UK’s GB News found in breach of impartiality rules
Daniel Thomas in London
GB News, the right leaning UK TV channel, breached impartiality rules by airing an interview of the British chancellor conducted by two of his fellow Conservative MPs, the country’s media watchdog has found.
Ofcom’s decision reflects growing concern over impartiality of media given the widespread use of politicians to present news and current affairs programmes, and especially by GB News, which is being investigated for six further potential breaches of impartiality.
Ofcom said the programme, presented in March by Esther McVey and Philip Davies, two sitting Conservative MPs, was “overwhelmingly reflective” of opinion within the party.
It featured a pre-recorded interview with Jeremy Hunt on the government’s economic and fiscal policies ahead of the Spring Budget.
