Manchester United Vs Liverpool

Saturday is my birthday. Last United match on my birthday that I can remember was Arsenal at Old Trafford in 1998. We lost 1-0 and Arsenal won the title. I will accept responsibility if things go the same way this time, although I still feel owed after Overmars' goal. :(
My birthday was the weekend that we battered Chelsea 3-0, hopefully it's more of that instead :)

Time to put these bastards in their place. Once and for all.

Ooh... last time we lost to Liverpool (2-1) earlier this season, it was my birthday too... :nervous:

he rants on national tele and looks a fecking twat
he moans about decisions from every referee

I like it :D

I'd like to see:

--------------Van der Sar------------
O'Shea---Ferdinand---Vidic-------Evra
----------Fletcher--Carrick-----------
Ronaldo--------------------------Park
----------Berbatov--Rooney----------

Totally understand those clamouring for Tevez, but I think we need the different options in attack that Berbatov can give us when on song. Tevez will be a more than handy option from the bench.

Yup. My preferred team too.

Of course, it all depends on whether or not Berbatov's ankle is bothering him or not. He seems to be at his worst when he's carrying a knock (mid-week game was a good example but he had some shockers earlier in the season when he had a niggling injury picked up with Bulgaria).

Unless he's fully recovered, I would give Tevez a chance.

Yeah, that makes sense. The whole team needs to be fit and firing.

A win tomorrow would be a massive stride towards title number 18 and the ultimate de-perching of those horrible cnuts from the 'most successful domestic team in England' platform.

I dare not even dream about it, in case I get disappointed.

Been longing for us to reach 18 since I was a wee lad in short trousers.

Why couldn't this game be on Sunday?

RAFA BENITEZ last night laid into Alex Ferguson again by insisting Liverpool are the true kings of Europe.

Manchester United may be the reigning European champs and the bookies’ favourites to become the first team to retain the Champions League.

But Anfield chief Benitez says Fergie cannot touch Liverpool’s record over the last five years.

The teams meet at Old Trafford tomorrow in a must-win match for Liverpool if they are to stand any chance of catching United in the Premier League title race.

Benitez took a massive verbal swipe at Fergie two months ago, insisting the Red Devils boss gets away with more than any other manager when it comes to taking pot-shots at referees.

And the Spaniard has had another dig at his rival following the Merseysiders’ 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid on Tuesday — the Spanish giants’ worst Champions League defeat.

Rafa roared: “Liverpool are the best team in Europe over the last five years.

PRIDE ... Rafa Benitez with Champions League trophy

“People seem to have forgotten we have produced some brilliant performances to reach two Champions League finals and a semi-final in the last four years.

“I’ve been given a tag which I do not deserve and which is totally inaccurate.

“I’m not a cry baby, but competing with Manchester United and Chelsea is very difficult.

“They have enough money to sign five £20million players and, if one or two of them do not succeed, then they still have three more to call on.

“I can sign two such guys and if one doesn’t succeed or I make a mistake with one, then everyone really notices it.

“Last season we scored 119 goals, more than anyone else in England. My team doesn’t just hoof the ball up the park, as I keep reading and hearing.

“OK, Xabi Alonso and Stevie Gerrard can play long passes with total precision, which is different from a defender heaving a long ball.

“But we mix our game up and every test is different.

“People show us a lack of respect but we are a great team.

“Then I hear Juande Ramos questioning the validity of our first two goals against Madrid at Anfield!

“Luckily, the whole world can see Champions League matches and everyone could see that if we hadn’t scored one way then we would have scored another.

“The game was ours from start to finish, my players made them suffer from the first minute at the Bernabeu to the last minute at Anfield.”

For all his bluster, the Reds are NOT Europe’s most successful team in terms of win percentage in the last five years.

On the current European co-efficient (used for Euro seeding purposes), Liverpool are in first place, clear of Barcelona and Chelsea.

But, although they won the Champions League in 2005 and finished runner-up two years later, the honour of top dog goes to Barca who have a win percentage of 61, compared to Liverpool’s 56, AC Milan’s 54 and United’s 51.

With a last-eight place in the bag, Benitez’s boys need to switch their attentions back to the Premier League.

Liverpool are third, seven points behind leaders United, who have a game in hand on their bitter North West rivals.

And Rafa’s Reds face the acid test of transferring their devastating European powerplay football into a final domestic charge for the title.

Benitez says his team can draw enormous strength from stuffing the Spanish champions.

And he wants his team to apply the same tactical and physical game-plan which swept aside Real to provide the Anfield army with their most satisfying week in years.

Benitez rapped: “What we did was a big deal.

“We didn’t let Madrid breathe, we won with the massive backing of our fans, we were aggressive and ambitious.

“It is important to undo the opposition. A team like us, who knows what to do and when to do it, is a good team.

“It would be absurd of me not to admit that I feel very satisfied at having produced good work already this week — and I’m not an idiot.

“But I’m also proud of a job well done by everyone from me all the way down to the masseurs, the kitman, the doctors and the physios who managed to get Gerrard and Fernando Torres to play so well despite not being 100 per cent fit.”

Benitez, who can claim the double over United tomorrow, has revealed he will decide his future within the next fortnight with a new contract on the table.

And he laughed off the notion he prefers to run a team with hard-working players rather than superstar footballers.

He said: “Since when was it impossible for a great footballer to listen to his coach? Of course I like great players and I can work with them!

“And what about my Valencia team where I had half-a-dozen internationals?

“I want the best players with me and I want them to be hungry for work and to look after themselves.

“To always do what’s good for them and for the team.

“Stars can be complicated, I know. But stars do not automatically bring conflict, that’s not so.

“Perhaps if you have three of them you can experience problems.”

PEPE REINA claims Liverpool simply cannot compete with Manchester United's spending power.
The bitter rivals clash on Saturday, with Rafa Benitez's men looking to close the gap at the top of the Premier League table to four points.

But Spanish keeper Reina believes the difference between the value of both squads means the Old Trafford outfit are favourites.

He said: "If they beat us or we draw it will be very difficult.

"They have spent a lot of money in the last three or four years. It makes a big difference when you spend more than £100million.

"It makes you even stronger than you already are. Carlos Tevez is a big price, Wayne Rooney is big money, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov etc.

"To compete with that is almost impossible. To face this kind of team with the power in attack and the players of this quality, it is always difficult to defend.

"They have a really strong squad and they can use different players. It is tough."

Making excuses already, and Ronaldo was hardly big money was he. A bargain considering the player he has turned into.

Perhaps Pepe, if your club stopped buying loads of little shit players and bought decent ones your club would be a bit better at football.

Who cares. As long as they keep making (false) excuses for being second best, and feeble arguments for trying to claim that being second best is, for some obscure reason, better than being the best, they'll always be second best.

You can't beat someone who's better than you, if you can't even convince yourself that you can be better than them.

What's funny is that Benitez can neither accept that United might be better than Liverpool, or convince himself that Liverpool can be better than United. He contradicts himself all the time. He's done it repeatedly for a couple of years now, but this season's title charge has proven too much for his tiny, self contradicting mind to handle. Someone at Liverpool would do well to just have a word and tell him to shut up, but he's an arrogant bully and no one seems to have the guts.

Reckon it might be a draw tomorrow, but if we win his reaction will be funny

the team that talks the most before hand tends to be the one shitting it so it's funny

I'd like to see nani and tevez feature. Nani scored in the fixture last season and is always capable and tevez I think deserves it and will be fresh for the game

The only question for me is will vds be in goal? Seems a strange question Did he play against fulham? I'm sure Sir Alex has an agreement with him not to play him 3 games in a week or maybe i'm way off?

I'm sure VDS would feck off if he was benched for Liverpool.

He'll get his rest, this one we need him.

Yep, you're way off

25 hours till kick off. I'm pulling an all-nighter fueled with alcohol.

Last time I did we beat the pants off of Chelsea, so here's to a new tradition.

You know what's really cute about this whole spending thing? Scousers will list our two best 11's and their price, and from that conclude that we have spent much more money. This of course ignores the fact that while they've bought 4 average players, we've spent the same money on 1 very good player. And they will also be vary adamant that Rafa had to build a team from scratch. It's been 5 years, and how many players has he bought? The average players he buys now aren't bought to replace the average players he inherited from Houllier, they're bought to replace the average players he bought.

Quietly confident about this game.

They're still claiming United have spent way more dosh than they have? Jesus Christ! They bring this up in every fecking interview. Is that the only excuse they have?

Anyone have the up to date financial figures on money spent by United and Liverpool (or the top 4) since Rafa was appointed?

Expect to hear "hes cracking up, hes cracking up, hes cracking, Rafas cracking up!" A lot of times! I actually wonder if he'll react to it ie lash out and start yelling at the crowd then having a little rant after the game about how the United fans should respect him and the job hes doing at Liverpool! Well we respect the latter!
