Berbatov

The Daily Mail and The Sun both running with the same story? Maybe there's some truth in it unfortunately.

If The Sun are being accurate (massive "if" there) then United have just made an opening bid of 20m. God knows how much Spurs would actually hike a final fee up to, 25m+ at least.

I'm hoping this is bullshit. He's not the player we need, and the price could end being huge by the time Spurs are through.

The only good thing I would see about this is that Spurs would surely not sell Keane if they considered selling Berbatov. I really don't want to see Keane at Liverpool.

I rate Keane but I'd rather Liverpool buy him than buy David Villa.

spurs are not twats so sell both there forwards to us and liverpool.

Great if true. Berbs is the best we could sign as Benzema is not going anywhere.

Let's seal our squad for this season as soon as possible.

Right, let's teka these new rumorus on face value for the sake of argument.

As it stands we are the only club to have shown such serious interest which plays in our favour, on the other hand they might be losing Keane too, they'll be looking to fund replacements and then some.

24ish million with all the usual conditions and so forth is what i could see them squeezing out of us. Opening payment of 8-10m perhaps.

How would people feel about those figures?

is this the new Tevez and new Ronaldo thread?

f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p f*a*p

I'm fecking drooling at the prospect of Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov forming a front 3, or one of Rooney/Tevez playing off Berbs. The guy is sensational, absolutely awesome, probably my favourite non-Utd player. If this comes off, it'll go some way to making the double Portuguese loss (if the 2nd one happens) feel much less of a blow to our chances.

i've changed my attitude towards berbatov. i fully support our efforts to get him and hope we can conclude this in the next week or so, so he can come in and get that understanding with wazza and tev.

with ronny being out for a while, i think we could see a front three of berbatov, wazza and tevez, with hargreaves, carrick, and scholes in midfield.

Is that a yes?? Thought i might have been banned for saying something thats been said to me at least 4 or 5 times on here.....

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been a keen admirer of the Bulgarian international for some time now, and is hopeful of wrapping the deal up within the next week.

Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov subject of bid from Manchester United
Unsettled: Dimitar Berbatov wants Champions League football

However, United's interest poses a dilemma for Spurs. While the sale of Berbatov would obviously free up greater funds for Juande Ramos to strengthen his squad, it also means all three of the club's leading strikers are now the subject of serious interest from rival Premier League teams.

Liverpool are hopeful of bringing Robbie Keane to Anfield, while Darren Bent has been linked with Sunderland.

Of the three, Berbatov seems the most likely to depart White Hart Lane and United are convinced the prospect of regular Champions League football and an £80,000-a-week pay packet will prove decisive.

Tottenham bought Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 for £10.9m, since when the 27-year-old has scored 46 goals in two season for the north London club.

He is known, though, to be difficult to manage. He fell out with Martin Jol prior to the Dutchman's departure and he has failed to impress Ramos with his attitude.

Spurs chairman Denial Levy slapped a £30m price tag on the Bulgarian when United first expressed an interest last season and, as such, Ferguson's £20m bid has raised a few eyebrows.

However, Ramos has already spent big since his arrival from Sevilla, with more than £50m splashed out on Luka Modric, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Hutton, Heurelho Gomes, Giovanni Dos Santos, Chris Gunter, Gilberto and John Bostock.

Spurs are also in the hunt for £11m-rated Espanyol striker Luis Garcia and could be tempted by a player-plus-£20m offer for Berbatov, especially as the forward is known to want to leave.

Berbatov's agent, Emil Dantchev, said: "I cannot make any comment until there is official confirmation from Tottenham or United."

United Make Berba Bid
Saturday 12 Jul 2008

Manchester United are understood to have made a £20million bid for Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian striker was linked with a White Hart Lane exit throughout last season, but stayed until the end of the campaign.

The talk has continued, however, and it is understood Sir Alex Ferguson offered £20million for him last night.

United are thought to be ready to match his wage demands of £80,000-a-week.

Ferguson wants the deal done by the end of next week, but it is understood that Spurs will not let Berbatov leave for less than £30million.

Will be more than enough replacement for Cristiano. We have to reorganize our front line a bit, but that means Rooney will play in his natural position.

Still dont think ronnie is leaving just yet, but if he does i think we'll look to compensate for his loss by reverting to a more traditional 2 man strike force on more occassions than we do at present.

I hope the cnut leaves. he's crossed the line

Dippers thats too much. You're one of the few posters i respect on here but i cant be having that. You're saying his desire to leave completely overrides all the joy and the special moments never mind the trophies he's given us for what 5 years or whatever??? No chance.

The guy is portugese. To the average portugeezer madrid will always be above man utd. Just like if madrid had aquired rooney at say 17 id be confident we'd be able to turn his head at some stage because of that british connection.

Its dispicable people can turn on someone so quickly simply because he may want a move. A move he's touted from day 1. He's also signed a long term deal meaning that if he does leave we'll get an outrageously good deal because we are in a strong position. Its not like he's done an owen or campbell and left us shafted. We have all the power here.

I struggle to understand utd fans turning against the guy. in fact it makes my blood boil.

He called us slave masters. My opinion was completely neutral until I saw that interview.

It was always bound to happen, he's fecking quality and we'll get the best out of Rooney as well.

Look, I'm pissed off at Ronaldo for not showing us enough respect and I was a real fan of his as long as he was at United. I too am annoyed that he wants to leave and the manner in which this whole saga has played out but he did NOT say that. The Sun and SSN ran the story that Ronaldo called himself a slave, but he agreed with what Blatter said about his situation directly - no way did he or would he agree with that. Just very desperate journalism and completely put words in his mouth.

Not defending Ronaldo here, I'm pissed off at him for all this too but he did not call himself a "slave".

If your paying that sort of money, Berbatov is the obvious choice.

Sometimes you have to say, was he value for money after the event, because if we're successful and he's apart of it then it's all paying for itself.

He'll be a crowd pleaser theres no question about that and would give unbelievable options.

that fool blatter called us slave whatever.

he said he agreed with what the fifa president said. im sure he'd be the first to say he's had excellent conditions at utd.

He agreed with blatter who said united are enslaving Ronaldo. What more do you want?
