F1 2023 Season

What has gone wrong for McLaren for being a consistent podium car to what ever they are now? Seems like a waste of Landon's talent.
Yeah if I were him I'd want them to get their act together or I'd be looking to leave next year. Maybe Red Bull to replace Perez or Mercedes to replace Hamilton if he decides to call it quits.

Their new wind tunnel wont be complete until 2024 season, they are currently using a toyota wind tunnel. Which is fine for non-f1 motor stuff, but not the cutting edge of f1.

This guy is the F1 equivalent of FDJ, god knows what he's doing at Mclaren. Really thought he would have tried to force a move to Mercedes or RBR by now.

Neither team need him. Also he's a good driver but that's about it.

I think we'll see an announcement from Aston Martin that Drugovich will replace Stroll for the first two races after this test.

Landos star has fallen a bit independently of McLaren woes.

Still guaranteed Sergio or Lewis’ seat, just whoever leaves first. He was so mardy last season though you’d worry what he’d be like in a car not built for him if things started going wrong.
Wow, horrible take.

I'd love for you to explain how his 'star has fallen'?

He's been carrying Mclaren over the last 2 years by himself. Double the points of his team mate and being consistent, very little mistakes.

What exactly could he do better? give him a proper car and he's up there with Max/Charles/George.

Norris will most likely take the first spot free out of RBR or Mercedes (Perez/Hamilton)

Although Lando wouldn’t be happy being a number two and so RBR might steer away.

If Mercedes didn’t pick him up though, then you’d have to question if there was something wrong with him.

I watched all of Drive to Survive yesterday, decent season but again missed some key elements of last season. Worth watching between pre-season testing finishing and next weekend.

Surprisingly was the relationship between Steiner and Binotto, they could do their own series off the back of that!

We watched the first two episodes. Will be finishing it up today and tomorrow. That relationship surprised me too!

It’s been a bit more superficial so far. A bit more disjointed than previous seasons. Hopefully it gets a bit better.

Pirelli has developed a new and superior full-wet tyre for F1 that will be introduced at next May's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Last season, drivers were critical of Pirelli's wet weather product, insisting the tyre could not properly cope with extreme weather conditions.

"We need better rain tyres because I think the extremes are just slow and they can’t really carry a lot of water away," declared Red Bull's Max Verstappen after last year's rain-soaked Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

Its a big season for lando, he has to beat piastri in qualifying and in the championship. Should be an interesting watch. Wouldnt suprise me, if lando or piastri (should he be the real deal) end up at Audi.

Do you think? I would say only le clerc, hamilton and Verstappen are clearly faster than he is.
Good/Very good. Top quarter, but as we have seen time and time again, you don't need two of those drivers in the same team. I think Lando is young enough and competitive enough not to settle for 2nd driver status. Which will work against him.

Sorry, didn’t realise his mum was on redcafe.

Looking ever more likely now…

Be interesting to see who buys the team. Andretti would be one of the favourites. However as F1 prefers manufacturers to independent teams maybe Honda or Porsche?

Because I think your post is nonsense, you hide behind a silly insult? ok :wenger: at least back up your nonsense with reason?

I suppose it's hard to rate everybody else wearing orange tinted glasses with super max pumping out

Not seen much of testing to be honest.
But what I have seen, Red Bull and Ferrari are fast, Mercedes is better than last season, with still some rough edges to iron out.
Seen hardly any bouncing around.
Good to see other teams have also improved, could we see a team out of the Top 3 winning races ?

Because you're having a wobbly in response to a very mild opinion.

Lando has had a bit of a drop off since Sainz left. It's just masked because Ricciardo has been so poor.

Landos first season without Carlos was insanely good. 4 podiums, nearly a race win and coming 6th in the championship ahead of Leclerc.

Last year was more of a struggle, but in truth the Mclaren just wasn't that quick.

He still ended up 7th and best of the rest by miles. Nearly triple the points his team mate managed.

Call me his mum all you want - I'm a Mclaren fan and it's frankly a silly opinion. He can't have done much better in those 2 seasons.

I am also a McLaren fan and an even bigger Lando Norris fan and the young man deserves a car with which to make a rea challenge.

I just hope Piastri can force him out of his comfort zone a bit this season.

And then if McLaren cant hold on to the top half of the constructors he has to get himself out of there in the summer.

Be interesting to see who buys the team. Andretti would be one of the favourites. However as F1 prefers manufacturers to independent teams maybe Honda or Porsche?

I think it'll go to someone like Andretti more than a manufacturer. The overheads alone might scare some manufacturer for a midfield team, and Honda/Porsche's ambition will be to go for a top team. I think Honda is likely to go to McLaren. I also cannot see the team moving to the UK either given the knowledge base in Faenza and the value of that expertise.

I said from that post last year that I believe Red Bull are looking to exit F1 entirely (both main and sister teams) as the passing of Mateschitz will herald some changes in approach there, and F1 team values have never been higher. The Ford tie up is a good indication of a potential switch longer term for the main team where they take over the operation and make it a full works team.

I thought mateschitz will/estate ensured "RedBull" could continue to operate in f1 for a while yet. Happy to be corrected if anyone knows thats not correct.

Gonna call it now for next sunday. Max will be on pole with ferrari 0.5 behind and mercedes 0.7-0.9 behind. Alonso AM will split the mercedes pair.

A lot of the running today was pretty pointless in terms of next weekend. The soft tyre will be C3 so all those C4 and C5 times dont mean all that much.

I mean that's just a blanket statement to reassure everyone's future as they put a new management structure in place.

Thinking logically at this there's a cross roads that's coming up for all private owners of F1 teams where they could be sold to interested car manufacturers, we've seen some of that activity already with Audi and Sauber. The value of an F1 team will be no higher than where it'll be between now and 2026, so it would be a realistic time to sell. The Red Bull F1 project has been driven primarily by Helmut Marko, who at 79 isn't going to be around for a long time.

The first steps was that partnership discussion with Porsche, if Red Bull weren't even interested at selling the team then they wouldn't have entertained the discussion. The difference as to why the Ford discussions gathered pace was that they had no interest in putting any of their management team into Red Bull Racing unlike Porsche. Combine this with F1 aiming to move to net zero by 2030, increased growth and awareness in America, and a team that they have intimate understanding of after selling it initially to Red Bull back in 2005, it makes absolute sense for Ford to buy the operation. Red Bull then move to become a sponsor of the team, and they manage to exit and focus on what they specialise at; marketing.

This isn't just a Red Bull only thing at the moment, I expect a Williams partnership/sale to happen soon as Dorilton look to exit.

Just watched the new DTS and it was probably the worst season so far imo, very little in depth stuff and what felt like a lot of filler with in-car footage from races with about 300 instances of various drivers being told to push. I did like the part about Yuki and Gasly's relationship though, and I guess Hamilton's quite brave choice of clothing is always fun to see as well.

I watched the first 2 episodes and gave up. Each episode is about 5 minutes of decent information/interesting behind the scenes conversation and then 35 minutes of irrelevant non sequitor clips and quotes and rehashed exposition.

Watched the first episode it was enough, scripted and just contrived drivel. It's just not fun.

Both Alonso and Lobato (the number 1 spanish F1 journalist and his fanatic) look really optimistic. Aston fighting up there with the top 3. There is a lot of buzz around AM.

Yea it was the same all the way through, it's almost impressive how little substance they managed to get out of it considering the type of access they have.

To me last season from a drama perspective was pretty normal. When you compare it to the year of the controversy with Max's win, Grosjean's accident etc, last season was pretty tame so don't really think they had much to work with. Also I feel the more you get into F1 and the deeper down the rabbit hole you go the less appealing something like dts is as you'd probably be aware of any drama etc during the season.

I agree with that, I just think they could do more with the access they get. Maybe the drivers and teams aren't all that giddy about having even more cameras shoved in their faces all the time but for example when they set up an entire room to do those one-on-one interviews and all they get from an entire season is basically 4 sentences worth of interesting material you have to wonder if they're even bothered.

I'm now a complete expert in how to hold up an access card to the gates that lets people in to the paddock though so I guess those 10 episodes weren't a complete loss.
