Manchester United vs. Birmingham City F.C.

commentator - "berbatov made too much of it"

you mean the part where he got up right after being stamped on and tripped....

Please let us not even go there on the commentators, I think we had the same ones, they were as shocking as ever. I think they got a lot wrong. Berba did have a corner, and they were going on as if Berba was trying to cheat for appealing for the corner during that his take down, the defender hit the ball in the air through Berba's legs. Oh and I muted it after they started saying Foster was nervous after giving a pass to our player instead of hitting it over the top where it is not certain we will retain possession. They were annoying.

The main thing is we got the 3 points, which of course we didn't get in our opening games the last two seasons but I just feel very disappointed we ended the match on only 1-0 after the chances we created. We looked good in the first half but very sluggish in the second half and thank feck for Foster's great save against Chucho (whatever his name is). I though the ref had a bit of a shocker, gave some very soft fouls against us plus we should have had a penalty when Berbatov was trod on.

We normally do have a slow start to the season so 3 points in the bag is the important thing, onwards & upwards and all that.

Knew SAF would bring Nani off after his attempt at goal with outside of right boot, and shame as he wasn't doing to bad down left side. The kid needs a good run of games and support from boss to take next step. Seems the manager hasn't got to much time for him sometimes, and think we lost a bit of width when giggs came on.

He went off because of his shoulder...

What are you on about? He was taken off because he was feeling his dislocated shoulder and not because of the performance on the pitch.

At least it is 3 points, a good starting point I guess but I want to see better from this point on

With better finishing we could have scored 4 first half, then second half would have been a walk in the park. Hope there's not too many more second half performances like today to sit through though.

exactly :)

The 3 points was everything today

tough team to break-down defensively. loaded the box with defenders and played very physical. good thing they really didn't have an offensive threat.

If Berbatov is going to play up top lets hope he can time his runs better.

Was wondering about Park. Naughty Fergie for leaving him off when I put him in my fantasy team... :nono:

they did when Benitez came on, Foster saved us....

Tough game today, but you shouldn't read too much into the first game of the year. United seem to have started slowly the last couple of years and the 1-0 win is better than the draw to open the season last year.

Injuries to the defense is worrying but shows the depth we have when we can get a clean sheet with only Evra out of the first team back four and keeper starting the game. Should be okay against Burnley and Wigan but we are going to need a few of them back for the Arsenal game.

Thought Rooney had a very good game and was the difference between a win and a draw, something he may have to do a lot this year if we are going to win the league again. Berbatov is going to have to play better than he did today if he is going to justify the price we paid for him and I was hoping for more from Valencia. He seemed slow coming inside and some of his passes where not as good as they have been in preseason. Hopefully it was just nerves at his first serious game in front of the home crowd.

But all in all a good start to the season. 3 points in the bag, Liverpool lose and Chelsea struggled.

We were a bit slow at times but were better than we were in our first games in the last couple of years so that's a good start really. Don't want to peak in the first game of the season like Arsenal have, hopefully.
