Manchester United vs Chelsea

Neither team have been at their best & both have players returning from injuries/suspensions. Just hope we click on the day & get the 3 points. Berba to step up, get the winner & the MOM please.

i think scholes and carrick will start. surely saf cant start anderson after witnessing his performance against derby. i hope neville doesn't start because he'll get cut to ribbons due to his slow pace.

Our weakest link is the Captain.

Hope he has good cover on that side, switch Ronaldo to the left and Park on the right.

If United play a 4-4-2 with Neville as starting RB I think Rafael would be a better option on the RW than Park

IMO Rafael is too young and inexperienced to play against Chelsea. Park is both more defensively sound as a winger, and is a more intelligent player than Rafael.

I dont rate Park as a winger though, I think he is great on the wide part of the 4-3-'3' but he isn't a winger not in the least, DAF will go with him and he did net v Chelsea last game, would be nice to see him repeat the habit this game, personally I dont think he has been as good as he was the past two seasons up to this point this year, that said the same could be said about most of the team

Neville Rio Vidic Evra

Ronaldo Fletcher Carrick Park

Berbatov Rooney

1-0 - Berba

I'd go with that as well, probalby bring on Anderson for Fletcher, if needed.

Only thing that is hard to tell is, whether it would be better to swith Park to the right and Ronaldo to the left, I got the feeling that Neville will need a bit more support on the flank than Evra does.

Biggest game of the Season so far. I cant wait for this one, and I will be singing my heart out....

COME ON UNITED !!!!!

If we play like we did at Derby god knows what the score will be

Historically : after a bad performance we go on a good run and the bad match is viewed as the kick in the pants to remind players what is needed.
Lets hope the Derby match is the proverbial kick in the pants

I'd go with this team too.

I very much wish that Hargreaves was available. I'd feel much more comfortable with Hargreaves at right back but hopefully Neville will be fine.

I'm not going to predict the score but I will say that I'm not feeling very confident about this game.

I think I've changed my mind, I know Scholes was piss poor against Derby but I think I want him in the middle with Carrick. Fletch in recent weeks hasn't been in great form so I think its a risk worth taking with Scholes in the middle.

What's your thoughts?

I hope so too. We can't continue to play as we have been doing this season if we are to defend our title successfully.

What's that saying that is frequently used amongst footy fans? Form is temporary but class is permanent? Scholes is always a great option but I'd go with Fletcher because he usually excels in big games such as the this one. Also, I'd argue that Fletcher is younger, more mobile and has a great work ethic (not that Scholes doesn't or anything) but I think Fletch would be better at doing the dirty work on Sunday.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Fletcher has been one of our better CMs this season right?

He has been one of the better ones, more so at the start of the season. I do however think his form in recent weeks as been patchy. Which might be due to being in an out of the team etc.

Scholes generally doesn't have bad games so I was very surprised at his performance against Derby, I'd be shocked if we were to get the same performance in a game such against Chelsea.

I'm inclined to think it might actually be worth the risk. If he doesn't Fletcher does, I'd obviously understand why.

Well, you can't go wrong with Scholes really unless he is paired with Anderson apparently. Hopefully Scholes's performance on Wednesday was just a blip.

Didn't Fergie say that he wants to reduce our dependency on the likes of Scholes and Giggs during the summer? Maybe we should start using him as a sub more and give Fletcher more chances in the starting XI because he has developed incredibly over the last couple of seasons and deserves it imo.

To be honest, I'm more worried about how our right back will cope on Sunday. Neville is nearing the end of his career whilst Rafael is inexperienced so it might be a big gamble to play the young Brazilian in such a match.

I'm mostly worried about our relative lack of goals though. Defensively we have been good all season but we need to start being more decisive in the final third and score more goals.

I think either Rafael or Neville will but in a performance. Rafael's performance against City was a major plus for, he showed great temprmant in that game and I wouldn't be worried about him playing against Chelsea.

I do think Neville will play though.

I agree with the lack of goals though, that is a concern. Although to be honest it can't go on forever and lets hope that it stops tomorrow against Chelsea and we bag a couple.

So, Evra & Rio back again - excellent.

Up front the mainstays of the attcak will surely be Berba, Rooney & Ronaldo.

Midfield looks to need to feature Fletch & Carrick.

Would not be surprised to see us go a bit 4-3-3 here - since Chelsea like to swamp the midfield if poss. So a place between Anderson or the SAF-big-match favourite (generally) that is Park?

This game is massive.

It's all well and good laughing at Rafa and Pool but we need to win tomorrow, cause theres no doubt Chelsea will be there or thereabouts come May. We've got Pool on the ropes at the moment, must take advantage of the situation.

Regardless of whether we win or lose, Rafa still looks like a fool and that was an awful performance along with a very poor result.

The won't be the case if we lose against Chelsea.

In light of liverpool and benitez's humiliation over the last 48hours this game has taken on even greater significance (if that was possible). Being arrogant and probably a bit naive we have to take home games in hand as wins so beating chelsea could potentially put us 5 points clear of them and one clear of liverpool, who are on the verge of implosion anyway and i doubt are in it for the long run regardless. a win would be a massive moment in the title race even though it is only january and encouragingly we are still to hit top form. heoping a brilliant 2009 officially starts tomorrow. id play
