If we only sign Valencia...

Of course I would. We need a striker (or two) two or 3 midfielders and a backup Centre back.

If we only sign Valencia, we are in deep shit for the season.

Also, how come when the Valencia stories emanate from the press we all believe it.

But we are scolded for getting excited over Benzema links.

In both cases, the club has made no comment.

Because Whelan has spent the last couple of weeks non-stop talking about all our meetings with them about Valencia.

The only noise coming from Lyon regarding Benzema is some advisor speaking in general terms.

Our interest in Valencia is well-documented, that's not the case with Benzema.

By who?

The Wigan Chairman is always spouting nonsense.

Could it not just be a ploy to elevate his price? Madrid are reputedly interested in him as well.

No one from United has passed comment from what I recollect. On the other hand, SAF has stated publically that he likes Benzema...

He's also previously said that he thinks Stephen Gerrard is a cracking player.

Can't remember him saying anything about Valencia. I may be wrong though.

Point is, there is no more foundation to this Valencia story, yet people are taking it as a given. Wasn't he supposed to be on his way here the previous summer as well?...

in fairness SAF is stating the bloody obvious, when he says Kaka, Gerrard, Torrs, Aguero, Benzema, Messi etc are good players. Doesn't mean we will sign them though

All I would say is that we have just got rid of 2 players that combined brought us 41 goals this season. Considering in all competitions we scored 115 goals, thats big percentage. Can we really expect the likes of Roo and Berba to pick up that goal slack? Valencia only has scored 6 goals at Wigan in 47 appearances. So I wouldn't be holding my breathe for him to be picking up the slack.

I think we would need atleast another creative attacking player, or a finisher. But we need someone otherwise, we will be having to rely on the likes of Welbeck and Macheda to get us goals from the bench.

Rooney and Berbatov can both conceivably hit 10 more goals each. Neither hit 20 this season just gone.

We will add at least one striker you would think.

That 40 goal shortfall will be made up.

We need:

1. A game changing winger (Valencia is not this, sorry muppets)
2. A role playing striker OR a rotational striker (Could be in our club already with Campbell and Welbeck in the ranks)
3. A hardnosed CM (Also possibly in our club if Hargo comes back to full fitness)

We need to address these situations, and signing someone who is not one of the three makes no sense.

I'd be pretty p*ssed off after losing a pretty sensational 30+ goals player (Ronaldo) and a striker (Tevez) if we thought it was adequate to the club to replace them both with a distinnctly average Wigan winger.........so Yes, you could say I'd be disappointed. I actually think we could do with 3 players, but at the very very least 2 - and one of them has to be a mobile centre-forward

Then we shouldn't buy him imo. I said we need to replace some of the goals Ronaldo scores.

We should be looking to replace those goals, but it's not going be coming from the wings because there aren't exactly a lot of wingers who are scoring a lot of goals.

Thing is, if you look at recent season reviews you see very few of Ronaldo's goals had much to do with him being a right winger. They are strikers goals, and those were the sort of positions he took to score them in and around the box.

We clearly need a winger, but because Ronaldo has been scoring 'center forward's' goals, it means that having the right options upfront is just as important. Replacing Ronaldo means replacing both a winger and a striker, because he was both roles in one (although he really became more a striker as time progressed).

With Tevez also gone, we're probably going to need another striker if we're looking for instant success. If we're willing to take a chance on the youngsters, that's fine as well. But I can't see Fergie going into a 'rebuilding' phase with the team we've got. I just don't see the point. We need to add the odd component, so we'll try to do it.

If we can bring Rafael and Evans on, we can do the same with Welbeck and Macheda. And it does not mean not buying a striker.

Consider it transferred with my apologies Pogue.

I'd love to see it, but he is a bit of an inbetweener. Not good enough to usurp the current first choice two, and then arguably a place on the bench for him is just keeping Macheda or Welbeck out.

I suspect a £6-8m bid and SAF may think its good business.

Correct me If I am wrong but isn't that exactly what we need?

Rooney & Berbatov 1st choice and backed up by Campbell, Welbeck & Macheda.. If Campbell does well then well and good if not we can go out and get a Striker next summer... Who? I dunno some guy that probably doesn't want to leave untill the World Cup is over next summer?

Didn't roo hit 20? I'm fairly sure he did. Yes he did. And I'm not being snide on the guy, but in the 5 years he has been here has never scored more than 25 goals a season. So I don't think you can really expect him to get 30 goals next season, although he probably is capable of it.

I would hope Berba could hit 10 more in, but he has to start shooting a lot more and getting into better positions.

At the end of the day that shortfall has to be covered. We didn't exactly score amples of goals this season either. In 32 competitive games this season we only scored one or zero goals. Thats not really great. Shows we do have to improve attack. Even though we were very successful this season.

You're not really from Sale, are you?

If Valencia comes in which looks likely then we will need one more player. Thats obviously got to be a striker because there is no doubt we are short in that position. Between Rooney/Berbatov and Welbeck/Macheda we are missing some experience and proven quality. If something happens to our first choice strikers for a prolonged period of time then this may be a cause for concern.

Sir Alex is smarter than this and hopefully he wont take the risk because im not sure Welbeck and Macheda are ready yet. We dont want to burden them with too much pressure at a young age. Ronaldo and Tevez made a huge contribution to our team and we will need some class players brought in to replace them.

You're not really from Sale, are you?

Em...yes I am. Go away!

In the PL this season we scored 68 goals. Last season we scored 80. Quite a difference IMO. Oh and the season before that we scored 83 goals in the PL. Don't get me wrong we scored a good number, but its dropping each year. If you want to win the title another year then we are going to have to be getting more goals next season IMO.

You may feel we have scored loads. But that stats suggest otherwise.

I have a lot of faith in our young players, especially Anderson, Rafael, Fabio, Macheda and Welbeck, but IMHO we need at least a winger (Valencia should be fine) and another striker. Benzema and Valencia would be the perfect business in my view, but I fear now with Real's interest it's just not going to happen.
I'm not too bothered with Tevez leaving the club from a footballing point of view, but assuming Welbeck will mainly be used as a winger we can only rely on Rooney, Berbatov and Macheda upfront. Will this be enough to challenge on all fronts? We can't be sure about that, but obviously Fergie knows best. If Hargreaves is indeed fit again he will be like a new signing.
In the end I would be surprised if we don't spend at least half of the fee we get for Ronaldo.

We will get someone else aswell as valencia because valencia would never get the number 7 shirt. The shirt will go to someone new and will become an awesome player if they are not already. The 7 shirt also has magical property's aswell

I wouldn't say we scored loads but we definitely scored amples.

of which Tevez contributed a massive 5 PL goals

thanks fat arse

I hate it when people do that. It's just noise in the forum. At least say something worth reading.

The worst at the moment is quoting someone and saying 'This', which seems to have superceded 'Seconded' as the laziest shittest post on the forum.

This.

In conclusion, I hate you all.

I reckon we'll sign 3 or 4 players this summer though.

I wouldn't say we scored loads but we definitely scored amples.

In 32 games we either struggled and only scored one or we scored none. That doesn't say amples to me. Especially when we won the PL by 4 points. I think next season we will find it harder, due to this season certain strikers like Torres and Drogba have had injuries. When they get a full season, there teams goals count will surely increase. IMO.
