Yep, everyone wants to watch Newcastle these days. ;)

It's difficult to pick the right team, as Newcastle away will still be a tough one. I think it's great for us that Liverpool dropped points again as we have slightly less pressure on us going into this game. However, with Chelsea looking decent again, we can't afford to go into a Premier League game with a side that could be too weak. Patrice Evra is the player who we need to look after the most I think, since he played against Spurs all that time, and after this, we have two big cup games (away to Fulham, home to Inter), both of which will be tough games so I don't see where Evra gets his rest (other than perhaps at Fulham). Not to mention, potential title deciding games the following weeks against Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Van der Sar
Neville - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Park - Fletcher - Carrick - Ronaldo
Berbatov - Rooney
--
Subs: Kuszczak; O'Shea, Fábio; Anderson, Giggs, Tosic; Tévez

I don't expect Ferdinand and Vidic to have to do all that much, so they won't be too tired and can play all 90 minutes. Neville, Evra, Park, or Ronaldo are the players likely to eventually get subbed off, the rest should be fresh and ready to go. Should win.

The important question is should I leave Ronaldo as captain of my fantasy football team....is he likely to play the full 90?

Possible Newcastle line-up:

GK Steve Harper
RB Ryan Taylor
LB Jose Enrique
CB Fabricio Coloccini
CB Steven Taylor
CM Sebastien Bassong
CM Geremi
RM Peter Lovenkrands
LM Jonas Gutierrez
CF Shola Ameobi
CF Obafemi Martins

Substitutes:
Fraser Forster
David Edgar
Claudio Cacapa
Mark Viduka
Alan Smith
Andrew Carroll

Recent encounters between the teams:

2008/2009 Aug Man. Utd. 1 - 1 Newcastle
2007/2008 Feb Newcastle 1 - 5 Man. Utd.
2007/2008 Jan Man. Utd. 6 - 0 Newcastle
2006/2007 Jan Newcastle 2 - 2 Man. Utd.
2006/2007 Oct Man. Utd. 2 - 0 Newcastle
2005/2006 Mar Man. Utd. 2 - 0 Newcastle
2005/2006 Aug Newcastle 0 - 2 Man. Utd.

Whatever anyone says, this encounter largely depends on our own approach. Newcastle, more than any other team, are likely to give-in if you either score goals early, or if and when you go three goals up. The crowd reaction at that point is very important, as they don't tend to stay with the team. In any other situation, they will be dangerous, and as we saw with the 2-2 result a few years ago, a one goal lead is something that we shouldn't attempt to defend, unless it's absolutely necessary.

The probable freshness in our team could well be a the deciding factor, here. Let's not give Liverpool or Chelsea anything to hold on to.

1994/95 won 2-0 Albert, Kitson (LC)
1993/94 drew 1-1 Cole

Important to win this now after three points for all of our rivals. This is the team I'm hoping for:

----------Vds----------
Neville-Rio-Vidic-Evra/Fabio
------Carrick--Fletch------
Ronaldo-------------Park
-----Rooney--Berbatov----

I'll say 1-0, Ronaldo to score

I always look at this fixture as being tricky, due to the crowd, but if we can go to the San Siro and dick Inter, than surely we must against that Newcastle side, which looks utterly awful.

Depends how much we want it, any sign of complacency and we'll draw this one.

To be fair that's fecking embarrassing for a big club like Newcastle. I'd say they're due one, but you had the nerve to dare draw with us at OT so you can feck that idea right off :)

Two games in hand now - this being the first. When, and against who is our second game in hand?

Hope not, I miss smudge.

why? who would you drop to fit him in??

Hope Ronaldo is rested after Wembley. Nice to think about the quality he'll bring back in. brings home how awesome the current squad is.

(of course the squad always looks better when we're winning, but still, best I can ever remember)

No messin 2moro night, bring those points home

Hope we don't use our 'get out of jail' cards tomorrow!

Come on United!

I think Sir Alex should give either Ronaldo or Evra a rest. I need Bendtner off the bench for my fantasy team :D

Ronaldo has been playing a lot recently anyway.

VDS
O'Shea - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Park - Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs
Rooney - Berbatov

Btw, does anyone have the travelling squad for this one?

There is huge potential for us to drop points in this game if we do not focus. Not so much because of Newcastle's quality, but merely because we are on such a run and virtually everyone outside the club is acting as though the title is sewn up.

If we drop two points here, get knocked out against Inter, we then go into the Liverpool game with things a lot tighter than what was expected. We can't take anything for granted.

That said, I would be massively disappointed to come away with anything less than a win. They are really struggling for form and have a lot of their best players sidelined.

It's amazing how poor Newcastle are every season, not just with the money they've spent but just the individual quality of the players in the team.

Harper
Beye-Taylor-Coloccini-Enrique
Gutierrez-Barton-Butt-Duff
Viduka-Owen

Subs: Krul, Bassong, Cacapa, Nolan, Geremi, Ameobi, Martins.

And that's leaving out Lovenkrands, Smith, Xisco, Ryan Taylor and LuaLua.

Yeah, but vast swathes of those players have missed big chunks of the season. They tend to sign players with atrocious injury records.

Or they just have an atrocious medical team.

The only injury prone ones there are Viduka, Duff and Owen really.

They get a lot more injuries than just those three, and it has to be something more than just bad luck.

They haven't got the players to win this game...or should I say, they haven't got the players fit to win this game. With Owen, Duff, Barton, Butt, Beye, Nolan, Guthrie all unavialable it will mean a comfortable win for you lot and Van der Sar extending his amazing sequence of cleansheets to 17 games (15 in the PL).

I can't wait for the game....see you all in Shearer's Bar.

You've just jinxed it! Oh no!

It was exactly 13 years ago on 4 March 1996 when Eric Cantona scored the only goal at St James' Park. That match turned the title race in their favour, as they chased down the 12-point lead Kevin Keegan's Newcastle had built.

 13 years to the day...

Didn't say anything of the lot mate, It's alright to miss a player who wouldn't fit in or has naturally drifted away is it not?

Smith, Butt, Fortune, Silvestre, some of my favorites over the last few seasons all wouldn't fit in today, but I surely do miss them in our red.
