Welbeck

I´m pretty sure he came sooner than 2006, he played some pre-season games in the summer of '06 and I find it hard to believe he would have been played in those had he just arrived at the club. According to Wikipedia he came to United in 2004.

Also, he wouldn´t have come from Greenisland FC, who, according to their official website, have only boys up to the age of 16. It would actually make sense if he came to United from there in 2004, when he was 16.

edit: it says in his profile on Manutd.com that he came to United in July 2004 and that he actually traveled a few times with the first team in the 05/06 season.
You're right about 2004, I was completely wrong. I should improve my reading skills apparently.

Danny played 45 mins for England u19s tonight. Got the assist as Germany were defeated by a goal to nil. Our other Danny played the whole game, as did Ben Amos.

Welbeck has looked good against Southampton. He has the pace and the strength will come sooner rather than later. He looks confident also and isn't afraid to try things.

I think he could be a really good player for United in a couple of years. I hope he gets some more matches this season.

Has looked prmosing so far. Hope he gets a few more run outsthis season, esp in the carling cup

I wouldn't be worried if Tevez goes.

We have futur super stars in Welbeck and Campbell (well maybe not the later)

Not been that great apart from the goal, needs work put into his runs. But far better than any En'gog or whatever.

he has been our best player beside berbatov

pure quality for an 18 year old, some real pace about him, an eye for goal and can play too, very exciting. Home grown as well seems like a good lad, Im delighted we have him:devil:

What? He has been good. His runs look good and he always seems to be available. Granted it is against a shite team but he obviously has the quality.

Just an observation

Are you basing that on the one time that he should have shot with his left peg but tried to get it onto his right?

Most players are predominately one footed. Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Nani, Giggs all for example always try to get it onto their favoured foot.

Welbeck is only 18.

Yes, I am

He put in a decent cross a minute ago with his left foot. He seems confident enough to use it.

Keeper made a great save in the bottom left corner to rob him of a second goal, tough shot from a low cross. I like this kid.

Immense talent. I heard he was good, knew he was good, but not THIS good. He oozed confidence today and looked like he's been playing with the first team for years. Can't wait to see him on the pitch again, Tosic will simply have to get in line.

I'd love to see him paired up front with Rooney against Derby

You do realise that Welbeck and Tosic play in different positions. One is a striker, the other is a left winger.

I do, but with Tevez coming back soon it would be hard for him to get any games up front, and he can do a job on either wing.

He's not really that good on the wing. Welbeck provides us an option up front that we don't have as he can play the centre forward role which at the moment only Rooney can do.

Welbeck´s quality. I´ve been excited about him since I saw him against Arsenal in the FA youth cup a couple of years ago and I´m delighted he´s taking his chances with the first team.

I loved seeing him and Berbatov up front, so much quality and composure on the ball.

Is it just me or does Welbeck remind anyone else of a certain Thiery Henry in any way???

His pace was frightening, much better prospect that Campbell in my eyes

Doesn´t remind me much of Henry actually, but I definitely see some similarities to Louis Saha around 2004.

I agree he´s a better prospect than Campbell, Campbell will probably go on to be a good goalscorer in this league but Welbeck seems to have more natural ability.

When was the last time United have a striker that is trained from the youth, got promoted to the first team and go on to play for United for many seasons? He mustn't leave United.

I'm worried that the lack of first team opportunities may cause him to go elswhere. Look, we had too many strikers fighting for places now. Rossi left us, we mustn't let this lad slip out of our hands.

Played brilliantly.

It's a case of him getting the chances now I feel, otherwise it could frustratingly end the way Rossi did as not quite making it with us despite having the ability.

I'm excited but very cautious about the idea of him making it with us.

Welbeck´s a local lad so he´ll probably have more patience than Rossi.

Plus he´s only 18 so he´s already played more games than he thought he would have at this point. and if he keeps taking his chances like he´s been doing, I´m certain Fergie will reward him with more games.

He had a brilliant game today. In the first half I was a little bit disappointed he wouldn't use his left foot. But in the second half he seemed to be equally adept at using both and was especially pleased with how he manages to get in behind the defense.

He certainly looks like he has a bright future at Old Trafford.

great potential... and loads of PACE... I love that in attacking players.

So far he reminds me more of Andy Cole than Henry or anyone else. What I liked about Cole, apart from his speed and athleticism, was his off the ball running and dragging defenders out of position to open up space when playing up front. Welbeck could become this player, which is something different from Rooney and Tevez.

I think we have a very good striker for the future here. Welbeck has proved he can handle any level of opposition he has faced so far. He will continue to grow in experience from now on and hopefully he will get more opportunities as the season goes on. He seems like he has all the key attributes we need in a modern striker these days. Keep up the good work.

I'm glad for him and was watching mutv and someone made a good point. It's great that we've seen two different types of goal from him, one a blast from distance and this one a headed tap in from 6 yards

I think he's a great prospect. I think his performance against boro in the cup game - especially the first half really was an eye opener for me. I don't think there's any question where his future is, campbell on the other hand is a different matter

He reminded me of henry with that finish today, lovely strike which only a select group of players are capable of

Ah yes!

I thought there was something that stood about it at the time. Definate resemblance of Henry.
