F1 2023 Season

Not sure if someone else posted it before but I really enjoyed this interview with Max on Channel 4, probably the most relaxed I've seen him in these sitdowns:

I get some people don't like the winning or his on track behavior at times, but he always seems to very down to earth like his mates Lando, Charles, Daniel etc.

Should see the videos of him streaming iracing and simultaneously playing tea parties with Kvyat's daughter.

It's absolutely fecking insane how inept their strategy team is. How are these people still employed??

It's ingrained into the fabric of the team at this point, doesn't seem to matter who makes the calls. The analogy with United post-SAF on the previous page is sadly far too accurate.

Despite being at a few events actually managed to attend my first race. I remember wondering why Elvis was being played over the speakers just before the race and I’ve just learned it was actually Damian Lewis singing the national anthem

Was a great atmosphere. So much more going on than the actual race. Horner even managed to get a few cheers out of the crowds after the race. Definitely want to do a few more. Maybe not Silverstone with the cost of things but was a good first experience.

Biggest negative is that unless you’re in front of a big screen and have some form of commentary, it’s quite hard to track what’s happening. Still, immense watching the cars do what they do in person.

If they keep doing well in Hypercar and the series continues to grow then surely they will shift focus to that and let the F1 team fade. It's embarrassing at this point how bad they are.

The penalty for Stoll is such bullshit. He went off the track, carelessly came back on and took another car out, ended their race, then only gets a 5-second pen. Nonsense decision.

Really not a fan of Stroll. He's so careless and clumsy. Good job daddy is in charge.
Completely agree.

Yeah no one in this thread would know, but Ferrari won Le Mans and Nurburgring 24h this year. No easy feat. They have talent in that company somewhere.

F1 will turn into a cash cow for them and merc (well it's already happened). Not the place to showcase or test things for actual cars. They'll do that in proper series.

Unless Netflix do a series on it. :)

Ferrari has always needed F1 as much as F1 needs Ferrari, but if they find a big enough audience elsewhere and actual success, that could change.

Yeah I mean in terms of marketing F1 will always be top dog. But I wouldn't be surprised if the SF90 successor comes with LMPH technology not F1. From a company perspective F1 will become a cash generating marketing exercise as long as it finds enough people that buy into it in the current format.

They've already been spotted trademarking the 499GTB name.

The thing is it’s not even them in Hypercar though, the operation is run by AF Corse and Ferrari are just providing the cars, drivers, branding.

I think Ferrari’s issue with tyre deg was exasperated further this weekend, even with the new construction from Pirelli. Whether that’s a poor correlation with their data from practice and they weren’t aggressive enough, or it’s the fact that they haven’t got to the bottom as to why they are chewing through tyres.

True but there is little difference these days. The Hypercar programme is basically the old GTE team plus the F1 guys they had to lose under the cost cap regs.

I like Lando, of all the drivers after Lewis who I'd consider supporting it would be him. Just a likable guy.

It was posted on this thread about their leMans win.

Also lots of F1 tech ends up in road cars and has done for along time now. Sams as tech from WEC ends up in road cars.

That may have been the case. But the transition to electric vehicles is changing that.

In the performance and enthusiast world nobody really gives a feck about electric other than as a way to enhance performance and flatten torque curves, which is exactly how it's used in F1 and WEC.

Didn't realise Piastri didn't have some of the upgrades that Norris had this weekend. If he was in a similar car, I'm pretty confident he could have pushed Max closer than Norris during the race this weekend. Makes his 4th place all the more impressive.

Yeh, he's looking like a real talent. Time and luck with cars will tell if he's hamilton/verstappen level talent.

Hopefully Mclaren can be really competative for rest of season and lando and piastri are allowed to race each other.

It was good to see Norris take Max and at least hold his own untill DRS was enabled, the RB with that DRS is just so fast.
I had not taken any real notice of Piastri, but he looks good and was unlucky with the SC.
With all the upgrades I can see him doing even better.
Of all the teams to get close the Red Bill was not expecting it to be McLaren.

Apparently Nyck de Vries has been sacked with immediate effect, with Daniel taking his drive from Hungary onwards.
Nothing official yet but a few places are reporting it.
Harsh, but understandable. His race pace and management has been woeful compared to Yuki Tsunoda.

Somehow that’s good news for Perez, isn’t it? I was thinking RB might pull the trigger on replacing him with Ricciardo over the summer.

Maybe. Or they give Ricciardo the rest of the season to prove himself in the AlphaTauri and if that goes well he'll then replace Perez in the RB next season.

Not surprised at the Alpha Tauri changes considering their past history of this. It's harsh on De Vries, but there's been harsher replacements in the past.

Not really, as riccardo is auditioning for the 2nd RB seat. Pull off some impressive drives in the AT and blow Tsunoda out of the water. Then it will be a sure thing he will be in a RB next season.

At least it pretty much ensures that they give Perez the rest of the season to prove himself, right?

Also, won't it be tough for Ricciardo to prove himself in the AlphaTauri? The car isn't good, and Tsunoda has a lot more experience with it.

I dont think they would get rid of perez till WDC and Constructors is sown up. Besides whos available mid-season?

Riccardo maybe in a shit car but as long as he out qualifies and out scores Tsunoda then thats a positive. Besides he might raise the benchmark for that car. Theres a theory that last years AM wasnt as bad as it was made out to be, because a) stroll is a average driver and b) vettel wasnt motivated/past his peak. Therefore they didntnt really have a benchmark for the car. Now they do in alonso. Riccardo could have a similar affect on alpha tauri and the car isnt as bad as tsunoda and de vries are making it out to be.

Besides, riccardo just being on the grid adds pressure to perez. Now if perez has to pass him on track during one of his recovery drives......

That’s brutal. I imagine they’ve brought Ricciardo in just to try and claw some points and get better standing for next season.
