Welbeck

Right IF he did but he hasn't and hasn't gotten close.

Please don't compare Welbeck and Krkić. Even with tinted glasses it's obvious to see at roughly the same age, Krkić has done far more than Welbeck. Last season for a period of time he was bagging goals in fun for Barca while Welbeck has struggled to exert himself in matches and can hardly be called on with 15 minutes to go to change the game. Krkić was even meant to have been invited by Spain to play in Euros, Welbeck isn't even close to getting a spot on England's bench. Sorry mate just don't see it.

Jovetic- well to each his own but he was giving Milan quite the trouble last weekend. Quick, can read the play, can hold onto the ball, good hard shot, the attributes for a classic striker.

Wasn't really comparing Krkic to Welbeck but just stating what role each as to their respective team. Unless your going to say Barcelona are a much better team than United then my point is still relevant. Krkic is supposed to have been the latest goldenboy, teenage sensation, the Spanish equivalent of Rooney, Ronaldo et al when they were younger. So it's going to be a bit stupid to compare the two, a teenager doesn't have to have wonderboy status to make it eventually. Fact remains Welbeck is the most highly rated striker according to Ferguson that we have had for a long while. Krkic might be better now the 18-21 age mark is when players develop and Bojan has seemingly gone backward this year. But as far as I can see only Krkic stands head and shoulders above Welbeck and that's not too bad.

Javier Saviola. Ruud Van Nistelrooy. feck the feck off.

And who the feck are you mate? And what are you trying to say? I can name Real strikers too, let's show some intelligence....

You asked me to name players who are 18 that are better or had more potential than Welbeck as you made it seem there almost aren't any. Before that you said we might not see his potential for ten years- I'm only saying we don't have ten years to wait for a player to mature and hope eventually he will. Does he have potential, of course else he wouldn't be here but to say it's out there for everyone to see during his latest performances no I'm sorry you're far too much a fan boy. Just not impressed yet with him doesn't mean I don't think he doesn't deserve a seat on the bench as we wait for Rooney to recover...

And quite frankly with the way Barca have been playing I wouldn't say they're better than us but surely on a given day either could win...

 me a fanboy? Just because I refuse to write off an 18 year old player at United?? I guess SAF must be a fanboy too. Sorry Welbeck hasn't got a flashy name like Jovetic or else you may rate him higher. I asked you to name strikers and all you have come up with is Krkic who I frankly don't rate that much but is a fair argument. The main point is that we don't wait until a player peaks in anycase. Rooney hasn't peaked yet, shall we ship him off? At United, we generally aspire for the potential in players rather than whether or not they are close to their peak. And you said that Welbeck has struggled to assert himself on games? Yet in nearly every match he has been involved in he seems to always provide some sort of goal threat which is a brilliant trait.

The Saviola, Van Nistelrooy argument is a valid one. So do one.

How silly. Bojan has hardly done much more than Welbeck. Bojan was in a Barcelona side with a horrendously off form Ronaldinho, Henry and an E'too who had no form and wanted to leave. With the likes of the very immature Dos Santos as foward competition. That is why he played so much and had a chance to show what he could do on the regular & be called up by Spain for the Euros. Not by being so special. . This season with the likes of Henry and E'too on form, resulting in him facing the type of competition Welbeck faces to be in our side (i.e in form Rooney, Berbatov, Ronaldo, Tevez the more mature than Do Santos Nani even) he has naturally had far less impact on their side. The type young, potential great have as they develope at a big team.

They youy've spoken of him one would think Bojan was impacting Barca like a Messi, Aguero, Ronaldo or Rooney!

he has only turned 18 and is deemed good enough to play for United by SAF. That's some accolade. then he scored a screamer on debut after being on pitch for a few minutes. then scored again on his cup debut.

These things are not common to ordinary players. Most United kids follow the Gibson route at 20/21 starting to get games

With all respect if Id Xavi/Ineista/Messi behind me, Id score a hand full. IMO Wellback has alot more scope for further development than Bojan. The faccccht that we dont know even where his best position is just yet shows his huge potential.

Some people will never understand that every player is different, and there aren't set rules for development. This happens or doesn't happen at different stages of different players' careers, and depends on a number of factors.

Saviola was touted as a future great at 17/18 - look at him now.
Ruud turned great much later, say 23/24, mostly due to his dedication and hard work.

FM is not real life.

once Welbeck grasps the physical element of the PL first team football, i think we'll have a really useful young striker there. his insticts are great, two good feet, his finishing in the reserves was awesome.

he'll have a great season next season, i think. whether it's with us or out on loan somewhere else is up for debate.

He's going to have a future as a winger... people slateme for it but in the reserves and Academy he played his best football coming off the flank.

Regardless i'm excited by him, he's still young, like Rafael & everyone else we need patience because the finished product may still be a decade away.

He'll be a gem, i'm more than excited by his potential

Rest my case

One game in which he hasn't even played in yet?

Mate im just saying

It'll be very interesting to see how he does today, I knew i wasnt going crazy when I stated he had a future as a winger and this might be a start of something good.

He has started really well today. Nearly scored goal of the season. He is still a striker though and not a winger.

I tell you what, that first 45 minutes have shown me that he's got beautiful touch, control and vision. He seems to caress a ball and his unorthodox dribbling has defenders wondering what he will do next. I think he's got the talent to go as far in the game as he wants but it's one thing having the ability and another applying it consistently.

played well this half, hasn't done any harm playing on the wing, he still looks to come inside looks great on the ball, doesn't give it away much. Who needs Nani!

I can see him being used ala Walcott for Arsenal. On the right where he can cut in and shoot (and score). Probably has more of a future there then up front (where he can also be used if necessary)

Had a good first half, a couple of bad touches - lots more excellent touches and maybe slightly guilty of overplaying in some periods of play. But definately one of our best players so far tonight.

Wellbeck is honestly the first young player since Beckham I am excited about.... (No offence to the defenders who have come through - Brown & Da Silva's)

I feel this guy has a big future - Ball control, composure, passing, running off ball is excellent... Is looking excellent on the wing tonight

I love his technique, he is looking very good. Clever player as well.

Agreed.

Took the words out of my mouth

Anyone see the massive difference between him and Campbell. Welbeck isnt just an athlete. Could Campbell play on the right...no chance.

Actually if we could just combine the two - Campbell's pace and strength added to Welbeck's technique and vision...

Doesn't have the pace of Walcott but more of a physical element to his game. He will end up, up front.

I wonder what some of the people who commented negatively on Welbeck are saying now.
