Birmingham City vs. Manchester United

The team that travels to Birmingham:

Man United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Pique, Evans, Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Scholes, Carrick, Eagles, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Tevez, Saha.

Good to see Hargreaves back in and around things

Fergie should play the strongest 11 tomorrow..

VDS
Brown Rio Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Scholes Carrick Giggs
Rooney Tevez

PIG, O'Shea, Hargreaves/Pique, Saha, Nani.

our last game against birmingham was 0-0. terrible match that was, i remember in the last 20mins we had saha, ruud, rooney and smith all upfront but we still couldnt create a single chance

That wasn't the last game. We last played them in March 2006 at OT, a 3-0 win. Earlier that season we drew 2-2 at St Andrews, a game we should have won, and there was a foul in the build up to their first goal. We also beat them 3-1 in the league cup that season.

The team that played at Chelsea for me, with Saha hopefully able to come on and grab some vital minutes in his road back to full fitness.

Owen Hargreaves could be on the bench for United's Barclays Premier League trip to Birmingham City on Saturday tea-time.

The midfielder has not featured since the 1-0 win over Sunderland at the beginning of this month after picking up a thigh strain whilst on international duty with England.

Sir Alex Ferguson says the 26-year-old has been training well over the last few days and may be included in the squad to face Steve Bruce's men.

"Owen has been doing very well in training and is a consideration for Saturday," revealed the manager at his pre-match press briefing. "He might be a sub or we might decide to hold him back for the Roma game."

Meanwhile, Gary Neville is edging ever closer to a return to action and could play his first match next week.

The Reds' skipper has endured a torrid time since damaging ankle ligaments in March. He has since picked up further minor knocks which have resulted in him missing the opening two months of the current campaign.

But there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel for the right-back.

"Gary is getting closer," insisted Sir Alex. "He has being doing very well in training and I'm hoping to pencil him in for a game at some point next week.

"There is a Reserves match against Liverpool the following week which would be a good introduction to a game situation."

Hope he plays tomorrow

Fergie being catious on his fitness then. Don't particularly need him with Carrick on form but hopefully he can make it to the bench and get a run about.

Feck, he's shite

Good strong squad we're taking to St Andrews. Best squad we've had this season.

I hope Saha will play, he's got an outstanding record against Birmingham at St Andrews for both us and Fulham. To be honest though I can see him starting on the bench again.

Team will most likely be:

GK: VDS

RB: Brown
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Carrick
CM: Scholes
LM: Giggs

CF: Rooney
CF: Tevez

I reckon even if fit we'll put Hargreaves on the bench, personally I'd put Giggs there as well in preparation for Roma on Tuesday.

I'm going with 0-1 to us, Saha coming off the bench to save us - AGAIN!

I think that's an important consideration.

I think SAF will either play his first choice team and look to sub some of the important players ASAP or drop a few of the important ones for Tuesday, against Roma.

However, after our dismal display in the Carling Cup, I doubt he'll take a chance so I reckon he'll play the full team.

There is no way we will rest anyone at this stage of the season. Players should'nt be tired. This is a big game, Liverpool and Arsenal both have tough games, and it may be an oppurtunity to capatilise.

So then the question you have to ask is, does our full strength team have Saha in it, in Fergie's eyes?

I and others say that it should, others not. *shrugs*We'll know soon enough.

I want the Tevez Rooney partnership to be allowed to grow. The only way that will work is by playing them together. At least that way if it doesn't click on Saturday, we have Saha on the bench.

But IMO we need Rooney/Tevez to work, as Saha will not be able to play every match this season, and judging from the way SAF has used him so far he knows that to. I think Saha will be used sparingly this season, probably mainly from the bench.

I agree with you. Look it, tevez scored on sunday against chelsea in his first game up front with rooney, I don't see any reason why we can't put 2 or 3 past birmingham. We certainly created the chnaces to put three or four past chelsea so why not birmingham. I would like to see saha come on in the 75th.

knowing SAF he will drop some of the important player. he always do that . For some reason SAF think the game is won in the last 20 minutes. Perhaps he is right.

After what United went through to get Tevez in the summer he will (IMHO), partner Rooney.

SAF is also now using Saha as a supersub.

but that supersub is a guaranty of goals if you put him from the start

Only for the time being, mainly for Saha to regain full fitness. I'd presume Saha and Tevez will both be rotated fairly when both are at 100% fitness.

Fergie has stated Saha is the key to success this season, with Tevez in the team now, we don't neccesarily need 90 minutes of Saha for most games which can benifit him as it limits the chances of him getting injured this season.

For anyone who saw the interview with SAF on MUTV he said in regards to Saha starting games it wont be too much longer

So dont expect him to start tomorrow but at least we know he will be starting games sooner or later

We all know how lethal Saha is, is just that Fergie doesn trust his fitness and its using him 20 minutes each game.
Saha is a monster when he is completely fit and on form

yeah, I think so as well, he'll be used with his tendency to get injured in mind, and I expcet SAF to use him more as a super-sub and in certain games as opposed to giving him consecutive starts so that his chances of getting injured are minimized as much as possible. Would love to see him injury-free for the rest of the season, he can prove to be our most important player if he manages to stay fit for that long.

But if that is indeed the case, then Fergie is guilty of the very same mental weakness over Saha's fitness, that Louis himself was accused of by some on here.

That's no way to carry on.

You don't usee your one and only No 9, and also the someone who with a run of games under his belt can be as lethal as we saw in the first six months of last season, as a "super-sub".

Maybe i just dont' have the faith in the Rooney-Tevez partnership of some of you, or tht it can click soon enough, but that's how i see it.

We didnt buy Tevez this summer as a bench warmer. He will most likely get as much games as Saha will. Rooney, as we all know, is a definite starter. So this leaves us with the question of if we field the three of them together or rotate Tevez and Saha. The latter will most likely happen, and it can be seen as a benifit to Saha anyway, since this will limit the chances of him getting injured.

It's not as "easy" as people seem to think, the whole idea that Birmingham will be able to shut us out just as Reading and a few others seemed to be able to do. We're by far the better side, and it's not like managers have just now, this season, figured a miracle-tactic that works against top teams. It's down to us. With Tevez getting a goal against Chelsea, he should be able to grow into the partnership with Rooney. Unless Saha plays, in which case he's odds on to get a goal or two.

Birmingham gave Chelski and Pool a very tough time despite playing away, so I expect them to do likewise especially playing at home, but we've got more than enough quality to hand them a good thrashing.

1-3 to United, with Rooney and Ronaldo getting on the score-sheet.

Its not just you, i still rate Saha more than Tevez, I think Fergie is trying to give Tevez the games and time to shine.
Hope Tevez start getting some goals cause that was the reason why we brought him.

"could be" will turn into "won't be", because Fergie becomes cautious, as he did with many other players. So we can expect him out of the bench. Probably will be used to train until the game afterwards this one.

it will be good to see Hargreaves get a few minutes under his belt and some match fitness if we're winning comfortably as he'll be needed for the CL game.

I'd like to see Rooney and Tevez both playing off Saha. This 4-2-3-1 works very well for us, and in my view, never have we had better personnel to pull it off effectively. The '3' should be Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez.

Remember giggsy having two brilliant goals against them in the 05-06 season, seems like longer ago, hope he can repeat the feat and find some form.
