Keir Starmer Labour Leader

Ultimately they are getting expelled because they refused to accept there was a problem. They aren't being expelled because they are Jewish. Is it a great look? No. But if labour want to be taken seriously on this, they have to kick out the ideologues that deny it, whoever they are.

Perhaps because they didn't see it that way?

You know the party threatened a holocaust survivor with expulsion a few weeks ago because he planned to give a talk at a holocaust memorial event? If you had a slight bit of intellectual curiosity you could see lots of evidence of left-wing Jewish members getting suspended or expelled. You're far more likely to be suspended now in the Labour party for antisemitism if you are Jewish, than those who are not.

Yes, it's not lovely and arguably heavy handed in this instance, and an over reaction but (a) he was in fact a labour member and (b) it was a memorial event organised by a proscribed organisation that labour members aren't supposed to support, at a time when Starmer wants discipline in the ranks because he's about to fight an election. So, you know...

Read a little bit further into the rules for information on readmission. Same chapter but some people may not have got that far.

Because they're all going to marry Polish women and go off to Germany to work - sorry they can't go off to Germany to work.

The absolute cheek of Poland to become a wealthier country than the Uk just because they're in the EU.

They should be grateful for the way we abandoned them to Stalinist terror after World War Two. We didn't have to do that.

Starmer is saying it's shocking that Britain could reach lower levels than the polish. Just standard upper class British exceptionalism
Britain is supposed to be one of the world's economic powerhouses (and were) but he's saying that Polish folks are better off than we are, look how far we have fallen - he's not wrong

Probably because of the loss of the Empire and now being out of the EU and now being alone.

Why the reference to Auf Wiedersehen Pet though?

Have you ever watched it?

Basically in Thatcher's Britain, no work, they went to work on a German building site - it's on ITV Hub - worth watching it's quite funny

Of course I watched it when it was on. Back in those days they could go and work in Germany. If only....
Well you still can, just a lot more complicated than it used to be, I actually re-watched it a couple of months ago, those fellas to today would be the ones who voted for Brexit given the general xenophobia!

Again this is just British exceptionalism. This country doesn't have any right to be one of the worlds economic powerhouses.

A politician can make the argument that the growing poverty and inequality in Britain is bad(Although Starmer doesn't actually care, it just noise)without having to slag off polish people.

For sure. Also they'd be at the back of the queue behind all the EU citizens plus Starmer doesn't like freedom of movement.

If a tory had said this then people wouldn't have a problem calling it out. Everyone knows what Starmer is doing, pretending otherwise seems rather useless.

Smart... speaks to the party's integrity and professionalism whilst also destabilising the Conservative party in the process

Britain doesn't have the right but until recently we were and in theory still are, it's just a comparison on how far we've fallen, not so long ago Poles came to Britain to have opportunites, not so much now

If you were looking at Starmer from outside the UK, without the influence of the media, you would think that he was a weak, nationalistic, xenophobe who supports Brexit and doesn't have a clue what he's doing.
He's the David Moyes of politics. Even if he gets the top job, he won't last long.

It was a nothing comment, and seizing on it is stupid, or intellectually dishonest.

If he was actually good at it that would at least be something in his favour.

I can’t just keep reposting the same post but well

Starmer knows what he is doing, he knows anti polish sentiment is acceptable in Britain. He’s a right winger trying to hit the tories from the right. Its not that difficult to understand.

My opinion of him is based on the seven years that I was aware of his existence (not one comment) - not even convinced he'll get elected. Have no idea what he's supposed to stand for.
If he gets elected it will be by default. RIght now a monkey in a suit with a red tie would be ahead in the polls.

Doesn't even need to have a suit or a red tie TBH, one of the TV tea chimps would do!

There remains a good possibility the Tories will get back. Their new electoral ID law has disenfranchised 5 million people, after all.

Wouldn't supprise me. The tories already rigged the system so that they could get near absolute power with somewhere between 30-40% of the popular vote. Even getting that seems under threat for them now, so the rig the system even further.

To overcome that you'll need to mobilise people to actually go out and vote. If someone needs to apply and pay for a passport or driving licence to go and vote then how many will actually go and do that?

Especially if the thing you're supposed to do it for isn't actually offering you anything different.

But that's just normal isn't it?
You have to do it for a lot of jobs as well.

Voter fraud is pretty much non-existent in the UK. The reality is that the new 'free' voter ID is difficult to get, Councils have not been given the resources to issue them effectively, meaning millions are effectively disenfranchised. It is blatant voter suppression which impacts Labour voters the most.

Many people still do not know voter ID is now mandatory. This law goes much further than anything tried by the Republican Party in the USA.
