Champions League Round of 16 (14th Feb - 15th Mar)

Is that Madrid's strongest XI?

No, Modric and Kroos together no longer works. But Ancelotti would field their corpses if he could. Modric, Cama/Tchou and Valverde midfield would be much better. Sadly we don’t have anyone for the RW position.

They'll get over run by those pressing machines Milner and Fabinho.

They may not be the instigators in all of this. They arrived into Naples as they already had their flights & accommodations booked, and everything was peaceful until the Napoli ultras arrived into the city centre to get involved. The violence only erupted once the Napoli ultras started throwing flares, fireworks, and other such things at the Frankfurt + Atalanta ultras and the police in between.

At some point "they started it" doesn't fly anymore and this seems way past it. But the whole thing looks like a farce. I've read that there are 6500 Frankfurt fans in the city. The only thing the ban accomplished was that they scared away the 100% peaceful fans and dared the ones with aggressive potential in them and like-minded groups from friendly clubs to show up in numbers.
The police reponse looks like a failed state, too. Especially considering they were expecting this.

If a club/city can't vouch for the safety of fans, then the answer can't be to ban away fans, you either play the game behind closed doors or at a place where there is a functioning police force.

Oh yes, apart from Alaba and Mendy missing and the Kroos and Modric at the same time debate, this is the strongest XI :D

I may laugh but there’s a small chance Liverpools attack overwhelms that defence if everybody is firing

It's stil pretty spectacular how these freaks have blown away any of the goodwill and sympathy they've garnered before. I guess there won't be any further away adventures for quite some time.

Yes, it's a pity. It seemed like Frankfurt may have been able to built themselves up into a top 4 challenger / regular, but these scenes completely take away their appeal to potential new fans.

Liverpool are going to win 4-0 and win the Champions League

Calling it now

Please be fecking wrong....

Jeez, living with that kind of anxiety must be exhausting. They really did a number on you with that recent game, huh?

To be fair if Liverpool progress from this position they'll be hard stopped from winning the competition. Only a few seasons ago I watched Ajax managed by Erik Ten Hag beat Real Madrid 4-1 in the Bernabéu.

willing for a bit of punditry on the Napoli game that stretches beyond "he'd be great in the Prem" but not banking on it

White text ;)

I've seen it, but instead of something like "lol" I find you begging for it not to become true. So..your white text basically is black text in white letters, which means your pants indeed are a bit unempty

I was being sarcastic. If I'm being honest Liverpool have absolutely no chance, it's not a case of I couldn't see them not scoring three but their defence is an absolute shambles.

Palace and Bournemouth have 5-6 clear cut chances in recent weeks to score against them, If they do that tonight they will concede heavily

You've got Rodrygo and he's better than Antony.

Vinicious v Trent is a straightforward route to victory and I expect Ancelotti to be all over it

I reckon if I don’t watch we might have a chance since I’m working. I didn’t watch the Barca game and we came back and was so upset after the first half of Istanbul that I walked away and rejoined the match at 3-2.

Missing Alaba. And I feel the pairing of Kroos-Modric, despite their brillance, tend to make Madrid less dynamic. They’d be better off with Tchouameni starting.

One very effective way to deal with Liverpools midfield pressing is to just lob longballs over their heads. So, basically what Madrid have been doing every single time they have played them. And who does that better than these 2?
