They waited to win the title for 30 years and he brought it to them (and for most of those 30 years they had to watch their biggest rivals dominate in the league). If we wait for next title 30 years (that's possible, 11 already gone) and then win it, that manager who wins it will be appreciated a lot. So nothing wrong with it really.

What I mean is, when talking about SAF, people don’t say he won 13 titles and then covers that with a but he also came second too. It’s about the titles. Of which klopp won one, but it’s always mentioned ‘but he came second too’
I just find the bragging/banter over who has the best net spend extremely boring. Not sure how that relates to financial doping and fraud.
Net spend is a load of bollocks to fluffing up klopp as if he worked on a shoe string. Why doesn’t real spend get mentioned, like him breaking the world record fee for a defender and then breaking the world record fee for a goal keeper. Poor Liverpool and klopp not being able to spend and getting bigged up for ‘net spend’
But but...if City didn't exist he'd have dominated the league. Shock horror, SAF would have had about 5 or 6 more titles if Wengers Arsenal, Mancini's City and Mourinho/Carlo's Chelsea didn't exist, but they did.

I agree, it's not something fans should be beating the drum about. My point was that FSG set us up in the (naive) belief that everyone would play within the rules and stick to FFP, and net spend is a big factor in that. We did that, had 2 unreal seasons and still came up short. Typically, the same fans that call us out on net spend and talking about points totals, will also be in the Pep thread calling him a fraud, and the City thread demanding the book be thrown at them.

I agree. But also that’s why I think AC Milan might appeal to him. Historically a heavyweight club, but currently not where they’d like to be, although greatly improved from where they were.

I think Carragher is right with what he is saying here, I think the European success does put Klopp ahead of Wenger.
Of course he would but Klopp's average league performance would be far lower than Wenger's had he managed for as long as him.
I have never understood why getting to a final and losing, is a great achievement.
Saying that Liverpool has competed with United and Chelsea spending a billion quid is pretty dumb. Klopp took over when United had already declined pretty massively, and we've just spent money on garbage. We haven't been tough competition. As for Chelsea they have won the same amount of league and CL titles as Klopp during his tenure - one of each. Since Arsenal managed to reach a higher level, Liverpool have been 3rd best in the league anyway.

It's not some great achievement at all, but consistently getting to finals is still a lot better than not getting to finals at all. As to using the word "failure" for losing a final:

They sold Countino for £1bn as well though so net spend practically zero init la boss that.
But they won't be having it will they? But what I found out only now is they actually had a bus parade in 2006 after winning the Fa Cup and in 2022 after 2 domestic cups. I get that in 2022 they came close in the league and CL but it's still a bit odd they celebrated winning domestic cups enough to have a parade through the city.
I find it funny when people who have never played the game at a high level completely disregard reaching the final of the biggest club tournament and it a failure. Like yea, I'm sure players would never want to reach a final if they would lose it.
On the argument of Klopp v Wenger, from a Prem perspective Wenger > Klopp and it's not even a question. From an overall perspective it's a lot more close given Klopp won two titles in Germany and ofcourse has better European results but then Wenger has his title at Monaco as well, that should not be completely disregarded.
They’re only not having it because they realised that it was OTT. It’s very odd that people think coming 2nd or winning a domestic cup is reason for a street parade.

You ask Fergie about the CL, he will say, I underachieved and only won it twice.
You ask Klopp about the CL, he will say, i did great and got to 4 finals.
That's because SAF had the number 1 team in England for almost two decades while Klopp has only realistically had a team good enough to win the UCL for 6-7 years and reached 3 finals with that team. The year he went to the final with Dortmund was an achievement in itself.
Would Sir Alex consider the European campaign a failure in the two years we lost to Barca in the final? Is the period from 2006-2011 a failure because we only won once even though he reached two more finals? The disappointment for United is more the period of the 90s and early 00s where winning once was an underachievement given the level of our squad. 2006-2011 was a very successful period where we ended up facing one of the greatest teams of all time.
Sir Alex didn’t have the number one team in England for two decades. Sir Alex took over a team of perennial underachievers and transformed them into the best team in England. There’s a big difference. He started from the same platform as Klopp.
Arguably worse, and constantly reinvented himself and the team.
I'm not being funny, but if you know anything about SAF, the answer to that is a bit obvious. He hated losing.
