I'm the crawling king snake and I rule my den.
Do you think we'll see him appear a few more times this season?

He's clearly a great talent and it's good to see players like that playing regularly for the first team. Great strike today, his confidence will be sky high. Personally, I think he'll play a few more games this season but probably on the wing rather than up top unless we're really struggling with injuries.

I expect to see him in the Carling Cup, and also to come on in a few games which we're winning comfortably.

I rate him, great prospect.

Wellbeck reminds me of Kanu.

Any one been following Perucci in the youth team?

Seems we have some great young strikers.

Looks a good prospect to me. Always good to see a local lad coming through as well especially with the likes of Neville, Scholes etc coming to the end of their careers.

I think Petrucci has been playing a little deeper, but Macheda looks to be a quality striker from what I've seen. Hope they both make it, and Welbeck of course.

I wouldn't bet against any of them becoming first team players but then again you never know what's going to happen.

It's hard to say, because of Manucho (they're both the forth striker you could say) but he'll get his chance in the cup hopefully.

He could be played somewhere else but with Park playing well, Nani, Ronaldo, Anderson an option too - it'll be very, very difficult

But the goal will have done him the world of good

After his goal today where does this leave Manucho? Especially with Campbell (who can't stop scoring at the moment) back next season.

I think we'll sell Campbell tbh.

His dance celebration was gay as feck though.

Great goal BTW.

one goal doesn't change manucho's situation....

Additionally as good as campbell is doing for spurs right now - there is a difference playing for spurs and playing for manchester united.

Manucho has played so few games, he really needs to work on his fitness and he could do with a goal - even if it's in the reserves to get him up and running

Interesting to see how Fergie plays this one. There's so much depth up top now. Realistically, we've had trouble getting Tevez onto the scene when Rooney has been fit.

Welbeck and co's chances may well be based on how well the team perform - advancing in the cups and being up a few goals in certain games. If we don't advance do you think there is a possibility of him going on loan for a while come Jan? I think he has the best chance out of the current youngsters, it would be great if he just came in and starting performing a la Rafael.

Welbeck will save us £25 million (not Tevez though)

Just as Evans will save us lots of money.

This is the benefit of a youth system.

Query: Did we buy Evans as a youngster?

The 7 substitute rule is very good for players like Welbeck and Manucho.

I think it's more likely we'll see him wide of a front three, than as a true winger.

He looked extremely lively in the last 2 fights. Then he goes and scores an absolute screamer today. He will get a lot more appearances this season. If we get a positive result against Villareal then I'd expect him to feature agaisnt Aalborg.

Welbeck sure looks like a cracking talent.

He changed the game when he came on against QPR, he seemed to give us a lift. Today he looked very creative, he seems as comfortable on the wing as he does leading the line.

I honestly believe that as Danny fills out he will become even better, a little bit more mass to utilise in contesting headers and when jockeying for the ball. He is very much like Kanu in terms of close control, but he seems to have a decent turn of foot and also a desire to force the issue and chase lost causes.

Certainly fills me with excitement.

Saw his goal from a better angle on MOTD, stunning strike.

His goal today reminded me of Rooney's for Everton against Arsenal. Not the actual position or angle he scored it from, but the sheer confidence in smashing it in from so far out.

With that goal he's essentially bought himself a few years of chances in the first team. He's already proven he's capable of something special and the least he should be aiming for is our 4th striker position for the next few years.

Could very well mean that Campbell leaves in the summer though. We'll either take up our option on Tevez or bring another experienced player in instead of him. That leaves enough games for either Welbeck or Campbell, but surely not both.

He played as an attacking midfielder (winger). He can be our fourth winger.

Amazing talent. Great goal with a bit of luck IMO.

What was lucky about it?

He can play as a winger and will probably play that position a few times, but up front is his natural position and where his future lies IMO.

2 of our young players have scored right fecking belters these past 2 games. First Rafael vs Arse and then today. It's not so much the fantastic ability it's the confidence of whacking in goals like that.

That and with Campbells scousebashing and following it up with a goal today, it makes me well fecking excited.

Great time to be a united fan, reminds me of Scholes n Beckham and Neville coming through...especially with Evans, and the prospect of Fabio still to come :)

Totally agree it is very exciting times for the future. The emmerging talent is something special.

So is Fabio as good as Rafael?

They seemed similar from what I can remember of pre season (skills wise, they look completely different), although there was probably only Rafael on the field and I was thinking there was 2 of the feckers coz he's all over the field :)

Fabio is said to be the better of the two. Was the Brazil under 17 captain and I believe he scored 7 from left back in the u17's world cup.

He seems as explosive as Rafael in attack and as committed in the tackle too. It is a frightening thought to think we could have one on either flank.

That goal had as much 'luck' as Scholes' goal against Barca. He hit it well and true.

You can see where he's coming from, Scholes' strike just oozed class and we've gotten used to seeing Scholes do that over the years whereas the way Welbeck hit it he looked off balance, but that's just how he plays.

Great goal.

The boy's a local lad and a bit special. Obviously at 17 it's just the simple things you're looking for but he's got more than that. Apart from the brilliant goal, today the thing I loved was that he was just absolutely desperate to get on the pitch. The fourth official had to pull him back to stop him going on before the player he replaced came off! Don't know if the telly got that shot but it was brilliant. Loads of potential. Shortly after he scored, the Stretford started singing "We'll never die" and I got a bit emotional old git that I am. That's a song for the Babes and Wellbeck might just fit into that legacy. Fingers crossed.

I'd agree it did look a tiny bit un-natural and so maybe a tiny bit lucky. But nobody said that was a bad thing... Luck is a fantastic thing for a footballer to have. Ask Lampard.

There's a few of his reserve goals on youtube and I think that's just his style...

the lanky fecker

Wellbeck reminds me of Kanu.
The ball seems to stick to his feet as he sort of sweeps it along - very much like Kanu. Similar build too.

I hate to be a contrarian, but a third of the way into the season it's gotten them each a twenty minute cameo. They're on pace to play an hour of Premiership football this year. Good for muppets like me who want to see the whole squad wear the shirt at some point during the season, but not that significant to a player's development.

There's a lot at stake in premiership games and todays probably the 1st game we've been comfortable enough to stick some youngsters on. He was given a chance today and he took it, which will lead to more chances you'd imagine...

The reason they haven't featured before now was because Welbeck missed most of pre-season with injury and Manucho is still finding his feet in English football and has also only just recovered from a long-term injury.

Until today, they'd only played a handful of reserve games between them, all season. From here on in, they should feature much more frequently.

Don't understand people saying it was luck. WUMs.

He meant to hit it hard, with the outside of the right foot, and it was meant to end up in the top right hand corner.

It DID end up being hit hard, and it ended up swerving and nestled in the top right hand corner.

Was the luck that he did exactly what he intended. But then you could say that ANY fantastic goal was luck. For starts - Giggs goal vs Arsenal in 99 was luck, or Beckham's half-way line goal was luck.

Get a life people!

Bit puzzled by that too. And by people saying he was off-balance. His first couple of touches were a bit ungainly but he struck the ball with absolutely perfect technique, head over the ball, lovely balance.

Just an absolute peach of a strike
