (perhaps overly so) and given how the club would have known this it was ridiculous to have him and De Gea at the club for two seasons. He only had 3 appearances (in all competitions!!) which is a complete waste for everyone involved and I think he should rightfully be aggrieved. He's not a youngster on small wages so the idea of keeping him around just made no sense if we're honest.

Whether he should start ahead of DDG is another issue but I think this is more on use for poor management than him. We could have let him go on loan or permanently towards the end of the 2021 summer transfer window or let him go in January but we kept him both times.

I think the feeling is that he has never done anything of any real value for United and we are still paying him 100k a week. He is smart enough to know that him saying that in public will be negative to United and maybe he should have a little more respect and gratitude.
 
Some people struggling to come to terms with Henderson now not having any future at the club.

Dunno why. Not good enough to displace De Gea. Not even good enough to get in the England squad when playing regularly.

Wasn't long ago many fans were calling for him to be number 1 and saying how much better the defence looks with Henderson behind them. And now suddenly he's crap? People have short memories

Before we gave him that contract it seemed like he was willing to leave in order to play regular football. He got a taste of first team football in 20/21 which was okay for one season but it was always going to be a problem hanging on to him and DDG last season. We haven't got any real value but we've also hardly played him too. Like I said 3 appearances in all competitions last season for a keeper on £100k is absolutely crazy from us. If Chelsea could sell or loan Kepa out, I'm sure they would have jumped at the opportunity. He's had suitors every window but we've turned them down for one reason or another.
