that wont happen , poch is tactically levels above lamps.

The current squad is unmanageable. Potter been very hard done by.

Same squad next year, similar points total imo. Surely we'll sort it, mainly. Still see us lacking the goals for top 4 probably.

There were reasons I felt he'd be a better fit in the summer, though I didn't mind if it was ETH. But my reasons were that he plays more high octane, aggressive football, which the fans here crave and is synonymous with our identity as a team in the past. Secondly, he's very good and very willing to develop youth players. I also felt that there was a lot (probably still is) more to get out of some of our players if they could be pushed to play with more energy, as he did at both Southampton and Spurs.

It’s possible the hardest job in football right now but it’s not unmanageable. We just need a strong manager who is willing to take no shit and isn’t afraid of making tough decisions. I could name 10/11 players right off the bat that could/should go in the summer. The harder part is bringing in the right player to really knit these misfits together. Experience, leadership, doesn’t give up and the patient mentoring type - essentially younger Silvas. We have too much potential ability and not enough actual ability.

This season it was unmanageable, Thiago has pretty much come out and said what the issues are. Far too many new players from all over the world, the first team squad so bloated we needed to expand the dressing room. Then you've got all the factions in the nearly 40 players. Lots like Auba and Ziyech who were put the through the meat grinder pretty much and wanted to leave. Most importantly, about 50 goals left from last year and the new players didn't replace them.

It's been mismanagement by the owners. They faced some big challenges of course, pretty much a perfect storm with so many goal getters leaving the club and Tuchel losing the dressing room. A calmer approach would serve us much better in the long run. We'll struggle to shift players this summer and get goals in imo.

Next season probably difficult, hopefully not as bad or worse than this one, if we sort the squad out at least to some degree.

You are overreacting. Villa and Wolves were similarly useless in the beginning. Villa sacked Gerrard and appointed Emery and now they’re on the verge of a potential European place.

We fired Potter and brought in the most useless interim in history. It was to appease the fan base and it was the most diabolical decision they’ve made since purchasing the club, I called it the day it happened that it would end horrendously.

Our defense is fine. We need a keeper that won’t be beaten by long shots and that area of the pitch won’t need too much work. Dave should leave with the new RB coming.w

We need better CMs. Kova and mount want to leave so feck them, they can leave. They’ve both had terrible seasons by their usual standards. A strong dominating dm, try again for a work permit for the Brazilian boy and an intelligent 8 would go a long way to balancing the midfield.

We should rid ourselves of Kante because he won’t be the same level he was at, while he has some kind of value left. We have basically been down a man all season with him.

The next 3 to go would be Auba, Ziyech and Pulisic. Rip up their contracts if we can’t sell them. Toxic, crybaby cnuts that haven’t provided anything to the team. Taking up squad places.

Loan out D Fofana, Broja (because of his serious injury) and Hall.

New manager can decide on Kakkers. If he can get that Conte form back it would save us a lot of money. Otherwise he will be a burden next season. Sign a striker.

Absolute priority is a strong spine. We bought potential and drastically reduced the ability of the squad in the present. Get a GK, a 9 and a leader in midfield and with The right manager we will be fine. We won’t be challenging but we should be top 6 with what we got.

It is already a different squad with the players that are coming in preseason that already have contracts. I think they will clear out quite a bit of players.

i was listening to gary nev and i agreed with what he said , this squad under poch with a top striker is comfortably making the top 4 next year.

azpi, mendy/kepa, rlc, cho, ziyech , pulisic, auba, gallagher , mount, i can see all leaving. Perhaps KK too although I think he'll be better next year

then you got likes of sarr, bakayoko, etc

The difference between those teams and Chelsea is that all of your players think they're big time Charlies, and are on huge wages. Similar issue Utd have had for years.

Only Sterling and KK signed for huge wages recently when the new owners had to get some players for Tuchel very fast after buying the team. All the players bought since are not on huge wages, they have performance bonuses and wage reduction for not making CL.

Its really hard to shift players out of a big club and particularly hard when a big club is in a bad state because that usually means many of the players are sort of damaged goods on the market or at least have images on the market that don't match their wages. The two things all big club supporters consistently overrate are the number of players they can shift in a single window and the amount of money they can get for their players. If you want a realistic number for these things, take whatever most supporters are saying regarding both the number moved and the fees involved and divide it in half.

I think the three players Chelsea could certainly sell are Gallagher (easiest by far due to low wages and mid-table sides remembering his Palace performances), Mount (will be tough negotiations but he'll have a real market), and Kovacic (again, it could be a saga that goes all summer but he has enough pedigree that some big club will want him). I wouldn't be surprised if at least one if not two of these players stay though as Poch may want to keep them.

Ziyech and Auba will have only loan offers or contract buyout scenarios.

Pulisic and Havertz will stay and try their luck with another manager. No club nearly as big as Chelsea will pay significant money for either of them and I don't think either wants to step down to Sevilla or Aston Villa at this point in their careers.

Sterling and Koulibaly are stuck for the long term due to age+wages, they're going to run their contracts down IMO.

I have no idea what happens with Lukaku. I can only see him staying at Inter if he slashes his wages significantly and Chelsea agrees to a permanent transfer for a very low fee.

Pulisic and his father have said they will accept a loan or be open to a sell. He skill set would be great in Italy. He was willing to go to Juventus on loan in the shambles they were is in the past two windows.

If a loan is possible then that seems like a deal that would make sense for all parties. It's hard to know what is going on with Juventus these days though.

Any chance of a link to where Pulisic has said that? Not doubting you but I can't find it.

If you remember after Pulisic released his book and expressed a falling out with Tuchel because Tuchel mislead him, Mark Pulisic blasted out a bunch of tweets trying to gain momentum for the Juventus loan deal. After some serious criticism, Mark deleted the tweets.

Talks about the rift between Pulisic and Tuchel the loan deal surfaced again in the January transfer window

The original loan deal in previous summer window both parties wanted it, most likely Mark doing the talking with Juventus. Mark always speaks for Christian about transfers and criticism. The tweets are gone now.

Pulisic only has a year left on his deal so it would have to be extended by a minimum of 1 year further for a loan to make any sense.

A one year extension followed by a loan with an option to buy would be fine by me though. The extension would cut down his yearly amortisation by half (from £10M to £5M a year) which for the next season would probably be covered by the loan fee and we'd get his salary off the books for the season.

Must be terrible news for Spurs fans, Poch was great for them.

Weird how deal never got through between Pochettino and United. Talks in 2019, before we decided to hire Ole on permanent basis, talks in October/November 2020 before that win at Everton saved Ole his job and talks in 2022 before we opted for ten Hag. Even in 2016 there were rumours Fergie preferred him but club went for Mourinho.

But more on topic: will Poch be right fit for Chelsea? He’ll definitely have more funds than he did at Tottenham.

Can we ban that twat? You know who I mean. Boring, boring wanker.

Funnily enough, they only hate that he is going to Chelsea rather than not returning. At least that’s the majority opinion on fighting cock but they seem a little delusional on there.

Anytime I watched them under potter it seemed like they played great footy just couldn't finish to save their lives. Feel like there's enough talent there with some tweaking they'll be in play next year

He's a good fit, but Boehly could always make any manager impotent.

First order of business is just to clear out the deadwood and fat, whether through sales or loan or whatever. Need to keep the commitment players who are willing to listen and work for the team and manager.

Then stick to a core setup, whether that be a 3 at the back or 4 at the back, 2 or 3 in midfield, then adjust accordingly throughout matches.

Then if someone fecks around, the manager will come down on you, nobody is above the rules.

Overall I think it's a good fit give the circumstances. He's experienced enough, and PL proven with good relationship with English media. Chelsea starters next season would be mostly younger talented players which would fit Poch's "progress" approach, and stamina demanding style. No expectation which should allow him a lot of leeway. No European football for the first season so he has more time to coach, and drill in his idea.

Everybody knows that there is executive meddling at Chelsea, even more than before . Most coaches will go there for the paycheck.

It's a traditionally big club, they all pay rather well. They rarely have issues getting players in and it's in West London, it's hard to not want to go to Chelsea. Just don't buy a house there if you don't intend on living there after 2.5 years as manager!

Unlike managers at bigger clubs who of course work for free.
Lazy attempt. You knew exactly what I meant. The expectation that the manager will get the sack prematurely and seemingly on a whim, with the occasional whacky football idea bounced from the ceo. And knowingly entering that job. Mourinho made a pretty good business out of this.

Poch is a better fit for underdog teams without much pressure and with a set of players willing to listen to him rather than the current spoiled squad at Chelsea. They needed a manager with a big namr who can contain such problematic dressing room. It's a huge misfit in my opinion.

Happy with this move. They won’t be challenging for higher than third or fourth so I’m good with that.

It seems absolutely mental to say it, but for a club that just spent over 600m in a single season, they need to sign a few players to make this squad serviceable.

Their midfield is shite. Kante is half the player he was, and the other half is injured. Enzo has been good but not nearly as great as suggested. RLC just isn’t top level. Kovacic looks like he needs to leave for a new challenge. Mount has had a terrible season and will probably leave and do well elsewhere. So who do they actually have to start in midfield next year, reliably? Enzo? Gallagher should leave, he hasn’t fit there at all. Maybe under Poch he’ll play the Delle Allí role? Zakaria is on loan I believe and will go back, and Chukuwumeka is just, sort of, there…..

For all the money spent on the defence, it’s still pretty shite. James is always injured, azpi is over the hill. Chilwell is good, but 65m Cucu is pretty poor. KK has been horrible and at his age I doubt he will get better. Silva is their best defender and he’s nearly 40. Badiashile is too soon to tell, could be great eventually. Fofana doesn’t look the same player after all his injuries. Is mainly potential. Not a group that inspires confidence.

Forwards are a hot mess. There are so many of them. Mudryk cost a fortune but looks so, so raw. Think it was too early for him to move to a top club. Fofana should probably go out on loan. Sterling has declined a lot and is on massive wages. Felix won’t come back. Obama’sWang is finished as a top level footballer. More massive wages. Pulisic is, and has always been, shite. Ziyech surplus to requirements. Never top level. Broja is coming back from serious injury. Havertz is classy but couldn’t hit a barn door. Lukaku is fat, lazy, clumsy, and useless. CHO will leave, never recovered from his Achilles tear. Madueke has lots of potential, but still doesn’t look top class in the making, jury is out on him. Nkunku is coming in and as with all signings from the BL, it’s better to wait and see before saying anything.

Never, ever have I seen a team spend so much, and assemble such a hodge lodge of shit in all my life. I am sure some of them will come good, but it’s not like anyone they’ve signed excites you thinking that they are a potential super star in the making. None of them look like they have that IT factor. It’s an amazingly average squad, and it’s the most expensively assembled in history I think. Madness. I have no idea where the goals are going to come from.

So a team that finished 3rd last season, spent 600m and went through 3 managers, and now has a worse squad and a worse manager than at the start. Genius. And with all that money spent, they still need to not only sell, loan release about 10 first team players, but they need to strengthen the entire spine of the team. A top class CB, CM, and CF are all needed. Arguably a GK too.

Boehly’s leadership should be a case study in ignorance, incompetence, and hubris.

Harsh but basically spot on assessment. Nicely done!

Because he's one of our resident moaners. Constant focus on the negatives.

To quote myself:
He brought a grand total of two players through at Spurs: Winks and Skipp, and Skipp barely played. "Ah, but Kane" you'll say, but then I'll just point out that Kane was brought into the first team setup by AVB, and made a starter by Sherwood. Poch then spent a good two months threading old ground, trying to get Soldado and Adebayor firing, before coming to the same conclusion Sherwood had done six months earlier and handed the starting spot to Kane.
