How much would de Ligt cost? I'm not completely sold on him but if a move for him is smoother and cheaper than Branthwaite, it's probably the move to make.

I would ideally like 2 centre backs as well. However, it's important to plan appropriately. Martínez is one of our best and most important players. If he's gonna play LCB, we should be targeting players we can pair him with. Branthwaite is ideal in this sense.
I love Martinez but I’m not sure we can have full faith in him being fit for the full season. Isn’t Branthwaite left footed? Ideally we sell Lindelof and buy a right footed centre back aswell.

I don't consider Martínez to be an injury prone player, not yet at least. I'm cautiously optimistic about the restructuring of the medical department under Ineos as well.

De Ligt has failed at Juve and Bayern, there's no reason to consider him.
We're being linked with him because he's a former Ten Hag player that's it. Thank feck we're taking recruitment control away from him.

It's called telling it like it is. The club needs to give me reasons not to be cynical.

Well we just beat City, won the cup, have a new footballing structure, investment in Carrington, planned development of Old Trafford, Glazers relegated from footballing decisions, Wilcox/Berada/Ashworth, exciting young players like Mainoo/Garnacho/Hojlund, a treble winning u18 squad..

Plenty to be optimistic about but you seem to want to look for negatives at each opportunity. Try and be more optimistic. You’ll feel better for it!

You can keep telling yourself that but in fact you're relentlessly negative
I'll be relentlessly positive when the club starts going in the right direction! The Carrington refurbishment is a good start to be fair.

De Ligt is one of the best ball playing CB's in the world, he's not a marginal upgrade on Maguire for a side that's trying to play from the back and attack with a high press.

Contrary to popular opinion, Maguire also has good qualities in possession and is able to play in a high defensive line. We were one of the highest defensive lines in the Premier League in Ole's two full seasons, when Maguire was the first name on the team sheet. In comparison, Varane and Martínez were always one of the lowest in 2022/23.

Mind you, I'd take de Ligt if the 42m price tag is true, but he isn't worth it at 60+ for me.

Hard pass on De Ligt, Juve and Bayern don't generally sell their best players, especially ones as young. The fact that Juve were happy to get rid after just a coupe of seasons, and now Bayern likewise, should tell you all you need to know.
If it's a loan then fair enough, but nothing more.

55 for Branthwaite is more than reasonable compromise. Anything above it, is simply over paying. I'll be annoyed if we actually get De Ligt, he's injury prone as feck and he's on insane wages.

42 mil in eur? That’s worth to considering I think. My impression about him from not many games I saw is his softness and slowness, especially in defending the box. He probably can only play a squad role. Then, his high wage (I assume) doesn’t make the idea great.

Juve we're in a very bad place financially back then, they needed the cash.

He's also one of Bayern's few sellable assets so it makes sense for them at the moment.

First journalist I've seen that has said we want both Branthwaite and Yoro.
Ornstein reported that the club view Yoro as an independent transfer regardless of any other moves, a special case because of his potential and availability.

De Light £42m amortised for 5 years and he’s ok €260k per week so he’d want £10m per year wages and then £8.25m to buy him that’s combined on book at £18.25-18.5m. Branthwaite would cost £160k per week or £8.3m annually wages and £60m over 5 years is £12m cost in instalments so in real terms Branthwaite doesn’t cost much more.

Bayern fans think he's their best CB and is only being sold because of his wages. He won Serie A in his first season at Juve and won the Bundesliga title with Bayern in his first season as well.

Who are we linked too at CB with a CV like this?

I'd take a crack at De Ligt, still young about to enter his prime and has european experience. Even if he doesn't reach his highs you know you'll get someone solid and has experienced it all. I'd try offering 30M Euros plus 5-10M in add-ons and see if Bayern are open to it. I don't know about Juve, but it sounds like some Bayern fans are mad that they're trying to get rid of him so I don't think he's that bad. We need one CB who's actually in his prime or about to enter it. Youth is great but we need guys who are actually ready to win now

I dont care about what he has done at Bayern and Juve. For a 24 year old with the talent level of De Ligt available for €50m, you'd be mad to not go in. Plus he's a RCB which is the core CB position hole we need to fill urgently. I say we do the deal.

Problem is he's on 250k/week, we don't need another very high earner with question marks over him

Loan with an obligation to buy once he hits various markers would be the best option for all.

50m Euros, which is around 42m GBP, this is according to Florian Plettenberg on Twitter
