Onana has not worked out. We need a new keeper.

You wouldn't know improvement if it hit you in the forehead, pal. And while suggesting shocking errors why don't you try and list DDG's of last year and Onana's of this year, see how the count goes and then talk about improvement. Whether DDG is at another club or not means feck all to whether Onana has been any kind of improvement never mind a 50m one. And you were one of those who claimed that it was going to be so easy to improve on the DDG of last year, now all you have is delusion that DDG also made shocking errors. Well yes he did, Onana has made about 20 and you have the cheek to talk about improvement.

Regarding the stats, of you follow their pattern, all our players outperformed the system apparently, and we have a great squad, just a shitty manager, so try and mask Onana's shocking season behind xGa.
Cool, you carry on being right in your own mind mate.

Maybe someone would have taken you seriously if not for the second paragraph.

Here you talk about basics again, and blubber a load of crap about how Onana does the basics, while the guy can't position himself properly half of the time, can't clean save shots half of the time, whenever he needs to save a low shot falls like a bag of concrete and yeah does not deal with crosses as well. You again hide you agenda behind stats, "two or three times more likely to deal with crosses" how about last weekend? If it was DDG you'd probably hold that Arsenal goal against the GK for not collecting the cross in the small box. And made some shocking errors this year, same as DDG last year?

This last thing about the errors is ridiculous even by your own standards.

But last May you claimed it would be so easy to replace someone as bad as DDG, what happened? Why is our 50m GK being doubted by so many?
Aww has someone forgotten to take their medication? Bless your socks.

I can't post it . There's a video on YouTube called ' here's why United got rid of de gea ' it's his blooper collection from last year .

I recommend you go and watch it before somebody takes your bet , I don't want you out of pocket
Yes there is one, try and watch it instead of acting smart ass. It was posted on here half a year ago, consist of the same mistakes show couple of times, misplaced passes and saves he didn’t make. If the same fella with the same attention to detail decided to do the same fir Onana it will be half an hour long. I recommend you do your homework first.

We would be bottom half and not in a cup final if de Gea were our keeper this year. How anyone can watch de Gea from 2018 onwards and determine he is a Top 5 league starting goalkeeper is beyond me.

All keepers make howlers and have good games where they win points on their own.

The problem with Onana is his average level - his overall technique is really poor. I just can't see this being improved - I think there are big fundamental issues.

I'm certain he won't last that long before we move on.

I suspect he will be around for a few more years given that we just broke the bank on a keeper less than 12 months ago.

It's possible but it wouldn't be for football reasons. Similar with continuing to play Antony when he's clearly not good enough.

That Ten Hag worked with them both and thought they were worth shelling out for is an aside but a huge red flag that should result in ETH (if he stays) being removed from any recruitment decisions.

Anyhow, I'm certain a new manager with a budget would IMO immediately change him.

Who knows, he might make some miraculous improvement but I just don't see it in him.

hopefully the new ownership group is able to rehaul the back positions to allow for playing out from the back. Currently see a lot of the same as we saw under DDG. Makes sense though when you see who we have had in front of Onana though.

Yes, he was horrendous in the CL, but I think he's shown enough in 2024 to warrant another season.

We have bigger issues in the squad to fix, and I'm not sure changing the GK will give us the biggest bang for buck.

For me he had a decent second half of the season. There is a player there and maybe we shouldn’t write him off after one season. Even De Gea had a shocking first season. Hopefully next season we have a settled back four and they can learn to play together from the back.

I was promised Assists by Onana to Rashford.

Alas they never arrived.

The interview was good. Sounds like a good lad.

Like many posters above. He had a nervy start and than settled well. I don't think he is long term solution though. But we have bigger priority and Onana can be dealt with next season.

At first I thought he was a disaster and wanted him gone asap, but as the season went he improved bit by bit. He even saved very difficult shots recently.
Judging by how exposed he was,how bad we are at defending and the big number of shots he had to face, I guess he did alright.

Got rid of De Gea, bought Onana, then went on to play the same football that is suited to De Gea, and not suited to Onana.

Another stroke of genius by the manager.

And in the process conceded 15 more goals and dropped us from 3rd to 8th.

Onana cannot do it on his own. Having our best ball playing CBs out for extended periods of the season have not helped him. Thankfully smarter and wiser people like Wilcox will see that you cannot judge a player on one season.

A lot of factors dropped us from 3rd to 8th that aren’t on Onana.

The point being, ETH's punt on Onana didn't result in improving us one bit. Therefore he could've just as easily kept De Gea and invested the money elsewhere.

Eh? So its Onana's fault?

It’s Ten Hag’s fault. He made conscious choices to buy specific players and the results and table position speak for themselves.
Agree. Not saying Onana is the answer but christ its def not solely on him.

Hes the same player he was at every other club he has been at.

It is not good enough. But it is ten hag and the idiots that sanctioned paying 50+ million for a man who moved on a free 18 months previously who were at fault.

Everyone involved in that transfer, and the antony one, should be out of the club. All of them.

So how did Inter get to the final?
Also 3 dutch titles and cups?

He made conscious choices to ask for certain players and the idiots who used to make key decisions at our club (thankfully sacked or not involved any longer) allowed it. And even managed to run the prices UP which is some negotiation skills.

I don't think a GK is a priority this summer. Sure Onana has had some real howlers and he was a factor in our embarrassing CL performance but since the turn of the year he's largely been consistently decent to very good and you can see the confidence in his play now.

He'll probably have a stinker in the cup final now.

True, but ultimately, its the manager who wants certain players. No one forced the likes of Arnold or anyone else to spend £166m on three players who haven't improved us.

Agreed. Even with a new manager, there's no way the club will sanction another #1 keeper after having paid nearly £50m on one last summer. Unless Onana continues on his early season form, I can't see him going anywhere.

In fairness fans have the benefit of hindsight when it comes to opinions on signings.

NOW you know how it feels when people want to give ETH or Onana another year.

But Onana, errors in the CL and all, has been observably positive during the league campaign. Considering his first year in a difficult position, he probably deserves another year. Just.

EtH has gone backwards, as did de Gea over a much longer period so the two aren't really the same thing.
