fecking ridiculous.
I feel sick.
Why?
fecking ridiculous.
I feel sick.
no, what's that?Ever heard of assists?
cheers, that makes sense. but what is this "as-sist" you mention? For all talking about productivity there was an OPTA stats thing on SSN that showed when Assists and Goals were put together for all players in the league over the last two seasons Ronaldo, Rooney then Berbatov were the top three. I cant be arsed finding it though.![]()
I kind of expect that also. Especially since it is in the big games that we need someone upfront who can win the ball in the air and hold onto it, which is why we pushed Ronaldo upfront at times.I concur....but i think berbatov would be starting the big games by the end of the season because he offers something neither rooney nor tevez do.
I'll wait until I know how much we got.... Glaston, from your POV, do you think this is good business for Spurs?
it could happen.
He won't get the number 7, even if Ronaldo leaves, we need a top quality replacement and i would suspect that he would get that shirt. 7 has too much history, there are a long line of great wide men to have worn that shirt.
He will be no9 if Saha leaves.
King - fitness issues aside.who would you say your best player is Glaston?

I could be wrong, but I believe Hargreaves was.Last year when a number of big money deals were agreed none were paid up front, why would this be any different?

Just imagine the counter-attacks we will unleash with Berbatov upfront and Rooney and Ronaldo charging onto his through balls.![]()

This could be different because of two things. Firstly, Spurs may be demanding that it's all payed upfront (the fact they would prefer to keep him means they can do this). Or secondly, rather than playing 18m now and another 10m next season we may just pay 25m now. Those figures are completely made up, but paying everything straight up would generally save money in the long-run. Kind of like taking out a loan, if you have the money it's better to pay straight up as you'll ultimately pay less.
Obviously it's a different case when the player is an unproven youngster like Anderson and Nani, as a lot of the money is made up of clauses based on how successful they actually are. These clauses are much rarer when it comes to older established players.
King - fitness issues aside.
He's currently training intensively with the rest of the squad in Spain and says he's fully recovered from his op and ready to take a full part in this coming season. If true, and my confidence levels are growing that it is true, it'll be like the best new signing we could possibly have made.
No@Glaston: Do you have some kind of stat which shows how many of his goals were scored using his head - last season?
15 in all competitions, same as the season before that.@Also how many assists did he get last season?
Yes, my bet is we'll mainly play with just one up front and 5 in midfield.Hutton Woodgate King Bale is a great looking backline on paper. How about all this talk of Ramos favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation. You buy into that?
Yes. Like Bryan Robson and Eric Cantona.

Only scored one goal against the Top 10 last year, hmm.
We're the ony ones in the bidding for crying out loud. I know Fergie was interested and it was likely we'd sign him but we could have got a better deal than that surely. It's one thing paying over the odds because of market conditions and because of perception, but a whole different matter when you add to it all yourself.
A Spurs fan i know has thanked us.
There have been a lot dodgy rumours swirling about re. King. He's says they're all bollocks - that's good enough for me to be going on with.I was out drinking with a Spurs mate on Saturday night and he reckons that he's heard that its unlikely that Kings knee issues will allow him to play more than one game a week. Any truth in that mate?....
Agreed - a lot of people have forgotten (just because he hasn't played much the last 2 seasons) just how good he is.For me King is one of the best Centre backs in Europe.
Would be hilarious.
CR27 has a nice ring to it though.
Very credible.Glaston, there's not much information in the papers at the moment about the deal being agreed. How credible do you think is the info you got?
Very credible.
For those saying Eto'o would've been better, he's the same age as Berbatov and because he relies much more on pace and explosiveness he almost certainly wouldn't play on as long as Berbatov will. Hell, there have already been signs over the last two seasons that his body is starting to struggle with the load put on it, very much like Henry was in his last season or two at Arsenal. At his best he was fantastic, but he's on the decline right now. Whereas I would say Berbatov will at least stay at his current level, if not improve further, for at least four more seasons.
Also, Eto'o would be more likely to cause trouble if he wasn't starting. He'd demand to be up there with Rooney and Ronaldo as almost certain starters when fit, whereas Berbatov would be happy to be in the Tevez catergory. Starting most games, but still coming off the bench a bit more often.
I think taking the number 7 off Ronaldo, if he stays and giving it Berbatov, would be a bit too much. We have all seen him when he doesn't get a free-kick. The tantrum he would have, would be epic.
Yes, it was fairly inevitable. I kind of answered part of this a few posts ago, saying:I see. How do you feel then about losing one of your best players? Did you view this as inevitable? Who do you think can replace him, does Ramos need to sign any striker at all?
Yes, it was fairly inevitable. I kind of answered part of this a few posts ago, saying:
"Lots of Spurs fans will doubtless call it bad business, because we've just sold our 2nd best player. But if a player wants to leave, there's not much point in forcing him to stay in my view. Far better to sign a motivated replacement and move on.
We'll now have a ton of money to spend on other players. At the end of this transfer window the Spurs starting XI - Berbatov or no Berbatov - is going to look pretty strong IMO.
Watch this space"
I think we're going to play mainly with one up front - someone quick and forward-facing would be the Ramos mould. Bent is one player of that type (and he mainly played up front alone with Charlton, scoring hatfuls) and so now he'll have the chance come into his own at Spurs and the wisdom of us buying him last summer will start to become more apparent (the club knew Berbatov was likely off this summer even then).
Bent, with a quality 5 -man midfield to supply him from centre, left and right (Bentley maybe, plus Modric and Dos Santos as attacking mids for example), would doubtless bang in plenty.
But I also think we'll sign a competitor for Bent in that role - there are several possibilties in the frame (mentioning no names) and things will likely move quickly now.
It actually wouldn't suprise me if we also sold Keane - now that his strike partner (Berbatov) has gone perhaps Ramos would rather have the apparent 20m (?) for Keane and spend the cash on a striker more suited to his tactical plans.
King, fitnesss issues aside (and he says they now are).Lots of Spurs fans will doubtless call it bad business, because we've just sold our 2nd best player
Who is your best player then Glaston. Keane?

Not as a person, and not as consistently as Berbatov.
I think Eto'o has gone off the boil actually, i wasn't impressed with him this year.

Yup - he's a very good player, but playing with Berbatov really helped him shine.Keane flourished behind Berbatov, do you agree?
Maybe - or maybe someone super-suprising.. Diego Milito is somebody that i think will be in the running, maybe even Huntelaar.
