He isn't someone who will play proactive, front-foot football (even though @balaks thinks with more signings he will) but he is a winning manager. He sets up team to win by playing defensively solid and counter attacking football. He has made impact in a good way at every single club he has managed (at least starting from Juventus).

Both appear to be on a downward trajectory to be honest but Simeone in Europe will always be superior to anything Conte did, I think.

A Simeone who has won 2 league titles competing against 2 of the most successful clubs in the world ever. A guy who’s also got his underdog team to 2 champions league finals and lost narrowly on penalties and in extra time against a formidable Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Conte has never even got close to a UCL final.
Jose has won more trophies than Conte yet he’s not world class anymore either.

The idea that he has not improved them is so weird. Mourinho had a point average in the PL of 1,64 ppm. At his best season (the first, because the got gradually worse under him) ha managed 1,71 points per match. In his last season they managed 1,56 PPM.
In other words, Mourinhos range over 38 games equal between 59 and 65 points. In Contes past 41 game they have an average point per game of 2,00. Over a seson that is equal to 76 points. That is a significant improvement of 16 % better than Mourinhos best.
But remember, Spurs declined significantly under Mourinho and continued to do so under Nuno. The side Conte took charge of was battered by Man Utd shortly before OGS was fired.
In other words, the improvement in PPM from Mourinho/Nuno is approx. 30 % in the league. In one year. That is very impressive.

Good decision, some of the comments here are shocking as if they're making up their mind looking at his CL exploits in isolation. Before this one, he's played what 5 season in the CL? with 3 different teams? He's also won consecutive league titles in Italy and his title winning Chelsea side had 93 points and scored 85 league goals.

With that being said, if Spurs win a trophy in this season (and I mean a real trophy, not the 'Top 4 trophy' that even a minority of our fans see as an achievement); Conte will have delivered even if it is ugly.

Surely that's an 'if' you start playing well. Quite a few games this season you've not really deserved to get anything out of them but scraped a win/draw. The mean suggests you will be punished for it eventually. There's nothing really to show you will suddenly start playing better. You might even get worse.

He lasts 18 months when the usual Jose things happen where he falls out with everyone and people are bored of his brand of football, which if you’re not winning regularly, tires very quickly.
I don’t know what happened with the hiring of Nuno but I can assume that Conte’s demands at that time were too big for them, and then when Nuno was found to be way out of his depth, it seems like they gave into his demands.
As a United fan, I was happy we didn’t go for Conte at that time and much preferred ETH who would tear up the bloated, inefficient squad and introduce some proper coaching.
Conte does feel like a last throw of the dice by Levy with this squad to win things, because if he doesn’t work then no-one’s going to work, and replacing the likes of Kane, Son, Lloris etc is an unenviable task for someone down the line.

I think I'd probably agree. Simeone's better at translating his football to the continent but realistically if we wanted a league title then Conte is the man.

That's when the real problems will start at Spurs and Pochettino will come in for a rebuilding job with one of Kane or Son gone.
