Well yeah, I'd obviously prefer Martial, but that is a complete rarity at this point. I actually prefer to have someone working their socks off and linking play well than Martial though.

I am not doubting he can't finish or dribble with the ball, but overall he keeps us higher up the pitch in possession, begins our pressing and effectively presses the whole last third of the pitch. Those are the pre requisites for our next striker should have and are non negotiable in my opinion. No one is saying he's the standard, he's the baseline.

But you have to also take into consideration that this current setup is kind of forced due to the absence of Antony, our starting RW, and there is no reassurance that ETH will continue to play like that when he recovers.

When he is back and fit, Bruno would be again moved centrally and he offers a lot in terms of work rate and covering ground from the position that Weghorst currently occupies.

That's a fair point, but then are we then saying Kane is playing deeper than Bruno to start that press? Kane doesn't really compliment Bruno in that setup in my opinion and just causes more questions than answers.
 
Kane's coaches have been so crap except pochetino that i do think at 29/30 that we can see him improve under ten hag. Even in his weaknesses like pressing because his he has played under 'sit deep managers like" mourinho & conte. He isnt going to press like bruno but we can atleast get him^ pressing like martial under ten hag.

It's the real question and depends on a lot of things, first and foremost where your manager wants to start your press, but Kane used to be very good at high pressing under Pochettino and NES and under Mourinho and Conte he wasn't asked to do much press.

Also, pressing is not always about pure intensity but positioning yourself properly and cut passing lanes for opponents using correct angles and there are many of our players I personally thought wouldn't be able to do a lot of work out of possession but they rediscover themself under current coaching staff. Your concerns are legitimate, but we shall see.

Yes, exactly this is where Martial is surprisingly good. He's not chasing around like a maniac like Bruno, still he's doing his job.
 
All I know is we need the #9 side of Harry Kane, or any other striker, far more than we need the #10.
We need a player who can be in the box, score goals within the box and occupy centre halves in the box. We don’t need a centre forward to drop into midfield to become a creator, we need a centre forward to create for.

Watching Emerson Royal’s goal last night, Kane was miles behind the play, and hadn’t gotten himself anywhere near the box by the time Davies was running through. This is a problem for me, and something I see often, especially with England. I noticed it a lot against the French. I saw Foden and Saka crossing to each other, having gotten in behind their full backs and their #9 hasn’t even arrived in the box yet.

We need a 9. We have a 10 already.
 
I think we will have incredible inverted forwards in Rashford, Garanacho, Sancho, Antony, Amad & the bad guy next season - so that creative CF is important. Kanes only creator has been perisic & its making him look like all he can do is be a slow striker thats only scoring headers. He doesnt need to drop as deep if players like bruno & eriksen are behind him but does at spurs because he is playing up top with Skipp, Hojberg, Bentencur & Bissouma as his main creators.
It was same for england - mount was creating for Kane, not grealish, fodenn cam, or even maddison.
 
I feel like as he gets older and older he will progressively want to drop deeper. He'll have less interest in wanting to tussle with defenders and occupying the box, and more interest in getting the ball to feet to showcase his long range passing. Bit like Wazza in his last few years.

He plays as both the number 9 and 10 for Tottenham, so it isn't really surprising that he plays deeper. It is the same thing for England, also.

The difference between those two sides and Manutd is that we are the only one that actually plays someone in the attacking midfield area. The requirement to drop deeper doesn't exist here, and it didn't when Tottenham had Eriksen.

Yesterday there was a moment in the first half where Rashford did something similar coming from the #9 position and forcing Faes into a mistake, but unfortunately, I can't find it on the net.

He went towards him slowly but from a very clever angle so he practically cut him an option to find Souttar and to switch the focus of play and with that he completely cut out their right side giving Faes limited options and forcing him into a difficult pass he can't execute.

Almost died..... I almost died laughing. Some players just make stupid choices of which club to join. When we look back at history, Kane will be right up there with Alan Shearer. Shearer was possibly the best striker in the history of the Premier League, but he has won less than Danny Welbeck. Kane needs to move soon if he wants to win any silverware. Jude Bellingham is another one who risks throwing away his career if he joins Liverpool. The same goes for the 300 players that have joined Chelsea since the summer.

the only issue with that is, we have wingers like Rashford and Antony, who aren't traditional wingers, in that their aim isn't to get to the byeline and whip in crosses for the number 9. If he isn't getting balls into the box, he's going to drop deep and occupy areas Bruno is in.

People say this but Bruno plays well with Martial someone known for dropping deep too. Our ideal 9 would be someone who is a brilliant link up player because during long spells of possession we tend to penetrate utilizing link up play and movement. This is why our offensive play takes a higher level with Martial starting. Kane would be similar, ideally I would like someone who is also an energetic presser too. Jesus of Arsenal would have been the perfect center forward even though he isn't prolific.
 
Not even close to a trophy yet again. Got a big decision to make in the summer.

Our wingers are no different to anyone else’s. Who plays wingers whose aim is ‘to get to the byeline and whip in crosses?’. Even Burnley don’t anymore. Everytime I watch Weghorst it underlines to me that I don’t want Harry Kane here. He’d finish off the chances Weghorst doesn’t, but there are just too many chances Weghorst doesn’t even get in the first place simply because he can’t. He can’t move quickly enough.
 
Does anyone else here have the fear about him that he has been irreversibly contaminated with Spursitis. He has still a lot to prove to me but probably does deserve the chance to prove himself at a top club.

I think you and I are the minority on here that aren't in love with Weghorst :lol:

But yes regarding Kane I agree, he still produces for Spurs but their entire side is built around him these days which is also why they can be so crap in some games. The biggest issue for me is I never see him look that great for England either. Add in the fact that he's never been a tireless runner/presser, and it's a lot to factor in for paying 100m for a 30 year old. A player like Osimhen doesn't have the same level of technical quality or pedigree, but at the bare minimum is going to get on the end of a ton of chances and press like a maniac off the ball.

It's annoying how thin we are at striker given state of the market in the position too.

levy won't sell to a team in the PL, that much is clear. Unless we offer lots of qatari oil.

Alan Shearer could have won a lot more but he has at the very least lifted the EPL once. Harry Kane has yet to lift any single trophy.
 
What an idiot he will be if signs and extension, at least when shearer went to Newcastle they still looked they could potentially win the fa cup and fight for the league title on the odd occasion, you can't say the same for spurs and with Newcastle and arsenal revival it has become even more unrealistic for spurs to win anything meaningful

Why do people keep saying this? It’s no longer in Levy’s control. Kane is unlikely to be willingly sold off abroad, as I strongly suspect he wants the premier league record. As such, Levy either sells him for decent money to an English team this summer or loses him for nothing next. So long as Kane confirms he wants out, Levy has to sell.

He's only got a year left under contract though - as much as Levy doesn't want to sell him, he risks being the guy that let him leave on a free. He could literally be signing at Real/Bayern on a free in 9 months.

£70m + Maguire this summer.
 
Found it interesting the Spurs AM mentioned how he's played recently with a fever and a knock. I think he'll look a lot fresher when playing for a team with a larger squad that allows him to be managed better.
 
If he is not interested get Napoli’s Striker, I know he will cost more and even their owner is a pain in the ass to deal with, but would rather pay 100m for somebody who is 22/23 years old and can play for another 10 years. Plus he is big and strong lad and pacy, all qualities required to succeed in premier league. Hopefully he turns out to be our Drogba.

I think from a PR point of view, letting him be the villain and leave for free is a better look for Levy than selling him to another Premier League team this summer, unless the offer is ridiculously over the top.

You could also argue it's the better move financially as another season with Kane could be the difference between them getting CL football.

I find it really interesting that even though Bruno starts all of our games, is always giving 100%, assisting, scoring, you still put Eriksen ahead of him in the spine of the team :).
