Maguire | he stays!

His side of the story :

Where's the personal and professional pride?

He's 5th choice ffs, was stripped of the captaincy and gets booed by his own supporters every time he touches the ball yet there's zero sense of urgency for a change of scenery and to restart his own career

Yeah but you'd surely play hardball a little bit to get a few million in your sky rocket if your agent told you he'd get it for you wouldn't you?

Thing is the deal isn't dead yet. I think it still gets done and we get Pavard in.
Sure about that?

No one thinks that West ham have tried to pull their usual we are skint and can't pay much act? This doesn't quite work when you've sold a player for British transfer record.

He started 8 league games last season and that's with him being ahead of Lindelof at the start of the season.

Any notion that he wants to challenge for his place is nonsense. He knows he won't play but is happy to sit on the contract instead of going out to play games.

Or he could turn out every week for West Ham for a lot less cash and maybe even get relegated. I’d be going no where either after hearing very positive manager remarks all week!

Damn. That reads like a brief straight from United. Deal definitely off, then. We're stuck with the big, slow (and presumably now miserable) lummox.

No chance at all of Pavard/Todibo/Tapsoba now, either.
Pavard was the most likely and he divided opinion on here. It’s not the worst news. Midfield is more important to address this summer.

Anyone have insight to what West Ham forum are saying?

Haven't looked in depth but they're not too flustered. Some thought Maguire could be an OK signing... But they can probably find a decent younger CB at that price. Tah was offered to them.
In general just worried at how slow their business is taking so not unlike here.

Fair enough, objectively he would have been good there, guess they are not all too gutted though.

You can bet your ass that he construed EtH's comments as an encouragement to actually fight for his place and decided that's enough to cling on.

Nah, we just didn't cough up the payoff he and his agent were hoping for. I'd guess the deal was dead at the point EtH made those comments, otherwise he wouldn't have made them. He won't be fighting for anything - he's the Premier League's most expensive bench warmer for the next two years.

The only reason he's staying is because ETH made it clear that him fighting for his place is still an option. If the alternative was rotting in the U-21s, he would've left.

There will be a massive meltdown next time he makes a mistake. About 95% of the fans dislike him at his point, why stay?

What a total disaster. All optimism for the new season sapped before it's even begun!

This is almost as disappointing as our performance yesterday. We fecked up big time, again. Could have actually got decent money from him and McTominay if we weren't a terribly run club.

If he can stop slowing down the game and not try to play that diagonal pass every time he gets the ball, I will be happy(ier) for a start.

We look awful every time he plays. This is so annoying and the manager is making a very risky move by keeping him. He cost him last season and will do again.

I hope once we have our defenders all fit, he doesn't even make the bench. Staying to fight for nothing.

The club have known for all of last season that his role was going to diminish, that they likely need to begin to look at replacements. Saying there isn't enough time is a load of rubbish.

Gives us a chance to scout a replacement for a year who should be genuine competition for Varane and Martinez.
