Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

I didn't read the whole thing. So it may be out of context.

But they can hardly call any of UKR campaigns as well-mechanized. Even if they had the equipment to do it, they wouldn't be enough for multiple axes at once because there are five miles deep of obstacles and mines in most places.

There might be a way to send up to 100 more Leopard 1A5 MBT to Ukraine: https://flight.com.gr/arms-in-ukraine-greece-does-not-give-up-it-exchanges/

But the story that's unfolding here just shows what kind of a shitshow international arms deals can become:
- a decade ago Italy decommissioned their Leopard 1A5 and sold them to Swiss company RUAG
- nothing happened, the tanks are still in Italy
- Germany tried to buy them from RUAG to send them to Ukraine
- Swiss government refused permission due to its neutrality laws (remember we are talking about German built tanks that are currently stored in Italy and have never even been in Switzerland)
- Greece has a lot of active Leopard 1A5 and doesn’t want to give any of them away
- Germany now tries to broker a deal that Greece will give its tank to Ukraine and in turn Germany will buy and modernize the RUAG stock to send that to Greece (which should be allowed by Switzerland).

If that does even happen the end result would be the same, but heavily delayed, just so that Switzerland can pretend to be neutral.

Switzerland is a shithole. Their neutrality serves only to assure every corrupt and criminal rich person on this earth that their money is safe in their country, so they don't stop bringing it in. I never understood why a small country in the middle of Europe is allowed to be the lair of the worst scum.

You kinda answered it. Rich people want a safe place for their money.

At least some measures are now implemented to reduce their influence, like Rheinmetall recently opening their new medium caliber ammunition production in Germany (so far they relied on one in Switzerland which has proved to be problematic)

Looks like the liberation has picked up a little bit of speed after overcoming the first heavily mined defense line.

Really impressive how Ukraine created the ability to strike in Russia and built it up to this level, almost every day now they are attacking targets all over western Russia.

Yeah, it looks like they figured out the gaps in the Russian air defense. The country is way too big to cover everything and Ukraine is exploiting it.

Nice thread to give some context to the claims that Ukraine did not even reach the first line of defense:

tl;dr what is obvious to see and claimed to be the first line simply isn't it, but lots of hidden positions in tree lines etc are the true first lines.

Reportedly this shows all targets Ukraine attacked during the night. A mix of military bases (most prominent Pskov and the up to 6 planes destroyed there) and factories producing military stuff.

A good overview of the current situation at the southern front from Noelreports

Just wanted to post that as well. Looks like Ukraine is now fighting inside Verbove, which means that the Surovikin line has been broken through. Russians are very worried about this development, but of course it's to early to make definite statements.

Yeah, according to this twitter account with an even more detailed map, they've breached the line at Verbove. If true, then it would support the reports that the large minefields were overcome in some places along the front and hopefully it's gonna get easier from there. I don't think the Russians mined the next lines as heavily as they did the first line, because they need safe spaces to move to the front.

edit: If you love to look at maps, here is a very good interactive map that gets updated frequently

I expect NK have missiles that can fire round corners, even if unintended

Probably expect shitloads of soviet artillery and small arms that fits perfectly with the current warfare that Russia is waging. NK has many munition stockpiled and manufactured based on soviet designs that Russia needs

Also has a land border and can bypass any sanctions easily. you might laugh but it will help Russia good enough
