Boca Juniors vs Manchester United

Manchester United will face Argentine giants Boca Juniors during the upcoming Audi Cup this week, and Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he had their star player Juan Roman Riquelme watched on numerous occasions during his spell at Villarreal.

Ferguson is looking forward to the preseason tournament, suggesting it will give him a greater understanding as to his team’s progress prior to the season opener in August.

The Old Trafford supremo told The Daily Telegraph: “When Bayern Munich organise a tournament of this significance we expect a great platform for the players.”

“We are in real football now after our time in the Far East.”

“You hope to get your tempo and fitness over there but this is where the proper work starts.”

The Manchester United supremo also spoke enthusiastically about facing Boca Juniors and their talisman midfielder Riquelme.

“I know all about Boca Juniors.”

“If you can't sleep on a Friday night and turn on your television, you will see them at three o'clock in the morning,”

“We played them a few years ago at Old Trafford and it was a very competitive game.”

“We expect the same this time, but we do our homework.”

“Everyone knows about Riquelme after his spell at Villarreal and we watched him many times.”

“We thought him an interesting player, but for some reason, he just passed us by.”

I'd hope to see Owen and Rooney today.

And definately Nani and Valencia on the wings.

The draw for the 2009 Audi Cup semi-finals was made on the Audi stand at the Geneva Motor Show, on 3 March 2009. The draw was conducted by Audi representative Tom Kristensen, in the presence of an official representative from each participating team. Gennaro Gattuso (Milan), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich)and Carlos Bianchi (Boca Juniors) were present on behalf of their clubs.

That Carlos Bianchi (Boca Juniors) doesn't half look old.:smirk:
(and as noted above somewhat like Larry David)
Must be at least the same age as Giggsy!

Fergie says Vidic will play 45 minutes and he hopes Valencia will play most of the game. He implies that Cathcart starts too.

Valencia is number 25

What's wrong with that lineup? Cathcart is the only one a bit raw in there, and he's already played some Carling Cup games if im not mistaken. Everyone else is quality. Can't wait to see Valencia, at last!

Weird, but not shocking. The thinking behind that line-up must be to give playing time to those who've had least of it, see Valencia, Cathcart and Park, but also PIG and Fabio. The rest of the team is mainly topped (well, Rooney, Carrick, Vidic and O'Shea).

SAF said before the match that Boca don't do friendlies. Note how the most injury prone ones are left out.

How many substitutions are allowed in this tournament?

Fergie said they aren't sure what his best position is but he wants to see how he manages the step up.
I was certain that he is, has been and always will be a centre back? Where else?
