Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has taken the first hesitant steps on the road to full fitness after having a second knee operation.
The £17million midfielder was on crutches after surgery in Colorado to fix the long-standing tendinitis problem that is threatening to wreck his career.

Worry: Injured Owen Hargreaves on crutches at the Stigman Hawkins knee surgery and rehab center in Vail, Colorado

The 28-year-old is due back in England this week to start rehabilitation and hopes to take part in pre-season training.
But time could be running out on his plans to revive an England career that has earned him 42 caps.
A source close to the player said: 'Owen hopes the operation was successful but we have to wait and see.'

If he gets back in the United team, he'll get back in the England team. I reckon he'll do both(ever the optimist, eh?).

Nice to see Owen Hargreaves again. Hope everything goes well for him and he returns to us in a good state. His rehabilitation should be long but hopefully worth the effort in the end.

wish him all the best...

Lets hope he recovers quickly.

truest words

Can't see him making our bench when he's fit, never mind the first team, he's shit

Only messing. I reckon Carricks the superior player, obviously, and he's the one out of the 5/6 midfielders we have that plays the most. That said, Hargreaves will still get games. I really think the England thing would depend on whether Cappello stops being an idiot and starts Carrick for England.

In that case, Hargreaves wouldn't get a look in for England, but I reckon he could dislodge Gary Barry, given enough of a chance.

That doesnt really look like Hargreaves to me

It looks exactly like him to me. Because it is him. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that no one looks more like Owen Hargreaves than Owen Hargreaves. :)

cant wait for im to come back to action, i rate him really high, and my opinion is that his freekicks are better than Ronaldos:eek: anyone else ?

:(

I was hoping to see him back before the end of this season.

was never going to happen - we were told that months ago. The main thing is he's had the two operations which was always the plan and in 5/6 months time - all going well, he'll be back in training

if one year out means 3 or 4 years without constant smaller problems then its all worth it. rehabilitation will be slow and frustrating, hopefully it works out for him. great player

..................................................................................................

Ive always liked hargreaves since he pulled on the red jersey great attitude and mentality looks gutted in that picture, could certainly have used him this season in some games due to his versatility, hopefully he can return to last season's form when he comes back and be a big player for us

Gone for all season and yet we didn't miss him one bit. Says something about the squad SAF is managing atm. We could do with him now though with all these injuries gathering up. Hope to see him back before the season is over.

I merged two threads here, so there will be some duplication - it would be nice (but unlikely I suppose) if we could all check that there isn't a topic already in existence before we start one. Muchos gracias.

I think we have missed him a lot - although we have coped well without him.

We will miss him a lot more in the next few months - let's hope the replacements continue to do well!

Totaly agree. I'm a big fan of the lad, and I really hope he can come back from this injury and claim a place in the side. In terms of our future, post Scholes & Giggs - Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson and Hargreaves all fighting for 2 places will be great - with Gibson and Possebon pushing for the odd game as well.

Tomorrow's edition of CNN's medical show Vital Signs includes a feature on Owen's surgery/rehab.

Stigman-Hawkins, great journalism, it's Steadman, and he is the best knee surgeon around, said United should have sent Hargo there in August

Question: In theory, should these operations fix him up and thus available from next season to play around 40 games every season..

Or is it a case of him playing more..say 20 games..but then being given rests regardless?

Hope he comes back stronger than Superman

Well as predicted by the Chief, we've struggled badly without him this season.

Oh no, wait a minute....

One of the best players in the league, and we're still going strong. Amazing. It will probably come to a point when his absent will become more obvious. I'd dare Liverpool to rest/sideline their players the way we have done and see where they'd be in the league.

How long would this list of best players in the league be then?

Because he'd be quite far down on my list.

he'll be back next season, just as Scholes & Giggs are moving into the sunset ....

our CM options will be: Carrick, Fletcher, Hargreaves, Anderson with the likes of Possebon & Gibson pushing through.

Pretty perfect timing I'd say!
