Sunderland vs Manchester United

Its funny how we dont seem to trouble teams at all currently.

Neville and Oshea havent helped at full backs either.

We look like concede everytime any team attacks atm.

Put on Ronaldo and take off Park for the second half pls.

At halftime - sittin', thinkin'
Styleswise - a rerun of the Porto game against a much poorer team.

Some thoughts before I think too much.

Foster - scary moments
Neville - bizarre dive, looks rusty
Vidic - still looks accident prone
Evans - steady
O'Shea - steady + -
Carrick - better than last week
Scholes - better than last week
Park - missing in action
Berbatov - good comeback
Tevez - doing nothing of interest with Roo's position
Rooney - is a star

So, Sunderland have had the majority of decent chances. We scored and Vidic came very close. But really Sunderland could have scored 2 or 3 with a good finisher on the pitch. Our midfield and defence are having all kinds of problems keeping on top of the game and the strikers havent been involved often. Only Rooney is playing anywhere near his best.

I concur.

Really, he's pretty anonymous

Thank goodness for a a goal.We still look far from the United i know.Maybe just maybe we will see a little of that in the second half.

I think today has been a better performance in terms of our passing, i think SAF has told them to get back to basics because they seem to play the simpler ball rather than the Hollywood flick. I've been happy with most of the team but Neville has been poor as has Park, Berba has had some good touches but a very Berba like performance. Tevez has looked lively as has Rooney but i just hate seeing him on the wing... Scholes has done well with his goal but his passing has gone stray a few times, Carrick looks better than he has the past few games so thats a plus. Defense still looks shakey...

Overall it was a good 30 min but the last 15 would give Sunderland encouragement, a early goal in the second half and i'll feel better

Even if we just see this through it doesn't give us any confidence boost. Sunderland are hardly any good. I'd like to see Ronaldo and Anderson introduced on 60 minutes.

Not even close. Tevez was good and Berbatov had some great touches. Rooney and Evans best players on the pitch.

Berba has been brilliant.

By what possible measure? Played a part in the build up to the goal, he's barely even touched the bloody thing otherwise

They all want a good bloody clip round the head right now, making the game look so difficult. Even very basic passes

Styles wants a good fecking thump for that ludicrous decision to book Rooney. One of the worst decisions of the season

Well, the Gods saved us there. How come every team in the world now looks as good as us? Weird, isn't it.
All we need now is Dwight Yorke to come on an get the equalizer in the last minute.

Foster - :nervous:

Neville - :nono:
Vidic + Eans - :nervous:
O'Solid - :)

Carrick - :boring:
Scholes -
Park - :(

Rooney - :D
Tevez -
Berbatov - :)

Tevez as the targetman makes no sense, Berbatov should be playing ahead of him and getting more involved.

Not even close. Tevez was good and Berbatov had some great touches. Rooney and Evans best players on the pitch.

Tevez has had one or two involvements same as Berbatov. Thats not enough from a striker at United. The midfield hasnt helped them obviously.

So, we started well enough and managed to get a goal which was neatly taken by Scholes when he rolled backed the years with his arrival for a nice glancing header.

Did alright up until the last 10 minutes to half time when the obvious nerves played a part in our defending. Could've conceded but managed to get into half time 1-0 up. Hopefully a half time talk can calm the lads and hopefully we'll come out strong and grab another goal which will settle us down.

Rooney as been fantastic, can play him where ever you want and he'll still but a performance in for you. I think Berbatov as made a difference too, he might not be 100% fit but he still makes a huge difference.

O'Shea is struggling and our left hand side is getting overrun at the moment. We look nervous, simply put. Need to up the tempo and pass the ball around.

edit: yet another game that really highlights how much we're missing pace up front.

Berbatov has controlled the ball superbly and he does just no give the ball away.

If anyone think he's had an average game either he has a very bad stream or is plain deluded.

Is this the first time United have gone into half time without conceding since Santa Cruz scored and broke the clean sheet record?

If so, yay, improvement <_< We desperately need Rio back and id say Wes Brown of last year.

Since the Liverpool game, we seem to be a second half team. First half - appear to just want to slow the game down & absorb the pressure. Little energy, little movement, little invention.

I wonder if this is Fergie et al, trying to make sure we conserve energy to last the distance.

Positionally we seems getting caught out too often by giving possession away cheaply when everyone is pressed forward. Counter-attacking wise - Tevez is too isolated and the rest aren't getting up fast enough to support him. Tevez first touch seems hit and miss - too erratic to be lone striker forward and coupled with his lack of pace + lack of fast support - all points towards an ineffective counter attack.
