There's been a few rumours appearing this week that we've agreed a deal.

who's the blonde twat?

I'd be happy with berbatov, the thought of him mincing around the pitch isn't too pleasant but he's so creative and classy, think the likes of Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo will love playing off him

Sign him or leave the club, Ferguson.

The arrival of Berbs could mean Tevez been on the bench. Surely you have consider that also, dont you?

This has been discussed many a time in this thread already... But to clear things up;

- There would be times when all 4 of our starting forwards could start something ike this -

---carrick - anderson---
ronaldo - rooney - tevez
---------berbatov---------

the 3 floaters behind berba would alternate, and even berba, adding to our fluid attack, tevez or rooney wouldnt get stuck on the wings because it isnt a fixed formation, and our full backs seem to act as wingers these days.

- Then there would be the times where players would miss games through injuries, loss of form, bans and fatigue

- There are over 2 games a week and it would be ideal for keeping players fresh, they would all be getting a game once a week at least

- If one had to sit out against stronger teams where we need a more defensive midfield unit then they would alternate the bench role based on the opposition and other factors

It would work and isnt a problem. We only have 2 'strikers' we defiantly need top quality options to keep the competition for places rife, and a 3rd top quality player like berba would be delightful as he would also fill a role in the side that we dont currently have.

Precisely, as relayed to many people on this forum an infinite amount of times.

We are not buying a bench warmer!

I can't see how this very simple point evades people.

Where did it come from?

Who coined it?

Seriously, we started our best eleven once last season, once. That was in the final.

It is a squad game!

I'm shocked this keeps popping up, it's like that arcade game where the crabs or moles pop up and you have to bash them, to keep the feckers down and win you need two people with very big fists.

LoL agreed

A Spuds supporting mate of mine reckons that Berba is desparate for the move to us but is getting fecked off with waiting around. Apparently if we don't get a move on then it's off anyway.

Man Utd encouraged to go for Tottenham's Berbatov
tribalfootball.com - July 10, 2008

Manchester United are set to step up their bid for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov.
With reports today that Spurs have struck terms for Espanyol centre-forward Luis Garcia, it will be seen as a green light by United to try again for Berbatov.

After experiencing frustration over the situations of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Queiroz, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will welcome the chance to excite fans this summer with a bid for long-term target Berbatov.

Berbatov wants to leave, maybe Blatter can help us out and make a statement. ;)

He's clearly been treated like a slave at Spurs as he has been denied the oppurtunity to play Champions League football

I think he would be the one i'd go for. Just because I think the best is yet to come and he has experience

with the players we have, it'd be the best dynamic. People talk about options but we have options all over. We'll see...-been saying that all summer-

The Sun say we've bid 20m for him.

I don't want Berbatov at Old Trafford so I hope this is not true. This week is just getting worse and worse as regards United.

Most likely just more tabloid bull after the Hunterlaar thing has died down. Back to Berbatov storys.

EXCLUSIVE: Get Berbatov - Fergie puts £20m on table for Spurs ace
By MATT LAWTON Last updated at 11:17 PM on 11th July 2008

Manchester United have bid more than £20million for Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov in their first major move of the summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of the 27-year-old Bulgaria striker and wants to add him to his European and domestic Double-winning attack.

Armchair fans to start with a TV feast as Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Liverpool are live during first weekend
Far from being a signing to ease the possible loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, the manager is interested only in strengthening his side and remains determined to keep the Portugal winger at Old Trafford.

It is a view shared by both the club-owning Glazer family and chief executive David Gill, who have now granted Ferguson's transfer-spending wish by taking the first serious step in trying to lure Berbatov from Spurs.

The bid poses an interesting problem for Spurs, with all three of their leading strikers now the subject of serious interest from rivals in the Barclays Premier League.

Rafa Benitez expressed his desire this week to take Robbie Keane to Liverpool following Peter Crouch's departure to Portsmouth, while Sunderland are pursuing Darren Bent after Kenwyne Jones was ruled out for the rest of the year with a knee injury.

Tottenham have made no secret of what they consider a fair price for Berbatov. Daniel Levy, their hard-nosed chairman, has made it clear he wants at least £30m but United have started the bidding at a significantly lower level.

In their favour is a desire from the player to move to Old Trafford. He cleared his locker at the Spurs training ground at the end of last season and expected to have moved by now.

It was embarrassing for Berbatov to have to return for pre-season training after no formal bids were lodged and he can be expected to push hard for a move.

His agent Emil Dantchev claimed the striker wanted a transfer in the January window and is hungry for Champions League football.

Tottenham appear resigned to his departure, with manager Juande Ramos having admitted in May that he could not change Berbatov's mind about his future.

Spurs will drive a hard bargain and are expected to ask for £25m plus a player but should be willing to negotiate. Ramos is known to be disappointed that his squad restructuring is not at a more advanced stage for preseason fitness work, despite the arrivals of Luca Modric and Giovanni dos Santos.

He also needs to raise more funds, with Espanyol striker Luis Garcia a £9.5m target. Since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9m in July 2006, Berbatov has scored 46 goals in 91 appearances. He has also scored 28 goals in 47 games for Bulgaria.

If the deal goes through United will have a strikeforce of Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Berbatov which would be the envy of world football.

Meanwhile, French midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed the role Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira played in persuading him to move to The Emirates.

Nasri, 21, finally completed a £12m move from Marseille yesterday. He said: 'I know Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira very well and they have told me a lot of good things about Arsenal. They both had amazing times at this club and even talking to them now, they are still very enthusiastic about Arsenal.

'Both Thierry and Patrick told me that it was the best choice for me to come to Arsenal.'

Former Arsenal skipper Gilberto Silva has agreed personal terms for a £1m move to Panathinaikos in Greece, and Nasri's arrival will also pave the way for Alexander Hleb's departure, with a £14.5m move to Barcelona imminent.

But Barca's chances of landing Emmanuel Adebayor have suffered a blow with the re-emergence of AC Milan in the race to sign the Togo striker. Milan are understood to have topped Barca's most recent bid of £24m by an extra £5m.

The Daily Mail and The Sun both running with the same story? Maybe there's some truth in it unfortunately.

If The Sun are being accurate (massive "if" there) then United have just made an opening bid of 20m. God knows how much Spurs would actually hike a final fee up to, 25m+ at least.

I'm hoping this is bullshit. He's not the player we need, and the price could end being huge by the time Spurs are through.

The only good thing I would see about this is that Spurs would surely not sell Keane if they considered selling Berbatov. I really don't want to see Keane at Liverpool.

why is this unfortunate, surely you mean fortunately? what is wrong with the acquisition of berbatov??

He's another number 10/second striker like Rooney and Tevez. We need a Saha-type who is not made of glass.

His attitude stinks.

Spurs will run United through the mill in any transfer negotiations, like they did with Carrick.

i have a feeling of joy, im sure u doubters and people who arent for this transfer will soon change your tone when he arrives and starts showing what he is all about.

But look what came of signing carrick - 2 premierships and a champions league, 18 mill was a snip really, he was integral to it all.

His attitude does`nt stink its a myth

He is not a number 10, he is just as capable at playing number 10 as he is playing the out an out striker, ask any spurs fan or leverkusen fan. He is not a number 10, `but his eloquence and all round ability lets him excel where ever he plays and so this is a false judgment. I can assure you he will be a success if he signs

United's £20m Berbatov Bid

MANCHESTER UNITED tabled an official £20million bid for Tottenham strike star Dimitar Berbatov last night.

And Alex Ferguson expects to wrap up the deal within the next week after making his opening offer.

The United boss is in the market for a proven Premier League goalscorer to play alongside Wayne Rooney next season.

Berbatov has been top of Fergie’s wanted list all year and now he has turned his interest into a hard cash bid.

United are convinced they can lure the Bulgarian to Old Trafford with the promise of Champions League football and an £80,000- a-week pay packet.

Berbatov, 27, is keen to move on to bigger things after two years at White Hart Lane.

He was a £10.9m signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 and has scored 46 goals in two seasons with Spurs.

But he fell out with Martin Jol last season and has failed to impress new boss Juande Ramos with his attitude.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy slapped a £30m price tag on Berbatov when Fergie and United came sniffing in the January window.

But Ramos has already splashed more than £50m this year on Luka Modric, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Hutton, Heurelho Gomes, Giovani Dos Santos, Chris Gunter, Gilberto and John Bostock.

And Spurs need funds to finance their £11m move for Espanyol striker Luis Garcia.

They will try to prise a few more million out of United before finally agreeing to sell fans’ favourite Berbatov.

But Ramos has given his blessing.

Emil Dantchev, Berbatov’s agent, said: “I cannot make any comment until there is official confirmation from Tottenham or United.”
