The Audi Cup is a two day tournament, announced for the 2009-10 pre-season. The inaugural competition features four teams, and will be staged at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The competition is organised and promoted by car manufacturer Audi AG to celebrate their 100th year of trading, and hosted by 2007–08 Fußball-Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The trophy will be contested over two days, each day seeing two matches played back-to-back. The opening day of matches will take place on 29 July 2009, where the participants for the final games will be determined. The final and third-place playoff will occur the following day, on 30 July. The competition takes the format of the latter stages of a regular knock-out competition. The winners of each of the two matches on the first day will compete against each other for the Audi Cup, whilst the two losing sides will contest a third-place playoff.
The draw for the 2009 Audi Cup semi-finals was made on the Audi stand at the Geneva Motor Show, on 3 March 2009. The draw was conducted by Audi representative Tom Kristensen, in the presence of an official representative from each participating team. Gennaro Gattuso (Milan), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Carlos Bianchi (Boca Juniors) and Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich) were present on behalf of their clubs.

Well in BR, I like your threads.

First 'tough' match of the pre-season campaign - Can't wait to see how we'll do.

This is why I said the next two games should be great. I'd just finished making up this initial post so I was a game ahead! 4 threads, 4 wins. Sorry VidaRed

keep at it.

anything less than 8 goals and you're getting a date with rimaldo.

Anderson to score, I'm proper feeling it this time.

Same, but I've felt it quite a few times these last few months, so.. We'll have to see, anyway. He played well today, and was very unlucky not to score, so perhaps he can go one better against Boca.

Can't wait for this one myself. Hard to predict a team, but due to the quality of the opposition, and the fact we're relatively close to the competitive season, I think we'll play a fairly full side. Vida and Valencia will definitely play, as they need a few games to get back into the swing of things. I'd imagine Owen will get another game as well, considering how well he's started the pre-season, and how much he appears to be enjoying his football. Same goes for Nani, who had his best game in some time today, and was playing with flair and confidence again. :)

Should be a great occasion, anyway, and it'll be good to see us up against one of the best world sides who (naturally) we've not played with any regularity.

Riquelme's Boca with Alfio Basile back in charge and looking to do much better than last season in the Argentine league, I think we'll see a very good game.

Really looking forward to this. Heading out to Munich with a mate for the Boca game, and the Milan v Bayern one.

Anyone know the current state of Argentinian football? Is it Boca or River Plate thats leading the way these days.

None of them actually. Boca decreased their level a lot and really suffer the absence of Riquelme when he is not available, looked like a one man team at times and did really poor last season. River didn't do good themselves.

Velez Sarsfield were the champions in a very polemic finale beating Huracán (who needed a draw to be champions) 1-0, 7 minutes from time.

And Estudiantes de la Plata were champions of the Copa Libertadores.

Allright lads, I got this PM from an Argentinian newbie:

Hi.
Could anyone post the squad Manchester United is taking to Munich, and if possible, the possible starting XI vs Boca?
For those asking if Riquelme is playing: Roman is already in Spain and he travels tomorrow to Munich to join the rest of the team. If you want to see it, here's the list of players Boca took to Munich:

I would appreaciate it if anyone could post the list of players United is taking to the torunament.
Regards.

Well, with Fergie you never know, I guess we'll play a very mixed team with Macheda included.

Anyone knows if Valencia is joining the team for these 2 games?

any aussies know if this will be shown ? setanta doesnt seem to cover it.

hopefully its on foxtel ! cant view their website at work so cant check..

Would not have a clue.

Don't think Fox Sports will run it, they're more likely to show a rerun from the AFL "Rivalry Round"

Blog: Latest from Munich

10:25 – We've just arrived at the hotel in Munich to be met by one man and his digital camera. It's a far cry from the hysteria of the Far East. Even the airport security staff were jostling for autographs on our way out from Hangzhou.

If I'm honest, I don't really know what's on the agenda for the day. The schedule tells me the players are training at 17:30, but there was talk on the plane that it may be scrapped in favour of a session in the gym. For now, however, everyone's tired after a long flight, so I think it's a case of having a shower and maybe a few hours' kip.

03:36 – This is meant to be the live blog from Munich but this entry is actually coming to you from the glorious nation of Kazakhstan. We've only stopped here to refuel, however, so I'm not sure it counts as a country I can tick off my list of places I've visited.

Anyway, the Asia Tour is officially over and now it's time to focus on the Audi Cup. It's just under six hours from here to Munich, so I'm going to get some sleep. The next entry in the blog should be coming to you direct from Europe.
