Manchester United v. Sheffield United

we shouldn't be resting anyone, I don't know why people keep saying so, this is the end of season finale, we need to take maximum points from every game now to ensure we win the league. Hopefully, O'Shea and Rio are both fit, otherwise, we should be right

Belfast Telegraph today 1315 Hrs.
Craig Cathcart will make his first-team debut for Manchester United in tomorrow night's Premiership encounter with Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

The 18-year-old Newtownabbey youngster has captained the United youth team to the final of the FA Youth Cup, but he has been pulled out of tonight's first-leg against Liverpool at Anfield.

Instead the Northern Ireland under-21 international will face the Blades in a crunch game as United close in on a treble.

Currently the United first-team squad is struck by an injury crisis in defence.

Cathcart has been in the squad for a number of games recently and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup semi-final against Watford on Saturday evening.

Sir Alex Ferguson decided against throwing Cathcart into such a big game when instead he deployed substitute Darren Fletcher at right-back in a defensive reshuffle when Rio Ferdinand was forced off injured in the first-half.

Now though the manager has little option but to give the youngster his big break in the Premiership as he is one of only four fit defenders available at present.

Captain Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic, Mikael Silvestre, John O'Shea and Ferdinand are all injured, with Patrice Evra, Gabriel Heinze and Wes Brown the only recognised first-team defenders that Ferguson can select at present.

Northern Ireland will still be represented in the United team for tonight's FA Youth Cup game at Anfield.

Corry Evans, younger brother of senior international newcomer Jonny - who is currently on-loan from United to Championship leaders Sunderland - is in the squad and is expected to start.

The second-leg of the final will be played at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

don't think Cathcart will start, If O'Shea doesn't recover, Fletcher will take the right-back spot.

O'Shea is apparently fit according to SSN.

----- VDS ------

O'Shea - Brown - Heinze - Evra

Ronaldo - Carrick - Scholes - Giggs

Rooney - Smith

1. PIG
2. Fletcher
3. Cathcart
4. Richardson
5. Solskjaer

That would do, I'd think.

Nervous about this one. Think we'll do it, but they're fighting for their lives and it won't be easy. Praying for a win and no injuries.

United to win 3 - 1.........

3-0 United

4-0, S.U. is awful and United have been unstoppable at OT all year

that's optimistic. I'm always a bit worried before every game, specially against teams that have something to play for, other than pride.
be delighted if you're right though.

Hopefully we won't be looking ahead. It'd be nice to get a couple of early goals and put them under a lot of pressure.

Setting off now and taking my son. We'd better win, it'd be a hard experience for the lad if we lost although he is a good luck charm - last three matches I took him to I think were Fenebache (won 6-2), West Ham (won 1-0) and Charlton (4-0)

Doubts over Davis & Stead for Old Trafford test

By TheBladesOnline.com
Date: 17/4/2007

With more than half an eye on Charlton at the weekend, Neil Warnock is likely to be without Claude Davis, and Jon Stead is a doubt for the daunting trip to Manchester United.

Warnock, however, says that he will be resisting the temptation to field a weakened side against the Premiership leaders.

He has, of course, got himself over a barrel, having recently shot his mouth off about other managers fielding understrength sides.

Perhaps as good an argument as any for keeping your trap shut lest it come back to bite your arse later. If you'll pardon the mess of a metaphor.

Davis is almost certainly out, having injured his ankle on Saturday, while Stead is doubtful, having got a knock against West Ham.

Warnock is likely to go 4-5-1, which could see Christian Nade given the opportunity to watch Manchester United's goals from a distance, though some might wonder if and when Luton Shelton is going to get a run-out - surely his pace would be more effective than Nade's strength when the Blades' only hope of scoring is likely to be balls over the top?

Sheffield Utd full of confidence then ???

Good line up. I'm glad we're showing respect to our opposition with our line ups.

That will be interesting. Don't see the reason to bench VDS when we need a leader and experience at the back.

VDS took a bit of a battering against Watford, don't see any problem giving the Pole a go. Expect him to give away at least one penalty, although he'll probably save it.
