Signing a huge 6 year contract literally priced him out of a move for the next 5/6 years, which is exactly what has happened. If he wanted a pay rise, he could either leave or sign a shorter contract.
There's nothing wrong with that choice, but he'd be very silly if he couldn't have foreseen this. That makes me question how hungry he really was / is for trophies.
Same for players like Zaha etc. Caicedo is also playing a risky game.
