Belfast Telegraph today 1315 Hrs.
Craig Cathcart will make his first-team debut for Manchester United in tomorrow night's Premiership encounter with Sheffield United at Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old Newtownabbey youngster has captained the United youth team to the final of the FA Youth Cup, but he has been pulled out of tonight's first-leg against Liverpool at Anfield.
Instead the Northern Ireland under-21 international will face the Blades in a crunch game as United close in on a treble.
Currently the United first-team squad is struck by an injury crisis in defence.
Cathcart has been in the squad for a number of games recently and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup semi-final against Watford on Saturday evening.
Sir Alex Ferguson decided against throwing Cathcart into such a big game when instead he deployed substitute Darren Fletcher at right-back in a defensive reshuffle when Rio Ferdinand was forced off injured in the first-half.
Now though the manager has little option but to give the youngster his big break in the Premiership as he is one of only four fit defenders available at present.
Captain Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic, Mikael Silvestre, John O'Shea and Ferdinand are all injured, with Patrice Evra, Gabriel Heinze and Wes Brown the only recognised first-team defenders that Ferguson can select at present.
Northern Ireland will still be represented in the United team for tonight's FA Youth Cup game at Anfield.
Corry Evans, younger brother of senior international newcomer Jonny - who is currently on-loan from United to Championship leaders Sunderland - is in the squad and is expected to start.
The second-leg of the final will be played at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
