I'm always split on this - part of me thinks they could have got £100m for Kane from City last season and reinvested across the squad. I think with or without him they are struggling for CL without addressing their issues in defence but then he is really their only source of goals if Son has a bad period. He's such a good player it seems counter intuitive but I do wonder if they should have sold him.

I actually don't know the answer but let's say you had a Kane-less Spurs and they signed Martinez (£57m) and someone like Madison (hypothetical but I think he'd be less about £50m as also year left on deal) would they be a better team overall? Or maybe a better question is would they finish on more points in a season?

They'd lose a world class source of goals and assists (although i think Madison offsets the assists) but their midfield and defence would be vastly improved with much younger players.
 
The negatives for signing Kane are obvious, does he fit in with Ten Hag's much vaunted pressing style? Does he represent long term value given the likely high transfer fee? How many years can we get out of him before decline sets in? On the other hand one feels he could make a Van Persie type impact in his first season at Utd, also he is a leader and Ten Hag likes his leaders, ultimately, its a difficult situation in many ways given that Osimhen who arguably represents better long term value could be attainable, personally, I've a hunch Utd will go for Kane, and also, wait for it, De Jong, though thats for another thread.

Levy is a stubborn bastard. He will only sell Kane for big bucks to a PL team.

Every time this happens its another nail in the coffin for him. Like ETH and Keane have been saying winning is a habit and some players are born winners.

Casemiro is a winner
Martinez is a winner
Varane is a winner
Bruno is a winner
I dare say even Garnacho is a winner

Kane is not.

He can't make the difference when it counts, and for the sums quoted he needs to.

So, are you saying it is Kane's fault that Tottenham don't win trophies?

I have seen this from some people before and it doesn't make sense e.g. someone earlier in this thread said that they didn't win the league, which shows he is not winner. The guy scored 29 goals in 30 PL games that season; I'm pretty sure he pulled his weight there.

Their team has been crap for years, also. He has been carrying them to top four along with Son, before this season. It has been their inability to consistently keep a strong team; their defence and midfield have been incredibly poor.

Kane would win trophies here, no doubt about it.

Some players elevate their teammates, see the impact some of our players have had since arriving, even mid game like last night. They calm things down and force things to happen. Kane doesn't do that. Against the big teams and in the important games including for England he just plods along as normal.

I'd honestly be thrilled with either Kane or Osimhen, I think they'd both do well. I think Kane might have more longevity than people are worrying about and you're also getting a very creative player who loves to play with runners (Rashford, Garnacho and possibly Bruno would love his passing range). He could easily do a Teddy Sheringham and play until he's 40.

and then bring on Garnacho for Kane with Rash going up top, if the game opens up after 65 minutes:

I don't think we're signing a RW anytime soon. Amad should get the summer to impress and then hopefully give us a similarly nice off the bench option against tired fullbacks type like Garnacho on the other side, though more of a playmaker and less of a wide forward type.

I'd guess we'll sign the following before looking at RW:

2 Strikers,
#8 (I'm counting even just signing Sabitzer here if we can't get De Jong or a star, as he's not permanent and would cost a fee)
DM (we're fecked without Casemiro)
RCB (I expect Maguire to leave for a starting spot somewhere)
Starting GK (even if this is in 1-2 years after a De Gea extension)
Backup GK

so I wouldn't expect us to look at a RW until 2025, and if Antony hasn't come good after 3 seasons, then sure. But I don't think next year is make or break for him or anything, I think Ten Hag loves him and expects he'll start to get some assists once we get a proper #9 in.

Summer 2021 Kane still had 3 years left on his contract. Levy was in a much stronger position to renege on his alleged promise and force Kane to stay. He’s absolutely stuffed if he tries the same this summer - he’s losing a £75 million asset for nothing in Summer 24.

MANCHESTER UNITED believe they will land Harry Kane this summer — if Tottenham finish outside the top four.

Old Trafford chiefs reckon Spurs missing out on a Champions League place will see them lower their £100million asking price.


United have made contact with Kane’s camp through a third party and have been encouraged by the response.

Kane turns 30 in July — and has achieved his ambition of becoming Spurs’ all-time top scorer.

While United were hammered 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday, there is still a belief that Kane has a better chance of finally winning a trophy at Old Trafford than at Tottenham.

The England captain’s £200,000-a-week deal is up at the end of next season and failing to make the Champions League puts suitors in a better position to negotiate a lower fee.


Kane said in January that there had “not been much talking” with Spurs over a new contract but he was “sure there will be conversations over the coming months”.

Champions Manchester City are no longer in the running, having failed to land the striker in 2021.

They have since signed Erling Haaland and the Norwegian has 27 Prem goals in the race for the Golden Boot.

Kane has 18, with United’s Marcus Rashford on 14.


The Red Devils need another goalscorer to drive them on to be title challengers next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo left in November and now his on-loan replacement Wout Weghorst has just one goal from 14 appearances.

Spurs are currently in fourth place but lost 1-0 at Wolves on Saturday — while resurgent Liverpool are just three points behind them with a game in hand.

He will go in the summer whether they make the CL or not. As long as we don’t implode and finish out of the top 4 ourselves, I’d be fairly astonished if he isn’t a Man Utd player next season. It’s a no brainer for United and the chance for Kane to cement his legacy as a true great of the game.

By far and away the best signing we could make this summer. Doubts they he'll be allowed to leave though.
 
If we sign Kane, we're going to have Bruno make those CF runs into the box with Kane dropping back to playmake. It's such a big part of his game now. We need an off the ball runner. Osimhen is him.

And even did firmino and he’s dropped off a cliff. I think his best days could be coming to an end but who knows. Hard to think they are ahead and unless we get rich owners, we should spend that money elsewhere and tell him to wait 12 months and come on a free.
 
I wouldn't be against Kane IF someone could guarantee Osimhen doesn't join Chelsea this summer but fear they sign him

Would much rater find a seriously talented young player on an upward trajectory rather than someone heading into the tail end of their career

Who knows?

He won things in his career, and he left a team much bigger than Spurs in search of trophies so he's more of a winner than Kane.

That said, he happily spent the prime of his career as an also ran, and after he won the league he did drop off a cliff.

He's not on the Roy Keane level but he is well above Kane.

My point is, he didnt win much at all but came to a team of winners and won the league right away. I dont mean Kane will win it first year but its a similar situation, he's not the cause they didnt win anything but coming to United he can upgrade the whole team and lead us to titles just like RVP did. It was one title but he was immense that year, too bad injuries cut his career right after that season.
 
He'll stay at Spurs, he's comfortable in his little bubble. Everyone talks about how many trophies he would have won if he left but for him that's enough and he never actually has to try and do it anywhere.

Van Persie joined an Arsenal side expecting to win things and was a little unfortunate they didn't. His mentality was always different to Kane's, who comes across as happy to be at Spurs regardless.

If Kane was going to cost 24m then I'd happily have him here. For the 100m or so Levy wants I'd expect more than the one good season RVP gave us.

In any case they both won very little, regardless of mentality.
But agree for quoted prices its a no go.
 
Depending on the new owners, might be both Osimhen and Kane.

Harry is a great striker but hes getting on a bit now. we dont want a team of 30 year olds.
 
I find these reports to be a total fabrication by the media. We are out of money. Otherwise we wouldn't have WW playing as an attacking midfielder in our team.

Also, without the certainty of new owners and new found cash-flows, we aren't going after a 100m player this summer. Just take a look at our current finances and it will tell you all you need to know about whether we can afford Kane. The answer is a resounding no. We can't without overleveraging ourselves as risking our long-term future.

Unless we get bought by an owner with a fat pocket, let's forget about marquee signings.

These two want to be no1 strikers. Not rotation or something. And both play only on no9 position. So it is not even about money. You think that either of them would come in any club with promise "you will rotate with some other dude".

They can’t play every game in 4 comps. We used to have 4 quality strikers for the same workload. City have cleaned up for a decade and rotated on another level. Someone like Kane certainly couldn’t manage it.

Almost everyone would suggest they wouldn't. They're two of the best strikers in Europe, nobody is signing both for the massive money they would cost to have them compete for minutes with each other.
 
Need to move away from this. What is it with us signing strikers that are 30 or above. Need one that we can have for years. Go for the Napoli striker… that’s a no brainer.
