Premiership
29 September 2007
KO 17:15 BST
St. Andrews

Just giving us some luck - we always win when I start the matchday thread

Can be a tough game at their home, remember their confidence is very high after drawing at Anfield

I wonder if Saha is going to start, or is SAF still in the phase of easing him back into the team. I won't mind another Rooney-Tevez pairing up front and Saha to come on later in the game.

Can Birmingham repeat what they did against Liverpool? I doubt it tbh...

our last game against birmingham was 0-0. terrible match that was, i remember in the last 20mins we had saha, ruud, rooney and smith all upfront but we still couldnt create a single chance

I agree, 442 with carrick and scholes in the middle...

Evra
Ronaldo
Carrick
Scholes
Giggs
Rooney
Tevez

Subs: PIG, Oshea, Hargreaves, Nani, Saha

2-0 to us. Tevez and Rooney with the goals. Here's hoping for another clean sheet.

I hope Saha will play, he's got an outstanding record against Birmingham at St Andrews for both us and Fulham. To be honest though I can see him starting on the bench again.

Team will most likely be:

GK: VDS

RB: Brown
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Carrick
CM: Scholes
LM: Giggs

CF: Rooney
CF: Tevez

I reckon even if fit we'll put Hargreaves on the bench, personally I'd put Giggs there as well in preparation for Roma on Tuesday.

I'm going with 0-1 to us, Saha coming off the bench to save us - AGAIN!

it would be great if we can thrash them. After so man 1-0 wins, time to click into a higher gear and to be honest, I can see that coming!!!

It's coming just dont expect it to be at a tough ground like St Andrews. Next week against Wigan seem far more likely

Don't think we'll need Van der Sar to be honest.

-------------------VDS------------------------
---Brown-----Ferdinand----Vidic---------Evra---
------------Scholes------Carrick---------------
--Ronaldo----------------------------Giggs----
-------------Rooney--------Saha--------------

That above (barring maybe Brown for Neville) is our most effective starting XI for the Premiership in my opinion.

I have this bizarre feeling that Saha won't start for us where he clearly should for these sort of games.

That should be the team

Tough one this. We've drawn on our last two league visits. But im not a pessimist so...0-3, Tevez in the goals again plus a Ronaldo double.

Saha is key for our hopes IMO, if he starts then the chances of an early goal and all that that brings are i believe, greatlu improved. If he does not, it will probably be one of those tension ridden games where we are fighting to find a goal out of somewhere in the last 20 or so minutes, though equally at the same time it is just when Birmingham start getting adventurous themselves.

If circmustaces allow, Hargreaves getting 20 mins to a half hour of game time would be of huge help with Tuesday in mind.

Yeah, that's the line up i too am hoping to see.

You wouldnt' have Hargreaves in your best possible XI for the league? Particularly against the better sides say?

For me it's more of a frustrating slightly concerned feeling, we don't help ourselves by not plyaing him. This line that Sir Alex is putting out, that we are simply easing Louis back into regular football...i dunno, not sure if i buy that. I reckon that it is also his tactical decision on the matter, not one that i agree with but hey. Only time will tell i suppose.

Hope Saha starts, bring Tevez on later.

I want the Tevez Rooney partnership to be allowed to grow. The only way that will work is by playing them together. At least that way if it doesn't click on Saturday, we have Saha on the bench.

But IMO we need Rooney/Tevez to work, as Saha will not be able to play every match this season, and judging from the way SAF has used him so far he knows that to. I think Saha will be used sparingly this season, probably mainly from the bench.

Really really hoping to see this on Saturday. About time we scored a few and this is the perfect match for that.

Its kind of sad that giving the amount of goals we know Saha can score he will remain on bench.
We are gonna suffer more to win games with Tevez upfront.
Hope Tevez starts to score more goals

Getting the Rooney-Tevez strike pairing to prosper [if it ever truly will] is a luxury we simply cannot afford at the present time. We need to build up some momentum and find our form, the best way we can go about achieving this IMO, is with Saha and Rooney leading our attack. Not only a matter of personnel but the team behaves differently, our game [at least as things stand now] has far more intesity to it, more of a lethality to our attacking play.

So, please Sir Alex, 4-4-2 and Louis up front on Saturday.

Nah but that's just me; i feel that Carrick and Scholes works fine. It's just that away from home we develop some sort of inferiority complex that we see in European away games.

Its not up to me though; me i'd start with a 4-4-2 virtually all the time if we're trying to go for a win, but its not up to me though. I suppose Hargreaves would be more of a good bet with teams who pack the central area and we need to compete for in midfield or have someone to man-mark. Probably against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. For everyone else, Carrick-Scholes would be my prefered choice. Home and away.

For that reason, I wanted Rooney and Tevez to have played the Carling cup game. So the partnership could grow.
