It is a small foot note but we weren't dominated by Coventry. That's a huge over statement

re Coventry we were extremely lucky. We deserved to win based on first half but once they got our number in the second half they scored 4 times and missed several good chances. They deserved to win in my opinion.

They got a penalty that was really dubious and it changed the momentum, but I think it's all relative. One of the front runners in tuchel got beat in the German Cup by a side in the third division.
 
People shitting on the FA cup saying we didn’t deserve it because of the Coventry game to drive home their ETH out agenda is pathetic. We beat Liverpool and City en route to winning it . A bit of luck v Coventry was well deserved even though Wan Bissaka’s penalty wasn’t a penalty.

It might be. But the statement we got extremely lucky in the total of Coventry, Liverpool and City games is just reality. We somehow won the cup, credit to the manager, but it should not influence the decision on his future, unless the board wants us to continue being a "flip of the coin" team.

We got some luck in the 1999 F.A. Cup semi, so did we not deserve the treble, we were lucky in CL final that year. Winners usually do get some luck along the way.

Coventry were shit for the first half. Right from the start of the second half things were far more even as their manager had changed a couple of things, and if anything I thought they were slightly the better team even though we did get that third goal in that period. Then obviously things swung further and further their way.

Overall we were the better team over the course of the match, but the fact that even a midtable Championship team was able to get on top of us and that a manager who has never managed above the Championship out-managed ETH was a terrible indication of how bad things were getting.

Sounds like firing out of rage rather than evaluating pedigree to be honest. Whilst agreeing he should have tweaked when he had injured players, I don't think he has gaping flaws that many other managers don't have. Remember, his medical team is broadly shit too, if they have miscommunicsted and misjudged injuries (which they've proven to do), it hampers planning.

He was too stubborn for too long but insinuating he's not adaptable and outright won't learn form his mistakes is presumotious.

Can you give an example of any match this season where you thought “wow, that’s a great tactical move by EtH, I’d never have thought of that”?

What you seem to be saying is that we should ignore the fact he persisted with terrible tactics for 99% of the season and give him credit for switching to a basic common sense formation that anybody on the Caf could have come up with for the last couple of games of the season.

I expect a higher standard from the Manchester United manager.

Not sure how you derived I insinuated that ETH was "building anything". However, trying to use Arteta as some kind of blueprint for success is fecking bonkers.

How is it bonkers? You're just seeing what you want to see. To claim Arteta (and Arsenal) weren't rebuilding is just wrong. He started to implement changes to their football, they started to clear out overpaid and ageing players etc. It has been the absolute epitome of a rebuild. I suspect you have some sort of agenda as to why you can't accept this. They've gone from nowhere to being title challengers in a few years.

The first 2 years were tragic and plenty of Arsenal fans wanted him out. Stop rewriting history here. It worked out in the end, but it certainly didn't look like it would early days. In that case, we might as well let ETH stay on.

Football does this sometimes. Anomalies for success pop up and then loads of clubs try to replicate it. We saw it after Pep too, with lots of former players getting jobs they were in no way qualified for, because it worked at Barca.

You can see elements in any team with another team. Its still football. But that 2019 Ajax team was completely different to this united side. They had Frankie De Jong who built up from the back but could also drop into the CB's. Who do we have? Eriksen? They had creative forwards and not the direct Rashford, Garnacho type forwards. They had a passing Donny as a 10 and not the more direct Bruno. And on and on. This team cant play that way and they dont. Its a million miles off that Ajax team in regards to style and tactics.

Exactly. It's a complete anomaly. It worked out in the end, but it certainly didn't look like it would.

Can't disagree with any of that, just disagreeing with the notion we deserved to lose on the balance of the game overall beyond as 'punishment' for being such goobers in the second half. Coventry were still massively helped by that penalty and we were hurt by an unlucky deflection.

I think if anything I'm just annoyed by people crying about the offside decision, it's literally the rules of the game - and it's happened to us plenty.

It's not that either, we had more than 10 games on top of league games.

We had 6 games in FA Cup last year, 6 games in League Cup and 12 EL games - a total of 24 additional games in 22-23. We won 18 of them, drew 3 and lost 3.

This year we had 6 FA Cup games, 2 League Cup games and 6 CL games. That's 14 extra games We won 7, drew 2 and lost 5.

So in aggregate, we've played 38 games outside of Premier League, and have gone W25, D5 L8 in them. This record is obviously somewhat inflated by the fact we played EL in our first season (a very easy group as well, with Omonia and Sheriff, as well as incredibly easy CL group this year) and we've also had very easy draws in domestic cups (e.g. all our cup draws last season were at home).

Yeah, totally wouldn't make sense for the club to display the trophy that they won. We know manager is the most important thing. After all, it's Ten Hag's trophy.

Personally i dont care much about ETH, sack him or not, same shit for me but find it funny how when we search for a manager, people having an issue with someone who is not a winner, not having trophies etc. When current manager wins something with us, people tend to put league position and CL spot (competition where we hold other teams by the pocket) over any type of cup.
 
Yeah, I mean, the club have every right to show off a trophy that the club won. Bit of a stretch to take anything from that post.

But why would they post it now? It should either of been posted a week ago, or after the manager decision has been released, not whilst the decision is still ongoing?

Nobody wants managers based on their success in domestic cups though. When people talk about winners it's usually the league or CL.

That is a new trend. That seems to be about hiring the "students of Pep", which everyone seem to be trying these days. Much like we saw with "students of Fergie" for a few years.

Xavi did not win the league, he won the cup and Barca have been no where near Real Madrid - multiple reasons for that, but Xavi has been no more successful than your average Barca manager. Arteta has not won anything since the first half season in charge, but what he is building is entertaining and intriguing. Even if it were to work out for Arteta in the end, that does not mean that it works for everyone else.

Why do a section of United fans love the idea of writing off seasons. Ah sure give him next season and if he's making a tit of everything again we'll sack him. Makes no sense whatsoever to any sane club.
