Harry Kane | Bayern Munich player

He'd be a perfect signing and I also reckon it'd be a great move for him. He doesn't really have any other team to go to in Premier League and although Bayern links are flattering, I'm sure he'd rather win Premier League or at least have a shot at it before the end of his career. There'll be always time and opportunity for him to go abroad in 3-4 years whereas his game is probably not going to last more than that in England alone, at least in his current role (I do expect him to continue being a good impact player even at 35-36, just not a focal point of the team). Tottenham are also going nowhere with their current team and should probably recognize that sooner rather than later.

The issue is Levy. He perceives United to be their arch rivals, and thinks of Spurs as a title contender in fierce rivalry with us. I don't see him accepting anything short of PL transfer record.
 
He's only got a year left, if Utd ask to speak with him and Spurs reject the request.

Could Harry use the Webster ruling and leave for nothing or close to nothing?

Basically after 3 years either side can unilaterally walk away from the contract. Andy Webster used it to get out if Hearts. But, he spent years out injured after, so karma got him good in the end.

Now it gets messy with compensation or whatever and I don't think many players have ever used it. But the football courts would decide what the compensation would be, it could be just his final years wages.

Kane could at least threaten it to force Levy's hand if he really wanted to leave.

Think Kane wouldn’t play at the tempo Ten Hag currently wants.

At the same time I don’t think anyone else will offer the hold up play Kane can either.

Well after the " gentleman's agreement" you'd think he'd like to get one over on Levy.

I think he'll leave in the summer for 70-80m, it'll either be to Utd Bayern or Real.

No club would ever buy a player using the Webster Ruling, it's like a non-written rule or understanding between clubs.
 



This is why I think we won't go for Kane. Pricking around on the 31st August looking for a striker and trying to deal with Levy would be a nightmare.

Whoever our new striker needs to be with us in preseason. Or at the very latest available for the first PL game.

Knowing he can walk for free in a little over 12 months I can’t see much point wasting energy with Spurs and Levy.

We should come up with a reasonable number circa 40/50M and issue an early (now) first and final bid with a deadline against it.

I can't see Daniel Levy selling Kane for 40 million quid. I think it'll become a point of pride for him. So if that's our idea I think we can as good as move on. Selling his star man to what he would see as a domestic rival for such mediocre sums, I don't really see that happening.

The options I see being on the table are selling for 80mill+. Keeping him for a year, especially if they get Poch back he may harbour hopes of convincing Harry to sign on at some point next season. Or selling him abroad for a mediocre fee but at least he doesn't suffer the ignominy of 40 million Harry Kane rocking up in a United shirt.

Bottom line is Harry Kane isn't going to be the cheap option for us. Fee plus wages will be extortionate, particularly for a player in the final year.

That would be a very quick no from Levy but good luck.
 
I can't see him leaving the Premier League, and the reason I say that is the following:

Premier League all-time highest goal scorers:
1. Alan Shearer: 260 goals
2. Wayne Rooney: 208 goals
3. Harry Kane: 203 goals

He's currently 58 goals away from overtaking Shearer, there is no way Kane walks away from that challenge, i.e. he will remain in the Premier League.

We know what Daniel Levy is like to deal with - just look back to the Berbatov deal (long drawn out process right to the end of the transfer deadline).
The ideal scenario would be that we sign Osimhen this Summer, and get Kane on a free transfer at the end of next season.

I agree. I can’t see a scenario where we sign him for a sensible amount. But, there are so many variables. If Kane’s determined to join us, then he can refuse 40M transfer elsewhere and it leaves Levy in a particularly tough situation.

we have zero concept what really happens with the transfer game. I could see City (given he’s destined to end up there) viewing Kane as a Haaand replacement in 12 months. Get him for free at the same time as making a few quid on Erling. There’ll be plenty of gaming and posturing this summer I’m sure

Why does this leave Levy in a tough situation? He has absolutely no desire to sell Kane for a penny less than he thinks he is worth. If that means Kane leaves next summer for free then so be it.

I think Levy would accept 80 million. How has this 'backfired' on Levy exactly? We still have Kane in the team and he is on track to have one of his best goal scoring seasons for us. I hate Levy but even I can acknowledge he has played the Kane situation beautifully to the benefit of the club.

If Kane is our first choice (I’d probably prefer Osimhen) we should give Spurs a “take it or leave it “ offer at the start of the transfer window, or even before, with the proviso that if they accept, the deal gets done in a week. This offer should be a “Best and Final Offer” of whatever we think he’s worth, the max we’re willing to pay, say £120m. If they refuse the offer then forget Kane and move on to other targets.

If we sign him this Summer it will be for a record fee. £120m most likely and initial asking price from Levy to be at £170m or so. If we let it go until final days and he has no choice, he will sell for £110m to £120m.

If he goes to Bayern or Real it's probably £40m or so.

Very much doubt he accepts anything that is below British record which I think is still Grealish at £100m. And he won't start below £150m to £170m. It is Levy we are talking about.

It's not a tough situation though if you believe having Harry Kane in your team is more beneficial than receiving 80 million. To Spurs Kane is absolutely priceless and if he stays next season and helps the club get into the champions league then he will have brought in close to that for the club anyway.

You could well be right - as you say if Grealish is a 100 million player then Kane, even with a short contract is worth a lot more (or at least it could be argued) especially since top strikers are a very rare commodity in world football. I don't think Levy has any intention of selling Kane in the summer (though he would if he thought the price was right).
 
Don't underestimate that Levy will fancy signing Kane up for life, the options are not just selling Kane or Kane leaves for free. Even if Kane says he's done, Levy will be thinking he's not. And why not? Harry signed a massive contract once, why not again? He'll be thinking that if he gets the ball rolling with Poch that Harry likes, plays more positive football next year, the whole feeling might change and there's a bit of a hope he'll convince him.

It's the weird and wonderful world of football, things can change in a week nevermind months. I could see Kane going from adamant he'll leave this summer, to Levy playing hard ball, to him signing on the dotted line as he realises he'll be one year older and one year less appealing to other clubs and there's a huge five year deal on the table from Tottenham. Then he can sell it he was a one club man, five years is a long time to forget he desperately wanted to leave.

Yeah I just hope we don't waste time if this is looking unlikely early in the window. Personally I think there's a good chance Levy wouldn't even accept £200m from United.

Levy has cut off the richest league in the world from Spurs in terms of fees you can get from sales. You can’t do an Arsenal picking up quality players from bloated EPL squads sue to Levy causing frictions in every attempted negotiation.
look at Kane. He won’t leave the EPL without the record so odds are you’ll lose him for nothing. Then there’s the attractiveness of the EPL. More players will want to leave these big clubs but not move abroad because the EPL is where it’s at.
Richarlison for 60m is the proof of all this. You have to overpay for lower teams star players since that’s the only way you get EPL experience. Plus getting deals for players who have clubs wanting to sell and for a reasonable price on top of that.
another example would be Spurs signing two quality players from Juves bench. Imagine not pissing off every top English club so you could do that in England.
 
We all know Levy is a tough negotiator (aka a tw*t) but if we were to offer say £50million early in the window with a take it or leave it approach and he says no, he really is a moron, given what Kane has given that club (assuming he wants the move) and he'd leave for nothing in 12 months. In addition moving him early in the window would allow Spurs to get someone else in.

All that being said Levy doesn't work on common sense so fully expect to see Kane leave for free next summer where hopefully we'll be at the front of the queue for him to partner Osi!

£40/50 million is fair. If Spurs don't accept we can get him for free a year later.

Ok well let's say we get 100 million for Kane in the summer. How do we replace him? You won't get as good a player as Kane even if you spent the full 100 million quid you got for his sale (at least not one that would want to play for Spurs). Does it not make more sense to keep Kane at the club for as long as possible even if you don't get money for him if he leaves the following summer? Surely that benefits the club a lot more than one big pay out for an irreplaceable player. He almost guarantees 30 goals/assists every season. The chances of being able to bring in a player capable of achieving a similar level is very slim even if we got a big fee for Kane.

Levy has no ability to sell Kane abroad if Kane isn’t interested. Levy’s choice is going to be selling Kane to a domestic rival for £60m or so this summer OR suffering the complete humility of losing him for free to a domestic rival the following summer.

It is Levy. Also with keeping him for a year, you have another 12 months to convince him to stay - and it's not unthinkable he will if United sign a different striker in the meantime and he's short on options where to go.
 
City was the move a few summers ago, the options Kane has this summer are not as guaranteed to win trophies...so if I was him I'd see out the last year on his contract and pick up a massive payday as a free agent.

If Kane wanted to stay he would have signed a new contract by now. He will have plenty of options on a free next summer, who wouldn't want to sign him?

Spurs are a team that need major surgery. Keeping him fir an extra 12 months out of stubbornness would be a brain dead act by Levy.

He is too nice a person to shaft Spurs out of £60-£70m. He will come to a deal with Levy to go this summer.
