Champions League Round of 16 (14th Feb - 15th Mar)

Why do players try and break up fights?

The next time 2 players square up, other players should form a circle around them
Agreed. Especially when we have a chance to see Sule literally turn a man into a scarf

Dortmund hung on. Great result for them. Chelsea looked good but I can't see them scoring two unanswered goals in the next leg. This one might go to penalties.

So so bad in front of goal. Should have kept Abraham.

10 cards in a game that wasn't particularly combative... Spanish refs..

Great game overall, thought the ref really handled it well with allowing physically and therefore not having many stoppages.

Chelsea deserved atleast a goal. Would still favor them in the second leg, Dortmund needed a wonder goal to score while Chelsea missed much better chances.

Terzic's persistence with Modeste is hard to understand. He last scored against Bayern about half a year ago. He's on the slow side, his link-up play is inconsistent to out right bad. Why bring him on and keep Reus on the bench?

Some chelsea player trying to pick a fight with Sule of all people

Looked like Sule having an argument with his lighter

He looks more like a disgruntled factory worker than a l football player at the highest level.

Dortmund won this one but Chelsea can still easily go through I think. There's no away goal rule and they can win at Bridge. Just a question if it goes to the penalties or they can win by 2.

BT sport just cut away from 1 minute of Chelsea CL game to build up to our game tomorrow.
I’d be raging if I were a blue

The Bundesliga Defence Force must be running out of material pretty quickly if they're using current Chelsea as a barometer for how great their league is.

Can't see how Chelsea score, they are in trouble I reckon. Spurs could still overturn the deficit in the return leg

Potter letting enzo attached to defense, the times he could produce with the ball in attacking zones he was dangerous. On the other hand you see Bellingham with free will to move all over the place.

Anyways, Chelsea should've won this game. Were much better in attack but Felix is a missing machine.

I actually see that a lot. And see a lot of good defenses and defense actions in the Bundesliga, too. It is just because the EPL fans often try to emphasize this slogan.

I would say unfortunate not to score once or twice, but we've been underperforming in front of goal for quite a while. Think we were firmly the better side after the first 25-30 or so, and sometimes you get done on the counter. If we play the same way in the return leg we have a decent chance of going through. Dortmund probably won't mind playing on the counter though so it'll be important to find the proper balance.

Was really impressed by Julian Brandt in midfield, late in the game Dortmund lost control a bit and he fell out of the game but for the first 60-70 minutes or so I thought he controlled the midfield really well, especially when under pressure from Chelsea's midfielders.

He was good. I found Dortmund’s ability to play around our mid-high press annoyingly effective. Haller was a great outlet for them all the time and he always had willing midfield runners around him to lay it off to to escape our press. It was stupidly effective in the first half. I felt we dealt with it better in the second half and once Modeste came on, it was rather easy to control.

Yea Modeste has sadly been a disaster for Dortmund. He was ofcourse an emergency signing after Haller's cancer treatment, but he hasn't transitioned at all to Dortmund eventhough having a decent scoring record at Koln.

Haller is looking better as games go buy. Hopefully he can reach his previous form.

Don't we have to bump the thread called "the relative strength of the EPL"? 2 English teams on the brink of elimination despite spending all the money in the world (as a league).

No, that thread only gets bumped when one of the PL teams wins.

Potentially only one could remain when this round is done and over.

Yeah I smell a possible EPL embarrassment this season. It's no use having lots of money to spend, other clubs just skin you for average players. Having less available money means doing more thought out smarter business. I don't see the EPL dominating Europe, at least not like how La Liga was doing it in the 2010s

To soon to say but yeah seems like it.

To be fair la liga had a massive advantage having those two play through their peak for them.

People always point out those 2 but they were completely domineering the Europa League as well with Sevilla and Atletico. The likes of Villareal and Bilbao also reached a final
