Harry Kane | Signs for Bayern

So if the BL is as soft as some of you like to claim, how many goals will a striker who constantly topped the PL (pre-Haaland) charts, score in it?

Put your numbers up.
35 goals, 14 assists. Doddle if he stays fit.

4 years contract there. Hope he could win everything there plus a CL.

Of all the fellow top clubs in Europe, Bayern are by far the most benign, so if we can’t win the CL I would be happy for it to be them

What would have been an interesting career move?

I mean, had he joined, say, FC Zhenis in the Kazakh second division, that certainly would have been an interesting move. But I don't think you mean something like that.
Both United and Madrid were far more interesting moves but his stupid 6 year contract put paid to any serious interest from them this summer, leaving a choice of another year at Tottenham or the easy life at Bayern.

Other than City and Real (neither of whom were options) they’re as safe a bet for big trophies as you can get. Anyone who thinks he should’ve waited a year for us or Liverpool… I mean he’s hardly guaranteed trophies at either. Clearly after not winning any in his career he just wants some to his name rather than a meaningless PL goals record. Fair fecks to him.

Yeah, exactly. Perfect move for him. Basically guaranteed some medals in a top league. As well as a very good chance of going deep in the CL every season. No brainer really.

I have to give him credit for going abroad and Germany and trying something new. Great team, great city. He will do well.

Somehow I do feel Kane is Tottenham and Tottenham is Kane. There is something about playing in same team whole career. Shame he couldn't lift some trophy there.

Did you all say that Sane left City for easy life in Munich also? Did Mane left Liverpool for same reasons?

Don't know if it is British arrogance, but the disrespect Bayern and Bundesliga is getting is extremely wrongly placed here.

Surprised he went there. Really thought he wanted that record and he could have chosen any English club bar City and killed a cash cow next year. A bit sad to lose another great Premier League player, not been the best summer in that regard.

He’ll finish his career with less meaningful medals than Luke Chadwick. A career somewhat wasted.

It’s more to do wit the fact it’s an extremely one sided league which no one outside of Germany particularly cares about.

Spurs season feels like it's over already. Without Kane they've got so little. They'll be desperately hoping Son can get back to his best, otherwise they're nowhere.

He needed that move, he needs to develop a winner mentality, also for England. Your captain needs to be winning trophies and be a star at a big club, Spurs is not cutting it.

He did not want to waste another year at Spurs playing for the 6th place and then go to United/Chelsea/Liverpool and play for top 4 again. He gets enough money at Bayern. He wants silverware. Finally. Even if it is easier at Bayern, Haaland at City currently is not difficult either. He made the right choice this summer, as long as he gets on with life in Germany.

Still can’t believe he didn’t wait until next season.
And can’t believe Bayern paid that to buyout a one year contract.
He will be great for them and they can always sell back to PL teams and recoup a fair bit? Guess he didn't want to hang around Levy any longer. :boring:

Who cares about a record that Haaland will probably break in a few years anyway? Footballers are above all else remembered for trophies.

As if people care about other leagues than the one their team plays in. It's a complete fallacy demonstrated by the complete lack of knowledge that most people have for other leagues.

Haaland was 11 the last time a team that isn’t Bayern won the Bundesliga. Sit down.

Not sure why Real Madrid are that much more interesting. Sure, there are the Clásicos, he would get to play in those. But apart from that...

And I love the idea that an English striker, who spent his entire life and career in England, signing for England's biggest club is somehow an interesting story. It's literally the most boring, predictable thing. It's exactly like a great German player signing for Bayern.

Another Kane thread? ...How many do we need?

And it's not even a real record. And the fact that people so easily ignore the actual english first division record is telling.

He should’ve stayed in the PL and joined City/ us, and broken records or made this move five years ago. By moving to Bayern at this stage it’s a pretty pointless move as he won’t be there long enough to have a lasting impact.

A real shame his career has turned out this way. This is what happens when you get into bed with cockroaches like Levy.

Don’t get the hate on Kane joining Bayern. He’s 30 with no trophy’s. You’re going to join a team that guarantees you trophies before you hang your boots up. He ain’t gonna join a project team like us and hope we win a trophy. At Bayern he’s guaranteed a league title, probably the German cup, a decent chance at the CL. He could even win his first trophy tonight in the super cup.

Alan Shearer is remembered for his goal scoring achievements, not the one medal he won in his career.
Alan Shearer is remembered as an excellent striker even by those who have no idea he holds the "top scorer since 1992" record. Much like how Gabriel Batistuta is also remembered as a brilliant striker, even though he doesn't have a Serie A record and has only the one scudetto to his name.

He only just hit 30 and it's probably not a coincidence, needs to win. He probably made a mistake not going to a bigger PL club earlier in his career. Only viable PL club for this window was Utd, not going to a London rival and City don't need another striker.

Bayern playing tonight, probably comes off the bench for his debut?

I will be the first to admit, I thought there was zero chance he would go to Bayern.

If Spurs knew he was going why the hell wait until the day the new season starts ?

Yeah, I bet he's totally depressed.

He wanted to join city few years ago but because of their stupid owner he wasn’t aloud to go or he got overpriced and city wouldn’t pay it. Levy would never sell him to anyone in the same league for less than 150m. They got 100m for him from Bayern. What would you choose, to break records or to win trophy’s? If you pick the first one then your mentality is low.

La Liga and Bundesliga are close in international viewership. Be honest, you think every league except PL is crap.

Think it would have been a tough call between the goal scoring record and the silverware. But, I think he’s made the right decision. The game is about the glory and if things go well there, then he will get the glory in abundance.

Feels weirdly insignificant and underwhelming this news.

It’s big news he’s leaving Spurs, but boring news that he’s going to Bayern. Beyond PSG he couldn’t have chosen a more boring big club and league.

Well the obvious point that you seem to have missed is that they play in leagues that are actually competitive.

What if he scores 40+ goals a season for the next 4 years? What if they win the Champions League with him as the top scorer?

Plenty of time for him to have a lasting impact.

He's 30 and the only guarantee of trophies are at City, Madrid, Bayern and maybe Barca. And he's possibly chosen the safest option out of those clubs.

Fair play to the guy. Hope he does well.
