Manchester United vs Bayern Munich

I love how the trophy's get smaller and smaller

Wasn't a classic match and it all came down to a lottery.
I hate that ridiculous cliche. It's complete bullshit.

Unless you believe Le Tissier played the lottery 48 times and won 47 of them.

Evans was excellent tonight, apart from the penalty. Nani did well. Just an exercise in fitness improvement apart from that.

I hope this thread doesn't keep getting bumped like the CL final one, I don't think I can handle that :(

Wasnt a classic and we looked short in midfield but have to say Evans had a really good game and i thought for the most part Nani was really good on the left, also Valenica didnt look half bad off the bench. Basically what im getting at is i miss Ronaldo :(

This pre-season friendly cup is the most over-the-top I've ever seen.

Enjoyed this, even if we didn't end up winning it. Any football let alone that involving United is enjoyable pre season

No its to early to say how a player might perform for us at beginning of season, but early indications is that both nani & valencia are going to have good seasons.

What was the common thought on Giggs and Scholes tonight? I personally thought both had really good games in midfield

I thought both played quite well, though Giggs looked the sharper of the two imo. Nani was our best attacking player today, but Scholes' had a good effort from distance, quite like Valencia's yesterday, which could well have sneaked in.

Off topic slightly, anyone else notice that the two times they showed Fergie and the one time they showed Scholes in action footage, they were both yelling the f-word at a decision, or else at Owen's push. I thought that was kind of funny, and looked coincidental in terms of filming them then.

I felt we were lacking the usual dominance in midfield we usually have when Carrick and Fletcher are playing, both were good at their passing but it seemed like they were getting a little overrun at times - partly because Giggs was really far ahead of Scholes and did not get back on some occations

It was good when I was saying it before Evans took one too! :-)

Not meaning to discredit your footballing knowledge!

Just thought that in penalty kick, there are many other factors. If Evans had scored (which is not impossible, or unlikely, mind!), there would have been no wondering why he's being chosen, right?!

Not really. Fletcher scored, yet I still question why he was ahead of Valencia.

Before the shootout, I expected the forwards and good ball strikers to take them. That included Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Giggs, Valencia and then Scholes if required (as we know he hasn't taken one since he missed in 05). They were our most technical players on the pitch. Fletcher would be next in line, due to seniority, then probably Evra, then Evans and finally Cathcart. Van der Sar anywhere where he wanted. I was saying this during the last 10 minutes of the game, just to the people around me. It hardly requires hindsight to suggest Valencia would be better at pens than Evans as one has great technique.

I know it was a friendly and it doesn't matter who missed but I'd have expected Valencia to be easily in the first 5.
