Derby County vs. Manchester United

Absolutely no messing about,no getting bored or treating it like a training session. We have to go out and hammer the waekest side in the premier(possibly ever).I want no less than 10-0,every player should be looking to fill his boots with goals.we need to send out a message that from now on we mean business and we need to be thinking about goal difference.

10 - 0 is stretching it. We will batter them however, they'll be so mentally drained from the 6 - 1 thumping to Chelsea, having us as their next game must be so demoralizing. We usually create a lot of chances against good/decent opposition, so we should create even more against poorer opposition, lets hope we're clinical on Saturday.

This is a good start...

Derby boss Jewell: I might duck Man Utd game!

Derby County boss Paul Jewell admits he doesn't fancy facing Manchester United this weekend after last night's 6-1 mauling by Chelsea.

He said: "We were outclassed and outfought by a terrific Chelsea team. It was like the world heavyweight champion against an amateur lightweight.
"They did everything better than us. With 20 minutes to go I would have settled for six and of course it hurts when I'm sitting there squirming in my seat.
"The end of the season can't come quickly enough for us and the one consolation is that we have one less game to play. "But now we've got Manchester United next up on Saturday. I might not even turn up for that one!"

I think if they score first they could hold us to a 1-1 draw but otherwise i can only see us core 4 or 5 past them.

I don't think they'll score at all

Anyone else remember the last time we played Derby away? :nervous:

Ah well at least Malcom Christie aint there anymore....

Some facts from BBC before the game

Wayne ROONEY needs one goal to total 50 in the Premier League for Manchester United.

Derby have never managed a home victory over Manchester United in the Premier League. Their last maximum on home turf over the Red Devils was 2-0 in the old First Division on 26 August 1989.

United have secured 20 victories, dropped 20 points, scored 58 goals, at one every 43 minutes on average, and conceded 15, at one every 168 minutes (two hours 48 minutes) on average; the best in all four categories.

Why such a low score against a team who have conceded 63 goals in 29 games?

Because like me Nanison has probably been around the traps long enough to know it won't be an easy game.

Trust me when I say that when derby fans and players first got their league calanders this was the first home game they looked for.

It will be their cup final, rest assured that if there's one game a season they'll show up for it's this one. Their players also know they are on sunk ship and headed for the championship and for lower pay next season. What better way to draw the attention of premiership managers by having a blinder against Manchester United, the reigning league champions?

Our players on the other hand will have marked it off as three points already. The game will be more of an inconvience than anything else.

When one team raise there game and the other team lowers it, there will be only one outcome.

Personally I think it will end 1-1. With them scoring early and holding on and us getting an injury time goal to draw it.

Cue, tons of idiots from this thread who have, like our players, marked it off as a 5-0 victory, screaming like spoilt children when it happens as well.

Those of us who didn't come down in the last shower will not take this one for granted.

The only thing that may save us is the fact we lost our last game and Fergie will do everything to put us back on the right track.

Good point... though I'm going for 4-1.

First rule of playing rubbish opposition is don't jinks it by predicting a cricket score.

14th March 2008,

Manchester United are set to rest several big name players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Owen Hargreaves, Paul Scholes, Nani, Micheal Carrick, Patrice Evra, Wes Brown, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic against Derby on Saturday.

"We're going to leave most of the first team behind to rest" Ferguson said.

"I haven't finalised the squad yet, but Ronaldo and Rooney definitely won't be taking part. Neither will Rio and Vidic".

“Carrick, Hargo, Scholesy, Wes and Patrice are also due for a rest”.

United could also be without goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar who is still recovering from an injury suffered against Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

“Edwin will travel to Derby, but we'll only use him if he's a hundred percent. We have some important games coming up and now is not the time to take any risks".

Anderson is also out for nine months after tearing his ACL in training.

Foster
Neville O'Shea Pique Simpson
Eagles Park Fletcher Giggs
Welbeck Saha

Not the worst team in the world. Subs bench might be a bit thin though.

Vidic and Fergie backing Foster

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has tipped goalkeeper Ben Foster to make the most of his long-awaited debut on Saturday.

With only one reserve game behind him, he has been drafted in to face Derby at Pride Park as Edwin van der Sar has a groin problem and Tomasz Kuszczak is suspended.

Vidic has been impressed with Foster in training.

"Ben is a great player and a great man," said the Serbia international. "I think in the future he will be England's top goalkeeper.

"Ben has been training with us the last two weeks and done well.

"He looks as though he has never been injured. He is confident, which is important for a goalkeeper.

"I hope he has a good game at Derby and that we get the victory we want."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has firm belief in Foster, who has one England cap to his name, to do a job after planning to send him out on loan before two of his goalkeepers were sidelined.

He said: "Ben has been out for a year and this is a big challenge for the boy.

"Certain things, though, about him encourage me. He has fantastic presence and speed and agility. I have no fears about him being okay."

United could take overtake Arsenal at the top of the table for a few hours at least.

Ferguson has been impressed with the way the players have responded to the FA Cup defeat against Portsmouth last weekend.

However, he is refusing to take anything for granted against a Derby side that have failed to win in their last 23 league games.

Ferguson said: "You have to react when you lose a match. It is part of football.

"It is important to do something about it. We have 10 league games left and need to motor on.

"We have to make sure we put in a good performance and get the result we need.

"Points will be dropped between now and the end of the season by all clubs but if we go on a consistent run we will have a better chance of success."

Meanwhile, Ferguson is delighted defender Gary Neville came through another reserve game in midweek unscathed after a year-long absence with an ankle problem.

"Gary showed good energy and speed," said the United boss. "He came through the game well.

"The great thing is he played for 75 minutes with no problems and that is important.

"I think he will be involved in the first team quite soon."

Hopefully Rooney and/or Tevez score. We could really use at least one of them going on a scoring spree. I'll throw my lot in with the boring bastards who will settle for a 1-0 win though. We've slipped up too many times against shit opposition to take anything for granted.

You don't actually believe that we won't win, you are just tempering your own expectations, protecting yourself from dissapointment. whislt it is obviously possible that we won't win, if forced to bet your house on it you would go for a Utd win...

the 2/2 result at Derby in 01/2002 season shows nothing can be granted, i still remember their GK that game Oakes - had the game of his life-

Given the squad guestimated by some above, and if he is indeed to rest Vida, Rio, Ronaldo, Rooney, Evra. I do not think Man United can win without none of them in the team.

I still doubt that would be the lineup (with Simpson, Pique and co protecting) but with such a back four protecting an out of match sharp Ben, a win is not guaranteed. Plus Man United is never known for killing team in 20th position consistently enough are they?
Derby can loose to Chelsea 6-1, 6-0 to liverpool. But against Man United, everyone raises their game and it could turn out to be a shock if they(derby) are taken very lightly.
