You people are all mad with your instant threads.

On the bandwagon rolls, I can see quite a weak team going to Turkey with the derby ahead. There's another five chances to get it right in Europe, but only one derby.

Spot on, let's bring City back to earth.

Foster
Brown - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Valencia - Carrick - Anderson - Park
Berbatov - Owen

Hopefully. Leaving Rooney, Fletcher, Nani and Vidic fighting fit for the derby.

We'll draw this one.

But still, we'll qualify easily to last 16.

We just have tough opponents when it comes to play at their stadium.

Should be a decent experience for our players playing in such an environment. I expect us to beat them, even with a slightly weaker team

we could always pretend were playing against newcastle.

I think Ferdinand and Vidic have to play, and I don't think we'll rest too many from the start, but surely all subs will be used;

Foster

O'Shea
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Fletcher
Park

Rooney
Berbatov

SUBS: Kuszczak, Neville, Evans, Anderson, Valencia, Scholes, Owen.

With Rooney, Fletcher and Evra making way at some point I'd have thought.

What I'd like to see:

Foster

Evra
Rio
Vidic
O'Shea

Valencia
Anderson
Fletcher
Nani

Berba
Owen

I'd rest Rooney tbh

We should be able to cope without him, and if not we'll still qualify.

Foster
Neville Ferdinand Brown* Evra
Valencia Carrick Anderson Park
Berbatov Owen
--
Subs: Kuszczak; O'Shea, Vidic; Fletcher, Nani; Rooney, Macheda.

Neville, Ferdinand, Brown*, Valencia, and Owen all need games, and to some extent so do Carrick, Anderson, Park and Berbatov. That's nine very talented players that we can throw into a game against arguably the weakest side in our group (even if it's away, and maybe CSKA aren't as good). That bench is incredibly strong and versatile, with us able to bring on Nani for Park and Rooney up top if we need to go for it. Or alternatively bring on Fletcher to sure up the midfield, or Macheda up front to give him a game if all goes our way in the first hour or so. O'Shea can cover any back four position if someone has to go off (everyone is likely due to currently lacking fitness, and Evra could become tired after the effort he put in against Spurs). Despite Scholes not having to miss this game, I think he might do anyway, but we could see him on the bench. Giggs rolled back the years against Spurs earlier, but I also think he'll be rested and saved for the derby (even if he starts on the bench for that).

I don't think us leaving out the likes of Vidic, Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs, Nani, or Rooney is at all disrespectful to our opponent's, nor does it mean we'd be taking it lightly when you look at the player's who can come in to replace them. I honestly think we'll go there and beat them, even if the side is a little weaker than what I've 'predicted'.

*If Brown isn't fit (I think he got a minor injury while with England) then Fábio on the bench with O'Shea or Vidic starting.

People forgetting Fergie being obsessed with Europe. There's noway anybody's going to get "rested".

Players were rested in our group games last season.

I've not got a clue what kind of team SAF will put out for this one.

Foster
Nev/Brwn-Rio-Vidic-Fabio
Valencia-Carrick-Scholes-Nani
Berba-Owen

Subs:Koosh,Oshea,Evans,Evra,Giggs/Park,Rooney,Anderson,Fletch

away in turkey is never going to be easy .. will be fine with any result ..

---------------------------Foster---------------------------

---Neville-----------Rio----------Vidic--------------Evra---

--Park-------------Carrick-------Anderson----------Nani-----

---------------------Rooney------Berbatov---------------------

Subs: Kuzczak, Brown, O Shea, Welbeck, Owen, Fletcher, Valencia
2nd half: Valencia (for Park), Owen (for Berbatov), Gibson (for Carrick)
Prediction:1-3 victory to the Reds with goals from Anderson, Owen, Vidic

Bit hard for Gibson to come on for Carrick when he's not even on the subs bench, don't you think? :smirk:

Team should be....

GK: Foster

RB: Neville
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Brown
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Fletcher
CM: Carrick
LM: Park

CF: Rooney
CF: Owen

Subs: PIG, O'Shea, Vidic, Giggs, Gibson, Nani, Berbatov

No idea how good this Turkish lot are but a draw would probably be a good result

It's Besiktas, we should be able to beat teams like that comfortably.

People said the same thing about Burnley...and look how that turned out.

They managed to beat Liverpool at home in 07-08, so lets not get too carried away.

We cannot expect to struggle against every single side away from home.

I think the team should be:

Foster

Brown Ferdinand Vidic Fabio

Valencia Carrick Scholes Nani

Berbatov Owen

Subs to come on: Macheda & Park & Welbeck

I think Fletch and Rooney need a rest. I think Evra could be given a rest as well. The three of them have been doing serious work over the last month. I'd like to see Owen playing more. Valencia needs a run in the team as he has been very unimpressive. Ferdinand and Vidic need to play together to get up to speed after a fairly languid performance against Spurs. I think Foster should continue in goal, the more confidence the better. I'd like to see Macheda and Welbeck get a chance. Welbeck needs to start playing if he is to make England's World Cup squad as predicted by Alex Ferguson.

It'll be the full team against City and therefore a weakened one against Besiktas.
