Villarreal CF vs. Manchester United

I'd swap Manucho for Wellbeck, and Park for Fletcher, and end up with an equally unlikely line up that I'd quite like to see.

I put manucho in there cus hes a tall strong centreforward who would benefit rooney and tevez. wouldnt mind if welbeck got a run out though, thought fletcher was still injured?

Isn't either Manucho or Welbeck not on United's squad list for the European group stages

-------VDS
Rafael-Rio-Vidic-Evra
--Carrick--Fletcher--
-----Anderson------
Nani-----------Park
------Rooney-------

1-1 Nani and Joe the red to score

Anyone fit of this lads? -> Ronaldo, Berbatov, Scholes, Hargreaves, Fletcher, Neville, Brown, Fabio

I would give Rio and VDS a break for this one and go for this team.......

--------------------- Kuszczak --------------------
Rafael ------- Vidic -------------- Evans ------ Evra
Park -------- Carrick ----------- Anderson ----- Nani
------------- Rooney ----------- Tevez ------------

Bench: Foster, O´Shea, Possebon, Gibson, Giggs, Welbeck, Manucho

Hargreaves is out for the season Sean; Brown out for the year

Yes please

We may need to take a few risks with the first team to ensure that we give some players a rest before we play City at the weekend.

Fletcher ------ Carrick ------- Anderson ----- Nani

Pray that Fletcher is fit! Its pretty tempting to give Wellbeck a chance and give Rooney a rest, but both Rooney and Tevez need to play through this bad form.

According to betfair, Fletcher and Ronaldo were back in training yesterday, and I agree with their assessment that Ronaldo's likely to be left out.
http://www.clubcall.com/manchester-united/united-pair-villarreal-frame-817647.html <--- old news now, shouldn't have gone for coffee mid post

And I'd put Wellbeck before Manucho as when Rooney and Tevez play together the goals usually come from elsewhere and to me Wellbeck's more likely to be the elsewhere.

Give Ronaldo, Rio and van der Sar a rest.

Take Rooney and Carrick off after 60 mins, whatever the score.

Start with:

Foster
Rafael - Evans - Vidic - Evra
Nani - Carrick - Anderson - Giggs
Rooney - Tevez

No Van Der Sar, Neville, Welbeck or Berbatov

Travelling Squad: Foster, Kuszczak; Evra, Rafael, O'Shea, J.Evans, Ferdinand, Vidic; Fletcher, Possebon, Anderson, Carrick, Ronaldo, Park, Nani, Gibson, Giggs; Rooney, Tevez, Manucho.

no need to win

a full strength squad would be retarded, rest for subjecting city to a bumming on sunday

Anyone else have a don't give a feck about this match feeling?

Nothing wrong with being a bit cynical once in awhile. If I watch the match I'd have to sleep at 5.30am and get ready for a day of work and school by 8am.

I was surprised Welbeck's not in the squad, preferring Manucho.
I foresee a bore-draw, probably goal-less

If i remember right, we were in a similar situation in the CL some years back [a draw would do for both sides], against Valencia i believe or maybe it was Deportivo, and we played out a reasonably tame 0-0.

Be no surprise if we ended up with such an outcome tomorrow.

I was gonna say this match will be up there with the (soon-to-be) dead rubber game against Aalborg in terms of importance, but then I'll realize we'll get a chance to see Rossi vs Rafael (sort of), so that will be very exciting.

Welbeck has a knock doesn't he? Or is he just not going. The black pele needs some pitch time in all fairness to him.

He will be on the highlight reel alright... being nutmegged the most times in a match by a single player (Rafael).

i fecking love the champions league.

my team:

Kuszsack
O'Shea
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Anderson
Carrick
Fletcher

Giggs
Tevez

Aye, that works for me. Maybe stick Ronaldo up front though, instead of Tevez.

Don;t you mean "providing" Fletcher is back, rather than "unless"?

My team, not what I think we'll play.

Foster
Rafael
Evra
Ferdinand
Vidic

Fletcher
Carrick
Anderson

Nani
Rooney
Ronaldo

I'm tempted to maybe drop Anderson to the bench and put Tevez up front. But he was really poor against Villa and having that extra man in midfield should help us.

Hoping for a good game, and a bloody goal would be nice!

on the match:

Tomasz Kuszczak will play instead of the rested Edwin van der Sar in goal but, even with Dimitar Berbatov, Paul Scholes, Owen Hargreaves, Wes Brown and Gary Neville injured, the United manager says he is not tempted to ring wholesale changes. "The derby doesn't come into my thinking," he said. "We want to win and to win the group."

ya good spot on i had park in and "unless" but then vhanged the team and not the sentence :nervous:

Tevez and Nani must play.

Awesome that Rafael is going to play.

Lets hope that MANUCHO is unleashed tonight

----------- Foster---------------
Rafael - Evans - Vidic - Evra
Park - Giggs - Anderson - Nani
-------Rooney - Tevez---------

Anyone else starting to feel the nerves? I know we will go through no matter what, but would be nice to go through top and I think who ever wins this match will finish top of the group...:nervous:

Anyone else have a don't give a feck about this match feeling?

Yes

I have a horrible feeling we are going to lose but who cares as we have Aalborg at home - to be honest I would rather not risk players like Ronaldo if they are not 100% fit and make sure they are ready for the derby on Sunday

Anyone else starting to feel the nerves?
Not at all.

Yes

Yep, and they need to beat us with at least 3-0 at Old Trafford to go through and not us. We will finish ahead of Celtic no matter what thanks to 4-1 in points against them.
So tbh, we are already through to the second round.

Kuszczak
Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra
Possebon, Carrick, Anderson,
Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney

Subs: Foster, O'Shea, Evans, Fletcher, Park, Gibson, Manucho, Giggs

Rooney to get back on track just in time for Sunday. 3-1 Utd Rooney hatrick.

Looks like Rafael will start. That's enough for me to look forward to.

Please let that be true. A draw here would be good but i reckon we'll come out all guns blazing after the Villa draw. We really need to gain some momentum before the City game which is a MUST WIN.

PIG
Rafael
Vidic
