Shenzhen FC v Manchester United, 23 July 2007, (KO 13.00 BST)

Smith has determination and bravery. However he isn't decisive enough in front of goal and doesn't offer anything Rooney doesn't.

right, anyone care to sum up the game (scorers, points of note) in 2 lines pls?

I hope those who have watched him in pre season will realise that he will play exactly the same way when the new season begins. Smith isnt gonna magically change the player he is.

confidence mate... forwards need a lot of it. in fact ole said that its the most important thing.

first he was converted to a cm, then the injury , then never a regular ...its hard

you rem how long it took rooney ? how many games he went without scoring ? the only difference is that rooney is a freeman of manchester (almost) and he was given a consistent run of games .

smith is not world class , but if we could afford to play him consistently he would be a much better player . honestly , he should've went out on loan but you cant beat the bravery out of this lad , he decided to stay .

Well I don't mind Smith. He's not amazing but he generally does a decent job as a fill in.

However, any player not named Rooney, Giggs or Ronaldo that are standing in Rossi's way can feck off as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry but even with confidence, my remarks stay the same. Even on his best form he is not a natural goal scorer and offers nothing that Rooney doesn't already offer. If Rooney wasn't around, Smith would have 'enough' to be considered a 'different option'.

Right now, all he is, is a Rooney-fill in that will never push him for a place in the starting lineup. And Rooney-Smith isn't a partnership that's going to win trophies year after year, so it's either or as far as I'm concerned.

I think it's time Smith moved on and became a regular at another club where he can push for an England spot.

There's a big difference in me saying what I think and you. It is a difference of experience and responsibility.

This is the matchday thread.

My experience being a lifelong local match going red, your experience being a fat yank who's never seen a game?

Your actually so full of shit, I never realised before. Don't criticise me for doing things that you do yourself :nono:

Dong is offside a lot.

He's been watching Inzaghi a lot lately.

I was called a cretin just because I rightfully pointed out how crap our worst player is. I've got a right to respond to unprovoked attacks like that.

Il Tulipo Nero is right, what do people in the Pro Smith camp see in him in terms of pure footballing ability? He might have the right mentality in that he is committed BUT he lacks the technical application

silvestre, smith (if we get carlos), dong - can all feck off in my opinion, that is if they don't start proving their worth

Silvestre is proving to be a very capable backup at both CB and LB, I say keep him especially with Heinze seemingly acting like an idiot with his Liverpool link

for us he could be good on the fringe , but inside i would feel bad for him.
i think he can do well as a first team regular

we need to let keano have him , smudger would inspire sunderland to play with the kind of commitment keano demands.

What a loser Smith is, he can't even do well against fecking Macau. People like O'Shea and Eagles who aren't strikers are fecking better goalthreats than the pathetic Leeds scummer.

shut the feck up, you are really begining to get on my bloody nerves with your constant bitching

This thread simply serves to highlight some of the absolute lunatics who call themselves Manchester United fans.

have you not watched him in lids united or for us when he just joined ?!
then he was converted to a cm , then the injury.
you are ignoring MASSIVE amounts of circumstances . you are wrong about him in terms of technical ability.

in the light of what i just said i completely agree - when he gets a proper run of games he will be back to his best. united cant afford to provide one , not after the summer we had.
smudge to sunderland !

Do you mean for Everton? Rooney scored a debut hat-trick for us and has never really gone that long without scoring.

Well, I think I'd rate him for a top 6 club. And if there was no such player as Rossi, I'd have no qualms with him being a backup for us. But Alan Smith is not the quality of player to let stand in the way of Rossi's development and he's too similar to our one constant (Rooney).

Whereas Tevez would at least offer free kicks/corners and Rossi offers quality finishing which sometimes Rooney lacks (probably the only thing), Smith just doesnt have anything that he's better at than Rooney that will make a difference in the game. Rooney is better than him at everything.
